My sister just got dropped on her head again, and we are currently in the ER waiting to see if she has a concussion. The first time she got hurt, her back moved out of the way and wouldn't catch her (and has yet to be liked off the team even though that was nearly 5 months ago) and this time, I have no idea what happened. All I know is, she wants McDonalds. I think she'll be fine.
"Sport; an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment."
This is from the Oxford dictionary, so I don't understand how cheerleading is not considered a sport. If you disagree, take it up with Oxford I guess.
thats because as they said many people don't recognise cheer as a proper sport but hell we probable train just as hard as footballers just as long as basketballers and just as hard as rugby players
i mean the first month when i started i was sore all over every day! and it wasn't because i was unfit it was because we where doing strength and running and more strength and more running. It's not easy lifting a girl in the air and then throwing her. i have bruises to prove that theory!
actually, look up the statistics. gymnastics AND figure skating are the two most dangerous. and cheerleading shouldn't be included since it
s not a real sport. ( i was a cheerleader, and my team won first place at nationals in nyc, so yes, i have a right to talk) I'm so sorry i was a cheerleader. we practiced for hours, and yes, we were DRILLED &we practiced a few days a week, then i became a varisty gymnast i had NOTHING to complain about as a cheerleader you practice all the time for nothing.
@KleeD213 Since you competed, you should know it is. There is a point system there just like any other sport, and we go up against teams from all over and work our buts off 4 to 5 days a week up to 4-5 hours. Maybe your coach didn't work you hard enough. This is coming from a college cheerleader and head competitive coach.
@gymnast71858 apperently 90% of the viewers care about it saying its the most dangerous sport and if you hate cheerleading so much why did you watch this video??
Trust me its a sport i do competive cheerleading and when you throw baskets they go high and the collision is alot greater. We threw a girl who is 10 years old abput 10-15 feet up she fell right on my shoulder and pop out of place. She is 50 pounds.. So yes it is one of the most dangerous and it is a sport. So unless you try it you can hush. Id like to see you "athletes" do half the stuff we do. Cheerleaders are athletes too its a sport. GET OVER IT! K bye
There are very, very few deaths in MMA compared to competitive cheer leading. Not only that, if it is legalized the athletic commission can regulate it and protect a fighter after he or she has been concussed or seriously injured.
@discoandherpes yes, because there's much less people in MMA than cheerleading.
This whole statistic is entirely misleading. It is the most dangerous sport for FEMALES. This does not include male sports such as boxing, football. bull riding, etc.
I'll admit it's a sport, but almost anything can be considered a sport! poker, chess, competitive gaming, etc. doesn't mean it's some big dangerous gamble.
we practice we compete its a sport so shut up. if u arent a cheerleader than u dont know what it takes cause u have never done it therefor have know experinece to back up ur reasoning. any person who has cheered at least one day in there life would not DARE say its not a sport. i was in all star for years and we practiced year round for competitions. no breaks.WE'RE TRAINED TO SMILE THROUGH THE PAIN
@thefunchick11 Research competitive cheerleading. It's a sport. And we don't scream, we yell, we don't just jump around(which isn't as easy as it looks, try a triple toe back tuck), we tumble, we don't just lift eachother up, we save eachother's lives cuz one wrong move could be a paralyzation or death. You should try it or go to a competitive cheer practice to see what it takes. We are scored on perfection. Every little point counts. We go up against other teams. Therefore, we are a sport.
yup they didnt even show the hard things in that video I'm a competitive cheerleader and its way harder than that. BTW if you wanted to know its the 2nd most dangerous sport in the world and it just gets harder.
I practice I'm in the gym 10+ hours a week thats how hard it is. You could become a football player and be great in 3 years, yet I've been a cheerleader for 8 years and Im still only level 4 out of 6 or 7
I think its funny how they dont show anything truly that difficult. If you want to see hard stuff for high school age cheerleading search Cheer Extreme or Maryland Twisters. If you want to see true college cheerleading search HPU large coed or Louisville large coed. In allstar and college cheerleading for any legitimate team your coaches must have NCA/USASF credentials or your cant go to any nationals.
@TaekwondoBoy836 Ever heard or been to a cheerleading competition or have seen a score sheet? We have points that can be gained and taken away. We work hard every day working on strength, endurance, height, and tenchnique. We compete even when in pain, no matter what injury we have, we get on that floor and give it 110% to win $1000 to $3000 or a National Title. In high school, my competitive cheer team was in better shape than the football players.
Actually no I haven't.. I didn't know you actually get scored on Cheerleading.
But despite it being a sport I still wouldn't want to do it its not my style and I would most likely get a bad rep from it. Learn something new everyday!
I am a cheerleader (flyer) and we practice in our school hallways and stunt on the basketball court without mats. Ya know, I never REALLY thought about how dangerous it really is lol but if the girls know what their doing and have the right technique, it's not gonna end bad. If they don't know what their doing then it will. It's really simple... Know what your doing and your fine :)
Well if u are an all star cheerleader then u would have ur own gym and u would have spring floor. Look up all star cheerleading if u dont know what it is
i think they need a proper gym to train in, they were exactly right, gymnasts dont get as many injuries because they use a safer environment and trained, certified coaches.
i'm a gymnast and i'm honestly worried for these girls tumbling on a basketball court with a tiny foam mat! at least a sprung floor!
they may go to a gym once or twice a week for tumble training maybe but thats not enough.
people need to make like a cheerleading- oriented gym rather than the team hiring out a gym for a day
I myself was a cheerleader during High School & you wouldn't know how hard it is until you actually try it! We practice over and over to get better like any other sport and we have more injuries than any sport. I don't see anyone else trying to do stunts while being up in the air, cheer is a sport because we practice & get hurt. I myself had a neck injury because of cheer so it is a sport. Those who dont know how hard it is, try t before you speak!
Someone needs to get their facts straight. According to the federal courts, cheer isn't a sport. Its an activity much like dance and theater. Cheer is an athletic form of communication much like the WWE and stuntmen/women in film and TV. This report is totally incorrect and needs to be recanted and corrected.
A lot of people say cheer isnt a sport. But I am 99% sure if I brought anyone to my gym and had them do what we do they wouldnt do it. Im 13 and on level 5 also level 3 on level 5 I fly but on 3 I base. I have my double and full to full. I practice 4 and a half hours 3 or 4 days a week. Pretty sure its a sport
all these cheer haters need to shut up! what i don't understand is why everyone is always so defensive about cheer and how it CAN'T be a sport. Well, hate to burst your bubble. But, if cheerleading were any easier it would be called football:)
hey haters out there, if you don't like cheer, just shut up.
why can't everyone just concentrate on their own sport? why must everyone humiliate other sports? why can't you guys just give us some respect? fine, if you don't respect cheer, at least just shut up okay.
women are bad at sports.... men are better then women at any sport, we are stronger, have a bigger brain, taller, and men are better at science. are only problem is that we imature. put that aside we are better
Geez, some of the comments on here are so catty. Generally all sports/activities are dangerous. It's just that cheerleading has the biggest opportunities for injury in comparison to gymnastics, volleyball, etc. Yes, I've been in competitive gymnastics before (only level 5, but my sister got much further), and I've split the beam and twisted ankles and all that. But I'd say that being thrown into the air high enough to almost touch a warehouse ceiling (great idea, Coach) is a lot riskier.
@gymnast71858 I do gymnastics and competitive cheerleading. I think cheerleading is harder because it REQUIRES a lot when gymnastics has levels you can be on.
@HawtBombShell what u just said made no sence. and unless ur a nationaly ranked gymnast that works 27 hours a week i dont think u know what true gymnastics is. most chearleaders do basic gymnastics but all they are required to learn is tumbling. the stunts chearleaders do arent even close to being as difficult as gymnastics.
@gymnast71858 Stop talking shit. I have been training for the Olympics since I was 2, so call me up when you get into them, then we'll talk about which is harder.(;
@gymnast71858 I'd LOVE to see you base or fly a rewind, ball up, switch up,bow and arrow, hold your leg up without your hands in a heel stretch, stick a stunt even if your bases barely have your foot because if you fall, that could cost your team a national title and money. Until you've actually DONE a level 5 or 6 stunt, then shut your mouth. We make it look easy. We had a high level gymnast on my open team, and most of the level 6 stunts we were doing, she was scared to do.
The only reasons statistics show so many injuries from cheerleading is because they get dropped on their backs, hips, and asses after being thrown. If you took those out, it surely be wayyy less "dangerous".
@purpleandblack10 Injuries happen to more than just the flyers, bases and backs get knocked out if one thing goes wrong. Injuries also happen during tumbling. Don't state something if you don't know anything. Do you want to trust two to three people to throw you in the air, and if you come down the wrong way cuz you were thrown too far back, for them to risk themselves getting injured over you getting paralyzed?
@MichelleC840CaylaE8 No, injuries happen to bases a lot, backs, and flyers. I've been a flyer for almost 8 years, I got hurt when one thing went wrong, i've never looked down in a stunt. Bases get punched, landed on, which causes back injuries, shoulder injuries, and could break ribs. Backs get knocked out more than anyone. I did in high school, woke up with blood all over my hand, body and didnt stop bleeding til 2am. You're not funny, in fact, you sound stupid cuz flyers never look down. lmao.
thank you ! i love cheer so much ! thanks for saying its a dangerous SPORT!! to all people who dont think that it takes hard work to do this!!!! thanks !! it is a sport!!
@apraylow11 Well 1st Im a level 5 cheerleader and they can do a tuck:) lol thats it when your a level 4 you can do a layout and a level 5 fulls trust me i been cheering and doing gymnastic since i was 4 i know more about cheerleading then you do:) ah Then i wasnt bashing cheerleaders. I love cheerleading lol:) anf Why dont you get your facts straight before you comment back to me:)
@gymnast4lif23 wow a giant? that is one of the most basic things you do in gymnatics.. i use to be a gymnast. and im not jealous of a level 3 cheerleader that can olny do a backhandspring.
@cheerleader2497 first of all a level 3 cheerleader can do more than a back handspring so maybe you should get your facts straight before u start bashing cheerleaders
@gymnast4lif23 first why would i be jealous of a a no life that trolls every single cheerleading vid:) how am i a stalker when you read a comment and you say your a level 3 cheerleader since u was a level 3 cheerleader u can be good at gymnastic like at all and if you where u wouldnt waste ur time on herfe trolling saying cheerleading not a sport
@gymnast4lif23 Causeee you on Every single cheelreading vid you type in and you say i was a level 3 cheerleader level 3 cheerleaders can only do like tucks and crap which is easyyyyyyy:) and like basrly any hard stunts so easyyy
@cheerleader2497 yh well tbh uv been doing cheer and gym for ages and u cant jsut say tht crap which is easy coz when u first learnt i bet it wasnt easy
@gymnast4lif23 have you tryed cheer soo dont speak because the facts are right there they even compared it to gymnastics soo yeah it is more dangrous soo STFU
When there are statistics that SHOW cheerleading is in fact the most dangerous sport, yet, there are people who are stupid enough to comment on here saying that its not.
If you've got your own proof, fair enough. But we all know that people who disagree are just talking shit.
Cheerleading takes determination, sweat and tears. <3
I say that basketball, football, softball, etc. shouldn't be a sport either , it's not in the olympics is it???????? Cheerleading is almost completely gymnastics!!!!!!
@missoreoluvr We aren't sluts lmao and fyi, lose clothing is dangerous in cheerleading because it can get caught in the bases hands, which is why our skirts are short. NO ONE complains about volleyball and their spandex, so don't complain about our uniform when there is an ACTUAL reason for it. And we don't just dance. Thats a very small portion of what we do. Get your facts straight.
@missoreoluvr Uhhh, I think your wrong! People even cheer for the cheerleaders! Go to a cheer competition! hmmm....Are those fans yelling to theirselves??
Cheerleading isn't a sport and your grammar is terrible. Cheerleaders just cheer on a sport, they are not the sport themselves. Nobody is cheering for the cheerleaders. And we can say whatever we want anywhere we want so don't try to tell us we can't.
@missoreoluvr Go to a cheer competition, we have more fans than a football team ;) You might be referring to the spirit team, in that state, theyre not a sport. Enter competitive cheerleading, and they are. Look it up. Top Gun Level 5 then talk crap that you don't know about.
how is cheerleading a sport? they're there to cheer on real sports teams. is it necessary to throw a person in the air just to show some team spirits?
@Kritickos They compete to dumbass they are athletes just like dummies fighting over a ball (yes im talking about football). Cheerleading is a sport and life. Have you ever heard of allstar cheerleading.
People on here saying cheerleading isn't a sport really needs to keep their mouth shut until they get out there and do it. Do you know how many times I've seen somebody land on their face trying to entertain people like you? I go to practice 5 times a week and people have passed out before. Cheerleading requires you to push yourself to the limit. If you are devoted to cheer and do everything right it's not as hard but it's still VERY hard. But if you don't, you in for a hell of ride.
uncertified coaches?! all coaches have to have had experience as a cheerleader and most all star coaches are certified through the USASF ( U.S. ALL. STAR. FERDERATION) or the NCA (NATIONAL CHEERLEADING ASSOCIATION) all of my coaches are certified by one or both of the organazitions.&un proper technique? thats one of the reasons we have coaches so they teach us technique so we dont injure ourselfs. injuries are unpredictable and 50% unpreventable in cheerleading. 9 years i would never give it up
It is a sport I mean it is super hard I've fell on my tummy wen I did 22backflips in a row and my head touched my feet and it poped like crazy it is dangerous at least I was on a trampoline..i u don't think it is a sport try throwing girls 50 feet in the air and catching them.. It is hard to stunt in rain.. Omg it's a sport
IT'S NOT A SPORT. ITS A PERFORMANCE BASED ENTERTAINMENT REQUIRING ATHLETIC ABILITY. If cheerleading is a sport, the the WWE is real wrestling...get a life...get a grip...get your costumes right and entertain me.
@Droolbaby reallly you wanna tell me this isnt a sport? i am a competitive all star cheerleader and its alot of hard work, why dont you go to a all star practice and do this yourself.
@NemoLover12 Because there is no single oversight commitee to regulate judging, scoring and competition rules and requirements. Unlike the NHL, MLB, NFL,NASCAR,etc..cheer is a series of groups with their own agendas and ideas of how judging and routines are done. Therefore, unlike REAL sports, cheer is a dance performance and no longer a sport. You want that to change, get a single oversight committee and create objective, judgable rules. Worked for the Olympics, UFC and the other REAL sports
@Droolbaby uhm actaully the USASF ( UNITED STATES ALL STAR FREDERATION) makes all the rules and regulations for competitive cheer leading, this is a REAL sport!
@NemoLover12 Then explain to me how high school, college, Varsity and Allstar cheer ALL have various rules and regulations to determine scoring and judging? With football...rules are across the board from pee-wee all the way through the pros...why doesn't cheer have the same set up? Because it's not set up as a real sport and is purely performance and dance. You can't regulate dance but you can regulate sports.
@Droolbaby If we didn't have rules and regulations with the 6 year olds that begin all star cheerleading, they would be allowed to do back tuck baskets, rewinds, and all the stunts college cheerleaders are allowed to do. Which could kill a 6 year old flyer if her 6 year old bases don't catch her. Thats why.
@Droolbaby You're the dumbest person on here.....you should do some serious research before daring to comment back on here. We're not there to entertain, cuz if that was the case, every sport would be a performance base entertainment requiring athletic ability, cuz it entertains the crowd. You obviously hate cheerleaders,if you hate them SO much, why are you watching these videos? lmao you're pathetic.
As a base, I have broke my wrist twice, sprained my wrist three times, broke five fingers, and had one broken leg. As a tumbler I have almost broke my neck, and fell on my back neck and head over and over... So everyone that says cheers not a sport.. They are WRONG!
in cheerleading i got kicked in the head, the neck, i almost broke my neck, i feel on my back and i could barely breath for at least 5 minutes..........and some people have the nereves to say that cheerleading is not a sport..........ya right!!!!!!
to all the haterz who think cheerleading isnt a sport and just saying ba ba blacksheep cheerleading is considered the most extreme death defying hardest and dangerous sport in the world! i almost came close to death of cheering
injury does not define a sport. ESPECIALLY one where 90% of the injuries are avoidable. Rules are part of the def. Check out the existing stunt SPORT. it has consitent rules WORLD WIDE. Each country only has ONE national Champion. There is only ONE world champion. Skills are more complex, done higher in the air, takes twice as much training as cheer yet the injury rate is 300% less than cheer. Search it .. "Sports Acrobatics" AKA "Acrobatic Gymnastics" Acro Gym is NOT televised!!!
I used to figure skate (got hurt many times even hitting my head lol)
and I am cheering now! :D The nice thing is if I fall I fall on a mat....
But both are so dangerous but when I cheer I don’t care I just love it so much! :)
and for the people that say it is not a sport I want to say ok come to the gym with me and do a simple round off back hand spring and add a few jumps and lets see how ya do ;) ..... Ya that is not to easy huh! Chess is a sport so is Cheer!! Happy Cheering :)
...and then again, the stats might be much lower if the young women were eating right. in most sports (football, hockey, basketball, etc) to gain some weight and build a solid workhorse body is encouraged but i dont see any linebackers being thrown in the air here.
@noimchucknorris Would you like to throw a linebacker? and if you EVER see college cheerleaders like UCF, their girls are short but are HUGE, they have some serious biceps and leg muscle to do what they do.
I'm a cheerleader, volleyball player, long distance, track runner as well, lift weights, workout, get thrown high in the air with a slim chance if me not being caught......poor you;'( suck it up
@metsrule107 wow. You poor thing. You run, workout, and that's it?? Cheerleaders do that WHILE also lifting, flipping, jumping, (sometimes breaking), still smiling their as* off. And put up a video of u lifting an 100 pound or more girl up in the air, looking DECENT, and catch her without killing her. Then get back to me:)
@ForeverBimbo06 So you're saying that you do all of those things simultaneously? Highly unlikely. I have seen cheerleaders practice and they don't run, work out, lift, jump, and flip people all at the same time.
Cheerleading is a joke. I'm a distance runner. Come do one of my hard workouts I do multiple times a week. I guarantee all of you girls will be crying by the end of it.
@metsrule107 Cheerleading is a joke? I'm a cheerleader and a long distance runner too, yes long distance running work outs are damn right hard but have you ever tried to throw someone 5 metres in the air or lift someone only with one other person helping you. Oh and when you say All of you girls, there are boys in it too.
@metsrule107 and i will guarantee that you will cry your eyes out, when you have to do 20 pushups, basket tosses, libs, lift a 100 pounded girl and still smile as hell <3
@Mokeygirls Oh boy! 20 pushups?! Say it ain't so! Too bad I can do about 70 pushups in a minute because guess what? I actually have to work out other parts of my body too other than running. I guarantee you I can lift a hundred pound girl. I toss my 120 pound brother around all the time.
@metsrule107 We had to do 200 push ups in competitive cheer, hand stand push ups, use weights, work out our legs, abs, shoulders, back, calves, ankles. So shut up. Can you toss your brother and hold him up above your head without help or without him falling and hold him there for as along as you possibly can? thats a cheerleading drill. Have fun with that ;)
@metsrule107 Neither Distance running nor Cheerleading are jokes and I respect everybody who tries their best, does the best they can do, and practices hard (even if they are in pain, tired, the likes) and don't think they are superior to others. Cheerleading and Distance running are completely two different things that should not be compared since they are hardly similar. They take different strengths to do. -_-
Competitive cheerleading is a lot different then sideline cheer, I have done both. In competitive cheer we have coaches who are all certified by the USASF which gives them the right to coach. As for school/rec cheer they hire, moms, parents who have had experience back in the day and don't really know what's going on now. With that being said COMPETITIVE CHEER is a sport and school cheer some what a sport!
the only reason statistics say cheerleaders get hurt more than gymnasts is because cheerleaders cry about and go to the hospital like a little baby gymnasts get the fuck over it unless and arm or leg is about to fall off or they're internally bleading!!!!
the only reason cheerleaders get hurt more than gymnasts is because cheerleaders cry about and go to the hospital like a little baby gymnasts get the fuck over it unless and arm or leg is about to fall off or they're internally bleading!!!!
@goofy12310 are u a cheerleader..? we dont cry like little baby CHEERLEADERS LIKE MYSELF AND AND MY TEAM AND ANY OTHER REALL CHEERLEADERS ARE ACTORS ALWAYS READY TO GO!!! ONCE WE STEP FOOT ON THAT FLOOR NO TEARS ITS ALWAYS SMILES ON MY TEAM U REALLY NEED TO RETHINK WHAT U SAID!
@goofy12310 okay, 1: before you try to diss on cheerleaders, learn how to spell. 2: you've never even tried what cheerleaders actually do. if you got hurt like i have from cheerleading, you would know that cheerleaders ARE NOT 'cry babies'. most cheer accidents are sprains, fractures, and breaks. go to a competiton cheer practice for a couple of days. fall a couple of times. do stunts and tumbing. work your ass off like us. when i see you crying in the hospital cause a sprain, i'll just laugh.
@goofy12310 I was dropped on my head, wasn't breathing, almost was paralyzed, and had a headache for two weaks and couldnt do anything. I didn't cry once or go to the hospital. I took some medicine and got back into it. I have no idea what you're talking about. I've seen girls break their arm in a routine, and they still kept going, not crying either. We get the fuck over it too ;)
Omg cheerleading isn't a sport and gymnast dnt get hurt as much because there actually smart unlike cheerleaders who go on hard mats and get hurt!!! Plus gymnastics is way harder and the hardest sport
Sorry, but I must say. Cheerleading can be a sport. But to me, a sport is something every1 can see and witness as winners and losers. If there must be judges in order to distinguish the winners from the losers, then it isnt a sport. For example, football and basketball has an easy scoring system which anybody can follow and compute. Dont get me wrong; I have the most respect for cheerleaders to do what they do, since I follow them to worlds every year on youtube
one other thought, Cheer COULD be a Sport. Like this judge recently ruled it is NOT YET a sport. This has NOTHING to do with how difficult it is. Issue is inconsistent rules between organizations & no depth in line of winners to losers per event. Events are money making machines w/event focus to make money; NOT sportiveness. In big money making SPORTS they try to bend a sport to make it more money making.... they dont redesign the activity like Varsity Corp. did & then call it sport.
@baddyamaguchi "yu must not really know cheerleading. we're not speakin on sideline cheerleading. REAL COMPETITIVE CHEER.. DIFFERENT LEVELS & DIFFERENT RULES & REG..S per LEVEL." Yes I know competitive cheer. Each competition has rules, each ones rules are different. Rules main objective is to create as many winners as possible. The event is a BIG BUSINESS & they make more money if everyone goes away feeling all sweet and gooy inside. Diff. rules per org= NOT SPORT. No real loosrs=NOT SPORT
People have cheerleading all wrong. Don't think cheerleaders on a football team count. I'm talking competitive cheerleading. We lift actual people (who really need to lay of the potatoe chips) , flip like mad and our coaches scream at us like crazy. Some people can't even do a cartwheel and they're saying cheerleading isn't a sport. I'm not trying to offend anyone or start an arguement.

Something does NOT become something else just cause you want it too! Sorry. Cheer as it is done in the USA is NOT a sport. It is an Athletic Entertainment Art activity. The performers are ATHLETIC no doubt. Sport has CONSISTENT logical comeptitive rules & org. Cheer does not. It a money grab biz.
Injury in cheer; NOT a measure of difficulty. It's a measure OF BAD COACHING, BAD SYSTEM of developing cheer skills. Do a search of Acrobatic Gymnastics. BIGGER stunts... 100% lower injury rate
@coachgeo yu must not really know cheerleading. we're not speakin on sideline cheerleading. REAL COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS & DIFFERENT RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR EACH LEVEL.
so for yu to say its not consistent yu clearly know nothing about what any real cheerleader is speaking on.
@baddyamaguchi - Don't get me wrong.... it is very difficult. So is Ballet, So is Circus. They are not sports though. They ARE AMAZING and should be celebrated for what they are. They should be celebrated as much as our the ball sports IMHO. Beautiful Human Art and that is a wonderful thing.
Compare ACROBATIC Gymnastics (NOT Artistic Gymnastics) to Cheer both in Athleticism, athlete technique, coaching science, and international rule standards and the facts will speak for themselves.
@gymnast857 Although you aren't yelling, you are "looking down at her" for getting angry over such a comment. I think both gymnastics and cheerleading are rather difficult but in different ways due to the fact that they don't do the same things. However, gymnastics is not like cheerleading in the sense that they aren't constantly being put down, having loads of stereotypes applied to them, and being insulted in many different ways so I think her reaction is slightly reasonable.
Cheerleaders just doesn't seem to realize that no amount of training, athleticism and stunts will be sufficent to be sactionated sport without their competition and origination mess is being sorted out.Maybe cheerleaders is so fanatical in their sport claims because they are a bit ashamed over what they are and what they do? Maybe they even realize that the closest they will come for many years to being in a sport is by waiving with their pom poms, and yelling "GO TEAM"?
So much sexism here rofl

@gymgurl1995
Well what you think is wrong because the FACT is cheer IS the most dangerous because it is the most competitive and best sport.:)
bestbuds4ever1 3 weeks ago
Trust me its a sport i do competive cheerleading and when you throw baskets they go high and the collision is alot greater. We threw a girl who is 10 years old abput 10-15 feet up she fell right on my shoulder and pop out of place. She is 50 pounds.. So yes it is one of the most dangerous and it is a sport. So unless you try it you can hush. Id like to see you "athletes" do half the stuff we do. Cheerleaders are athletes too its a sport. GET OVER IT! K bye
backflip123123 3 weeks ago
I believe that boxing/mma would be much more dangerous, since the actual objective is to injure the other person....
BlindBusDrivr 3 weeks ago
@BlindBusDrivr
That's not true though.
There are very, very few deaths in MMA compared to competitive cheer leading. Not only that, if it is legalized the athletic commission can regulate it and protect a fighter after he or she has been concussed or seriously injured.
discoandherpes 2 weeks ago
@discoandherpes yes, because there's much less people in MMA than cheerleading.
This whole statistic is entirely misleading. It is the most dangerous sport for FEMALES. This does not include male sports such as boxing, football. bull riding, etc.
I'll admit it's a sport, but almost anything can be considered a sport! poker, chess, competitive gaming, etc. doesn't mean it's some big dangerous gamble.
BlindBusDrivr 2 weeks ago
@BlindBusDrivr
I don't know if that is necessarily true. There are a ton of fighters in MMA alone just in the major promotions, not alone the regional shows.
discoandherpes 2 weeks ago
I would have to disagree. I personally think gymnastics is the most dangerous sport for women.
gymgurl1995 4 weeks ago
we practice we compete its a sport so shut up. if u arent a cheerleader than u dont know what it takes cause u have never done it therefor have know experinece to back up ur reasoning. any person who has cheered at least one day in there life would not DARE say its not a sport. i was in all star for years and we practiced year round for competitions. no breaks.WE'RE TRAINED TO SMILE THROUGH THE PAIN

I don't even see cheer leading as a sport just some girls screaming and lifting each other up..
thefunchick11 1 month ago
@thefunchick11 cheerleading is totally a sport. Cheerleaders are athlettes just like dancers and gymnasts
idinakristinwicked 1 month ago
@thefunchick11 Research competitive cheerleading. It's a sport. And we don't scream, we yell, we don't just jump around(which isn't as easy as it looks, try a triple toe back tuck), we tumble, we don't just lift eachother up, we save eachother's lives cuz one wrong move could be a paralyzation or death. You should try it or go to a competitive cheer practice to see what it takes. We are scored on perfection. Every little point counts. We go up against other teams. Therefore, we are a sport.
PHCCcheerleading 3 days ago
yup they didnt even show the hard things in that video I'm a competitive cheerleader and its way harder than that. BTW if you wanted to know its the 2nd most dangerous sport in the world and it just gets harder.
I practice I'm in the gym 10+ hours a week thats how hard it is. You could become a football player and be great in 3 years, yet I've been a cheerleader for 8 years and Im still only level 4 out of 6 or 7
jayhawk181998 1 month ago 2

PHCCcheerleading 3 days ago
@PHCCcheerleading
Actually no I haven't.. I didn't know you actually get scored on Cheerleading.
But despite it being a sport I still wouldn't want to do it its not my style and I would most likely get a bad rep from it. Learn something new everyday!
TaekwondoBoy836 1 day ago
I am a cheerleader (flyer) and we practice in our school hallways and stunt on the basketball court without mats. Ya know, I never REALLY thought about how dangerous it really is lol but if the girls know what their doing and have the right technique, it's not gonna end bad. If they don't know what their doing then it will. It's really simple... Know what your doing and your fine :)
swimmer3971 1 month ago
Well if u are an all star cheerleader then u would have ur own gym and u would have spring floor. Look up all star cheerleading if u dont know what it is
Keelyschefflertv 1 month ago
i think they need a proper gym to train in, they were exactly right, gymnasts dont get as many injuries because they use a safer environment and trained, certified coaches.
i'm a gymnast and i'm honestly worried for these girls tumbling on a basketball court with a tiny foam mat! at least a sprung floor!
they may go to a gym once or twice a week for tumble training maybe but thats not enough.
people need to make like a cheerleading- oriented gym rather than the team hiring out a gym for a day
100deidara001 1 month ago
I myself was a cheerleader during High School & you wouldn't know how hard it is until you actually try it! We practice over and over to get better like any other sport and we have more injuries than any sport. I don't see anyone else trying to do stunts while being up in the air, cheer is a sport because we practice & get hurt. I myself had a neck injury because of cheer so it is a sport. Those who dont know how hard it is, try t before you speak!
haidee49 1 month ago
Someone needs to get their facts straight. According to the federal courts, cheer isn't a sport. Its an activity much like dance and theater. Cheer is an athletic form of communication much like the WWE and stuntmen/women in film and TV. This report is totally incorrect and needs to be recanted and corrected.
Droolbaby 2 months ago
A lot of people say cheer isnt a sport. But I am 99% sure if I brought anyone to my gym and had them do what we do they wouldnt do it. Im 13 and on level 5 also level 3 on level 5 I fly but on 3 I base. I have my double and full to full. I practice 4 and a half hours 3 or 4 days a week. Pretty sure its a sport

TRATAirsoft 3 months ago
Geez, some of the comments on here are so catty. Generally all sports/activities are dangerous. It's just that cheerleading has the biggest opportunities for injury in comparison to gymnastics, volleyball, etc. Yes, I've been in competitive gymnastics before (only level 5, but my sister got much further), and I've split the beam and twisted ankles and all that. But I'd say that being thrown into the air high enough to almost touch a warehouse ceiling (great idea, Coach) is a lot riskier.
xkehaulanix 3 months ago
gymnastics is more painful. nobody cares what these reporters say
gymnast71858 4 months ago
@gymnast71858 I do gymnastics and competitive cheerleading. I think cheerleading is harder because it REQUIRES a lot when gymnastics has levels you can be on.
HawtBombShell 4 months ago
@HawtBombShell what u just said made no sence. and unless ur a nationaly ranked gymnast that works 27 hours a week i dont think u know what true gymnastics is. most chearleaders do basic gymnastics but all they are required to learn is tumbling. the stunts chearleaders do arent even close to being as difficult as gymnastics.
gymnast71858 3 months ago
@gymnast71858 Stop talking shit. I have been training for the Olympics since I was 2, so call me up when you get into them, then we'll talk about which is harder.(;
HawtBombShell 3 months ago
@gymnast71858 I'd LOVE to see you base or fly a rewind, ball up, switch up,bow and arrow, hold your leg up without your hands in a heel stretch, stick a stunt even if your bases barely have your foot because if you fall, that could cost your team a national title and money. Until you've actually DONE a level 5 or 6 stunt, then shut your mouth. We make it look easy. We had a high level gymnast on my open team, and most of the level 6 stunts we were doing, she was scared to do.
PHCCcheerleading 3 days ago
gymnastics is more painful
gymnast71858 4 months ago
The only reasons statistics show so many injuries from cheerleading is because they get dropped on their backs, hips, and asses after being thrown. If you took those out, it surely be wayyy less "dangerous".
purpleandblack10 4 months ago
@purpleandblack10 Injuries happen to more than just the flyers, bases and backs get knocked out if one thing goes wrong. Injuries also happen during tumbling. Don't state something if you don't know anything. Do you want to trust two to three people to throw you in the air, and if you come down the wrong way cuz you were thrown too far back, for them to risk themselves getting injured over you getting paralyzed?

MichelleC840CaylaE8 5 months ago
@MichelleC840CaylaE8 No, injuries happen to bases a lot, backs, and flyers. I've been a flyer for almost 8 years, I got hurt when one thing went wrong, i've never looked down in a stunt. Bases get punched, landed on, which causes back injuries, shoulder injuries, and could break ribs. Backs get knocked out more than anyone. I did in high school, woke up with blood all over my hand, body and didnt stop bleeding til 2am. You're not funny, in fact, you sound stupid cuz flyers never look down. lmao.

missoreoluvr 6 months ago
@missoreoluvr We aren't sluts lmao and fyi, lose clothing is dangerous in cheerleading because it can get caught in the bases hands, which is why our skirts are short. NO ONE complains about volleyball and their spandex, so don't complain about our uniform when there is an ACTUAL reason for it. And we don't just dance. Thats a very small portion of what we do.
MadisonJordan14 7 months ago
uncertified coaches?! all coaches have to have had experience as a cheerleader and most all star coaches are certified through the USASF ( U.S. ALL.

It is hard to stunt in rain.. Omg it's a sport
boring941wont 7 months ago
IT'S NOT A SPORT. ITS A PERFORMANCE BASED ENTERTAINMENT REQUIRING ATHLETIC ABILITY. If cheerleading is a sport, the the WWE is real wrestling...get a life...get a grip...get your costumes right and entertain me.
Droolbaby 7 months ago
@Droolbaby reallly you wanna tell me this isnt a sport? i am a competitive all star cheerleader and its alot of hard work, why dont you go to a all star practice and do this yourself.
NemoLover12 7 months ago
@NemoLover12 Because there is no single oversight commitee to regulate judging, scoring and competition rules and requirements. Unlike the NHL, MLB, NFL,NASCAR,etc..cheer is a series of groups with their own agendas and ideas of how judging and routines are done. Therefore, unlike REAL sports, cheer is a dance performance and no longer a sport. You want that to change, get a single oversight committee and create objective, judgable rules. Worked for the Olympics, UFC and the other REAL sports
Droolbaby 7 months ago
@Droolbaby uhm actaully the USASF ( UNITED STATES ALL STAR FREDERATION) makes all the rules and regulations for competitive cheer leading, this is a REAL sport!
NemoLover12 7 months ago
@NemoLover12 Then explain to me how high school, college, Varsity and Allstar cheer ALL have various rules and regulations to determine scoring and judging? With football...rules are across the board from pee-wee all the way through the pros...why doesn't cheer have the same set up? Because it's not set up as a real sport and is purely performance and dance. You can't regulate dance but you can regulate sports.
Droolbaby 7 months ago
@Droolbaby If we didn't have rules and regulations with the 6 year olds that begin all star cheerleading, they would be allowed to do back tuck baskets, rewinds, and all the stunts college cheerleaders are allowed to do. Which could kill a 6 year old flyer if her 6 year old bases don't catch her. Thats why.
PHCCcheerleading 3 days ago
@Droolbaby It's funny that we're a "dance performance" when 10 seconds of our routine is dance....and the rest of it is busting our asses.

@Droolbaby You're the dumbest person on here.....you should do some serious research before daring to comment back on here. injury does not define a sport.

SuperCheermaniac 1 year ago

I'm not surprised by those statistics at all! Cheerleading is dangerous, especially if you're doing competitions!

Omg cheerleading isn't a sport and gymnast dnt get hurt as much because there actually smart unlike cheerleaders who go on hard mats and get hurt!!! Plus gymnastics is way harder and the hardest sport
olivermilford1 1 year ago
@olivermilford1 You're just depressed because you're not talented enough to be a cheerleader. You probably couldn't handle it.

Dont get me wrong; I have the most respect for cheerleaders to do what they do, since I follow them to worlds every year on youtube

...which is why you should use martial arts as a foundation for your training!

one other thought, Cheer COULD be a Sport.

I'd say cheerleading is a hobby.. not even a sport ^_^

100% lower injury rate
coachgeo 1 year ago
@coachgeo yu must not really know cheerleading. we're not speakin on sideline cheerleading. REAL COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING WITH DIFFERENT LEVELS & DIFFERENT RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR EACH LEVEL.
so for yu to say its not consistent yu clearly know nothing about what any real cheerleader is speaking on.
those sideline motions is all fun & games.
competitive cheerleading is the real thing.

@Cheer12324 how about you stop yelling at everyone and just let everyone express their opinion thats what comment boxes are for (;
gymnast857 1 year ago
@gymnast857 Although you aren't yelling, you are "looking down at her" for getting angry over such a comment. I think both gymnastics and cheerleading are rather difficult but in different ways due to the fact that they don't do the same things. However, gymnastics is not like cheerleading in the sense that they aren't constantly being put down, having loads of stereotypes applied to them, and being insulted in many different ways so I think her reaction is slightly reasonable.

@Cheer12324
