wheat12341...the time is now man....this is the greatest band of all time and it is a travesty the laws are not in the rock and roll hall... I may drive my wife crazy, but I play ONLY outlaws in my automobile ....got every byte of music (including Henry Paul Band..I consider them Outlaws music...) ever written (someone send me a link to Freddie Salem's band PLEASE...) by them, I THINK!... 10 live concerts, every one of them indelibly etched in my conscience...
I saw this band four times in different forms. The best was 1976 but Hughie was always an Outlaw even when he was playing for Skynrd. I always thought that this song was underrated and that the Outlaws belong in th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Allthough being a outlawsfan from the beginning, i never heard this version before. It once again shows Hughie had a voice polished by wisky and desertsand. Don't laugh, i mean it positivily!
G R I T S is one of the greatest Southern Rock albums of all time, and I love this song!!! If you can, listen to "White Horses", "Angels Hide", Devil's Road", and "Wishing Wells"...
@HDangerism dont follow your 'GRITS' the one i had was called 'in the eye of the storm' the only track that wasnt excellent (imo) was the costello cover
no offense to elvis intended just didnt seem to fit
the rest of it is top notch all excellent cuts ballads and rockers both
@tuneit2 Hughie was the Outlaws. When billy died it was hard but the fire burned bright cause of hughie. When his flame was extinguished in '07 that was the END for the Outlaws. Really sux cause I wanted to take my kids to one of his shows.

A very moving song. Abject sadness and pain illustrated through heartbreaking lyrics and haunting guitar.

Just absolutely beautiful.. This haunting melody is done so perfectly.. such sadness, such hopelessness.. so profoundly expressed here......

Great piece. I'll never understand why Phil Colins was given the rights to make it a crap.

@maralexdim I am so with you. First time I heard the Colins version I wanted to know who was killing the song and why were they doing so.

echo your words -- word for word.
hard to choose a favorite 'laws tune, but this one definitely makes the short list.
the guitar army taking a break from the battle to sing a love letter back home.
