The Elite rolled into the wall, and for some reason some of the elite went through the wall,thus when the plasma grenade exploded, it exploded on the other side of the wall. The only weird thing I see is why the elite did not get hurt one bit by the explosion. ( P.S. This is long. :/ )

Its because the roll animation pushed the sticky on the other side of the wall where it detonated at the right time.  And because it was on the other side of the wall, it didn't kill him.
