I had the U.S. versions of both of these when I was a kid. Cool toys, but they were easily broken. I can't remember what they were called, but I do remember the bug thing that formed the torso and arms of the one robot was named "Gorp," which, as my father explained to me at the age of nine, was someone who farts in the bathtub and bites the bubbles.
Holy crap! I actually had one of those vehicle-linkup-to-robot toys. I had no idea what it was thinking it was some kind of Voltron knockoff. Thanks for sharing this.
Just got this guy delivered today in original packaging, the toy itselff is no different from the original Japanese version, but here in the u.k it was renamed Alphatron, the line was called convertors, by grandstand and we didnt have all the cool little pilots with it :)
wow that wacked out thing is that i had that voltron knock off as a kid my aunt got it for me i remember hating it becuz it was not the real voltron i wish i had that thing now though....lol

Huhu... I didn't know Guts Blocker was one of those toys where transformers originated...
I lost it in Cavite and didn't care about it before... I was 6 or 7 when I had that thing... and now... gone...

Gats Blocker (or Guts Blocker) is also known as "Multiforce 14" in the USA.

I have Gats Blocker and his arms don't move like that. The only bend at the elbow. But he is still badass.
