Thats the good thing about winter tyres, they are designed for all kinds of winter weather ( ice/snow/rain/slush/frost etc) and not just for snow and ice, between mid November and early March in the UK the average temperature for going to work and coming home is below 7oC which is what winter tyres were designed for. Check out Continental Conti-winter-contact TS800 tyres , excellent winter tyre highly recommended.

I have a 01' bmw 520i like that guy at 5.23 and i live up a hill! Maybe i should buy winter tyres this year.

@iceonthemoon I have a spare set of wheels for my Volvo & I've been thinking about getting some winter tyres or snow chains. Knowing my luck I'll buy some & then it won't snow for about 10 years!

@cometogetherband Well yeah that's the thing, they are a big expense for something that you may not need after all. Atm my car has some budget brand tyres that only have about 10-15% tred left, will replace them with some good quality all seasons before the snow is expected just to be on the safe side.

Hi,

Chains are good but need to take them off when you get onto tarmac , take a look at buying a set ( 4 , not just the 2 driving wheels ) of winter/snow rubber , good makes are Vredstein , Continental or Nokian . If winters are going to be like this for the future it beggers belief that winter rubber is not made a requirment between Early/Mid November to Early March here in the UK. These tyres are designed to act under 7 degrees C.

What kinda car are you driving?

@MarkMck1994 I was in a Volvo C70. I normally use a 940 but it's rear wheel drive & I don't think I would have made it home if I had been in that.
