Will it tour in the U.S.A.? (Glenn Slater wrote the lyrics for TANGLED, and he did a great job with that film, plus I just listened to Beneath A Moonless Sky twice, and it is beautiful).
Why ALW didn't team up wiv Charles Hart but Glenn Slayter, Charles's lyrics and arrangement is alot better. Andrew should have choose him, I reli don't like most of the lyrics in Love Never Dies:/ It could have been a million times better if Charles Hart was in it in the first place:( I am sorry but I think even I can come up with lyrics like that too, just saying...
I thought Phantom one was amazing and the movie!! I went to see Love never dies in London and it was an amazing continuation of the the story! I do hope that the decision is made to turn it into a movie and that the original characters would return for it. And in the case of Gerard Butler, I do not think that anyone else could have played the phantom, he was amazing!! Well done Andrew for the success of both Phantoms at the Theatre!!
Gerard Butler came in for much criticism and would not be surprising if he refuses to take part in the continue of the film. But we very much hope that he will find the strength and courage to participate in the sequel. It will be great, because his Phantom gives no rest to women's hearts all over the world
This plot reminds me of the book The Phantom of Manhatten. The story takes place in the same place the only diffrence that I cant tell so far is that Mademe Giry goes with Eric to America. As for the part about the boy in the book the boy is the Phantoms because Raoul is hurt durring the battle with the Phantom and can't have children. Chirstine refueses to admit that he is Eric's child but he knows that he is. however, the story ends unfairly! to find out why read the book.
This was based on the book The Phamtom of Manhatten. The Book was a good story however, it has an awful ending. I wonder, does this play end the same way? If so I will not be happy!
I'm really excited about this. A lot of people seem to be very critical of it, but I think a lot of it makes sense. "She never loved the Phantom, so she wouldn't have his child." Whether or not she loved him, it's very clear that under any circumstances she lusted over him. The music is absolutely wonderful, and the story is exciting. I can't wait to see it.
GOD I wish I could say I like this, because I admire ALW but I really don't... I read the book, saw the play and the movie and I think this sequel changes a LOT of things that were not meant to happen... I'm sure that as a production is amazing but, I think It is streaching the plot. Besides the Cristine in the book never loved the phantom that was ad in the original play so her having he's child is a little bit to much.
I also think Meg Giry is the perfect killer for Christine. They were not as close as some imagined. In the original book, right at the begininng when the count is praising Christine, Meg's first words about Christine are 'Impossible! Six months ago she sang like a carrion crow!'
Many people say that the characters have completely changed, but one has to remember this is set 10 years after. If one reads the original book by Gaston Leroux, as well as his dark side, the phantom is infact a genius, ventriloquist, inventor and world traveller, and this side of him is really brought out in LND which portrays him as a much more powerful man (as in the book) than POTO stage performance ever did.
I love the music. I have only one question. Why didn't Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber cast the original Phantom: Micheal Crawford and the original Christaine: Sarah Brightman. It would be interesting and good to hear them sing together once more.
i listen to love never die's music and phantom of the opera and there completey diffrent characters the phantom was uncared for and a killer really and raoul was sauve and caring but now hes a drunk i love the story though and always wanted christine to be with the phantom
Whoever told him that the plot characters and/or character development in POTO were in any way inferior to those in LND has neither seen the POTO play nor read the novel in the first place. It is especially tragic if he's thought that up himself. While setting it in Coney Island gives it potential, the very idea that Christine would, in light of the POTO ending, have not seen who Mr. Y was, or that she has not run in the opposite direction, is unbelievable plot-wise.
This is a magnificent soundtrack, and shows the mature Lloyd Webber. The Phantom is much more accessible and human than the in the first Phantom. No hits? Till I hear you sing must be the best thing ALW has written to date. The plot is cleverly scripted.
But please if there is a film, by all means use the originals, but please VOICE OVER Gerard Butler with Anthony Warlow!!!
Glad ALW took his time to get this show going! It was worth the wait and all those re-writes! Because the show is AMAZING! Would rate it as one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Would love to hear Sarah Brightman sing "Love Never Dies" Any chance of sorting it Andrew?
It would be certainly interesting, as long as she's not asked to sing in LND itself. I think that would be plain stupid, because the plot can in no way compete with that of POTO (in my opinion at least), nor will any comparison brought on by the casting of S.B. and/or M.C. be favorable to LND. There is no moment where one wonders who Christine will choose.
Hat off to Lloyd Webber!! One for raising the bar for himself and doing a Phantom sequel in 2010, another for re-cycling an old song (the heart is slow to learn) and coming up with one of the greatest musical songs ever.
i really hope they make a movie of this using the same cast that they had in the first one,, with Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum......i would buy the DVD as soon as it came out if they did xxxxx

Webber said that this story could stand on it's own two feet. So why is it being played up as a sequel? Just change the names and some the situations around and then you really have a story that stands alone. The only way this sequel could work is if it's so bad, it's good.
omg!!!! I sooo cant wait to c this!! it comes out were i live in one year but still i can wait for it!!! im obbssesed with 'Beauty underneath' but I LOVE THE SITE!!!! I LOVE THE PLAY!!!!!!! I LOVE THE PHANTOM!!!
I love that Phantom is going to have a sequel, like the book it's based on (both the original and sequel books). Yet I find it funny that ALW would say that there has never been a musical that had it's full soundtrack done with the Original London cast... because the original POTO soundtrack was with the original London cast!
If Andrew had slagged off the original to promote the sequel I would have rated this video down. As it is he didnt & I appreciate that. Im glad hes proud of the musical but personally I find it very lack lustre. I would say that his compositions are one of the better aspects of the show that isnt saying much because I find the lyrics and plot horrible and would need severe re-working in order to be anything more than a farce. I am however eagerly awaiting Wizard of Oz! Cannot wait for that!
oh who cares?? its a masterpeice!!! you have to listen to them to find the meaning. the wizard of oz is babyish. if you like more GROWN up stuff like me and LOTS OF PPL WHO CARE then this is for you other wise keep comments to yourself! Phantom will rock this opera house!
I think there are a couple of morals to this story: 1) don't judge a book by its cover. 2) if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. And 3) ALW is a genius and I trust him wholeheartedly. He has given us no reason not to trust him.
...i didn't mind the film: it was even traditional webber vhs.
and it isn't quite the taste that's depicted in any of his works as much as the paradigm on raw human emotions and the society it's bound by (hey i just thought of that, so don't tell me i've been studying it at uni and "have to" love it).
Sierra wasn't 21 when she was in the original, the Las Vegas Spectacular started in 2006 and she's 27 now. Making her 23/4 when she first played Christine. But ALW clearly doesn't have great mathematical skills anyway, as this show takes place "10 years later" in 1907 when the original story's set in 1881!
Love Never Dies IS A SEQUEL to the MUSICAL The Phantom of the Opera. As such, the scene in the film/movie where The Phantom lays the rose on Christine's grave has no relevance or bearing on when this musical is set, as the grave scene is not in the original musical. Also, so far there has been no talk of making this new musical into a film/movie. (OMG Love Never Dies looks amazing!!!)
except ALW can't count...and he makes me look good at maths...
God he was a genius with Joseph, Superstar, Evita, Cats, Starlight and Phantom and even the Woman in white and Sunest had their moments but really LND is disapointing
Crackah, it is a SEquel. It takes place after Christine runs off with Raoul and the Phantom disappears. He reappears in Coney Island, Christine and Raoul have a 10 year old son and the Phantom is part of the Freak Show at Coney Island. For all you rookies, the grave scene with the rose in the 2004 movie is just in the movie, it's not in the stage show. She died when she was 63 years old. This sequel is well before that scene in the movie.
@beuller7 No, it's not. It's the continuation of the story where Phantom of the Opera gaps when Christine leaves to when she comes back to his grave. Sort of... read "Phantom of Manhattan"
the grave scene is when christine dies many years later, and this takes place ten years a fter he dissapears, and i'm pretty sure that the grave scene is only in the 2004 movie. so it's phantom dissapears, then coney island, then when he places a rose on her grave.
@doopturd Yeah? He disappears in 1882....and for whatever reason, this "10 years after" story takes place10 years later... in 1907? That's just lazy. The show doesn't end with the grave scene
I really think Phantom SHOULDN'T have a sequel.oh well if they are continuing with it. Phantom is a perfect masterpiece on it's own n shouldn't be touched. why can't ALW produce another musical independent of phantom?i hate the idea of a 'sequel' coz phantom is irreplaceable.n Love Never Dies is too modern-looking. phantom is NOT modern. so don't ruin the original. even though ALW is a genius true his music is fantastic, but pls storyline of LND is crap..phantom's storyline is appealing..
A lot of Andrew's other work is pure genius. This newest addition, however, was a bad move, to say the least. POTO was a masterpiece on its own. I'm not sure any sequel *could* do the original justice, and it should have been left alone. I have a feeling this is going to be redundant and forgettable...
It's automatically redundant, and hopefully you're right in saying it will be forgettable. I do hope the world will have forgotten about this in 5 years' time.
Don't you guys know what's going to happen? The child he mentioned that is Christine and Raoul's? It's obviously the Phantom's child. That has to be one of the twists.
I don't think he should tamper with the original. He's going to turn into George Lucas. :(
the ONLY way I'll see this, is if Christine goes back to the Phantom. If he does go through w/ the sequal. That''ll be the ONLY reason I would watch it.
Honestly, I'm not sure if I even want a sequal, I completely agree w/ JoannaBanana11.
If Christine goes back to the Phantom, a lot of people will lose sympathy for him as he's no longer the underdog, plus there's nothing particularly appealing about a stalker, serial killer and psychopath getting his way through murder and deception. I have far more respect for the Phantom in the original because he loved Christine so much that he let her go.
If she does then the whole sequel's a redundant, pointless idea. And if she goes with the Phantom, then that just undoes the point of the original. It's a lose-lose situation.
this should be awesome! ^_^ I cant wait to see this!!! Sorry guys but you need to have a little more faith in the 3 ppl who are doing their best to make this possible. They all have one thing in commen... Making Their work a SUCCES!! And that should be enough for you! Trust them! They know what they're doing! I cant wait to go to New York and see this! ugh!
i cannot see this, it would kill me. phantom ended with a cliffhanger, true, but it was a satisfying cliffhanger, if that makes sense. i like to know that the phantom escaped the mob at the opera house, but it's supposed to be a mystery. in the novel, the phantom "erik" dies, possibly of a broken heart. there should be no move to new york. the 1st show was fantastic enough. sequels usually ruin things, and poto the 1st one will be AWL's only hit. Love Never Dies will be a flop. =(
@JoannaBanana11 Phantom is ALW's only hit? Er, you should wiki him. He is the most commercially successful theatre composer of all time, with shows including Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.
@hearmyfury Well, Whistle ran for several years and 1 song from it became the biggest seller in the UK and Boyzone's biggest single ever. Sunset ran for several years on WE and B'way.
Beautiful Game was his first nearly universal critical success, though, like WIW, a commercial failure. He has hosted 3 popular BBC S'day prime time shows which launched 3 commercially successful revivals, 3 new stars and new audiences for the theatre. Cats reached 21 and POTO kept going. Not bad?
what a suprise i see you on another page related to Love Never Dies , ell me who put the stick up your arse? , every single page has you leaving negative comments , it's a very simple concept , if you don't like it , don't search for video's on it?
@Matty3Mite3 Sadly, demeurdulac and hearmyfury search all of these pages every day spouting their negativity and dwelling on petty and often contradictory issues. It really is very sad. I bet you they will go and see this production and/or by the soundtrack.
I really love "The Phantom...". I hope that in near future we can see "Love Never Dies" arround the world; especially in Mexico. Mexico have a lot of "Phans"!!!!
People Are Thinking Far Too Much About This. Who cares how he gets to America and all that crap...he just gets there...thats it. And I dont think people should judge it before its even out.. I know its a sequel to Phantom but after listening to "Till I Hear You Sing" I think its gonna be a Smash in its own right and i think its gonna become it own thing!!!
Who cares? Millions of Phans. Those who like to see decent art in the theatre that engages both the mind and the heart. This is just a badly thought out mess that shouldn't exist. Honestly, can't you come up with an argument better than "who cares?". Really doesn't make you sound credible at all.
U DON'T THINK PHANTOM WILL GO OFF BROADWAY SINCE THIS IS COMING ON!! it is my one true DREAM to be Christine in Phantom and if it goes off Broadway before I have a chance to act in it, i will be completely CRUSHED.
@xxkewldudexx it's not going to go off broadway. Think of it this way: it's just another musical. Yes, it's the sequel, but if it's successful, then they will just go hand in hand for however long they last... hopefully a really long time :)
Its interesting that he says he is so story driven. I mean some one said that he could do a great musical from everything, even a phonebook and here he says that he cant do anything without a story that makes him jump about it.
"Every one that writes a musical has to be story driven" Maybe why I like this form off writing then. Johan.
the problem is nobody wants to give it a chance You can't judge something until you have actually seen it. It may seem like a bad idea at the time but it may all turn out okay in the end.
I 100% agree with you! People should give it a chance! You should at least wait to see it before you deem it good or bad. I remember when I went to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, I thought I was gonna hate it. The story didn't sound that interesting and the few songs I heard didn't sound that great. Then when I ACTUALLY saw it, I LOVED it! Now Phantom is one of my all-time FAVORITE shows and I hope the sequel is just as good.
It's Andrew Lloyd Webber! The music is going to be great even if the story isn't great (though I highly doubt that.)If you don't like it, don't see it, he doesn't need your money anyways :)
Who is Christine gonna be with Erik or Raulf....? Also in the movie they deaded it Christine was dead so if they make a move out of Love nevers dies that would be werid. that's what i think. I hope Andrew gets better :) <3
I an=m not going to let you know what i know but FLOP why do all the Geniuses Ruin thier MAsterpieces.
and The Music is great the most hypnotic music I have seen Mun the Phantom is more than that ITS ALL OF TZHE MOST STRANGE FELLINGS MASHED TOGETHER AND CROWNED MORE POWERFULL.
Controversial? Hell, I'll give you some controversy, Webber. Ask me this: If someone kills two people, is wanted for murder, flees, and then you give him a chance at a girl, to perhaps kill some more people in America, HOW IS THAT RIGHT?! HOW. EXPLAIN IT TO ME BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
How fascinating to hear what the man himself has to say on what is fast becoming a somewhat controversial musical. Yes I agree, I'm nervous about the whole 'sequel' thing to what was so special and unique first time round, but undoubtedly the music will be fab. Think I will have to say it out of curiousity, but as many have already said, that is undoubtedly how it will originally get its fortune...
omg i was so excited when i heared that the phantom 2 was coming i was thrilled by all books and the music and the phantom was my first love i'm probably going to london next year!
I just hope a certain plot point from Phantom of Manhattan was thrown out. Really, a sequel would be lovely idea if it wasn't based off of that travesty of a novel. = [

TheDreamsindarkness 1 year ago
...i didn't mind the film: it was even traditional webber vhs.
and it isn't quite the taste that's depicted in any of his works as much as the paradigm on raw human emotions and the society it's bound by (hey i just thought of that, so don't tell me i've been studying it at uni and "have to" love it).

the Movie took place in 1870, the dates on her tombstone are 1854-1917 yes she was 63 according to that.
in 1870 she was 16! Same age Emmy Rossom was at the time of filming!

OMG Love Never Dies WAS.............. AWESOME!!! I just got back from seeing it and OMG, it was good! I saw Webber in the back of the theater!!!
wickedwitchwest12323 1 year ago
Sierra wasn't 21 when she was in the original, the Las Vegas Spectacular started in 2006 and she's 27 now. Making her 23/4 when she first played Christine. But ALW clearly doesn't have great mathematical skills anyway, as this show takes place "10 years later" in 1907 when the original story's set in 1881!
LerouxsPhantom 1 year ago
Love Never Dies IS A SEQUEL to the MUSICAL The Phantom of the Opera. As such, the scene in the film/movie where The Phantom lays the rose on Christine's grave has no relevance or bearing on when this musical is set, as the grave scene is not in the original musical. Also, so far there has been no talk of making this new musical into a film/movie. (OMG Love Never Dies looks amazing!!!)
00hartj 1 year ago
Love Never Dies is a PREquel. It's the story of the Phantom as a young boy. Can't wait!
beuller7 1 year ago
i think its not a prequel...after all Webber says its 10 years after the phantom of the opera
ragnar444 1 year ago
except ALW can't count...and he makes me look good at maths...
God he was a genius with Joseph, Superstar, Evita, Cats, Starlight and Phantom and even the Woman in white and Sunest had their moments but really LND is disapointing
Peadarisback 1 year ago
@Peadarisback
True enough. How is 1881 to1907 10 years????
1MusicManiac1 1 year ago
@beuller7
Smuug 1 year ago
its a sequel. gustaves the young boy, not the phantom
CommenterVlogger09 1 year ago
@beuller7 No, it's not. It's the continuation of the story where Phantom of the Opera gaps when Christine leaves to when she comes back to his grave. Sort of... read "Phantom of Manhattan"
mylady13 1 year ago
the grave scene is when christine dies many years later, and this takes place ten years a fter he dissapears, and i'm pretty sure that the grave scene is only in the 2004 movie. so it's phantom dissapears, then coney island, then when he places a rose on her grave.

the sequel takes place 10 years after the phantom dissappears after he kidnaps christine. not 10 years after the rose appears on her grave.

Phantom is a perfect masterpiece on it's own n shouldn't be touched. why can't ALW produce another musical independent of phantom?i hate the idea of a 'sequel' coz phantom is irreplaceable.n Love Never Dies is too modern-looking. phantom is NOT modern. so don't ruin the original. even though ALW is a genius true his music is fantastic, but pls storyline of LND is crap..phantom's storyline is appealing..
carolynluv 2 years ago
I shall reserve judgment until I've seen it.
I don't think anything can surpass the original POTO , but it may be surprisingly good.

No, I don't have any faith. He greenlit that awful movie for heaven's sake.
demeuredulac 2 years ago
A lot of Andrew's other work is pure genius. This newest addition, however, was a bad move, to say the least. POTO was a masterpiece on its own. I'm not sure any sequel *could* do the original justice, and it should have been left alone. I have a feeling this is going to be redundant and forgettable...

Honestly, I'm not sure if I even want a sequal, I completely agree w/ JoannaBanana11.
fallenangel1997 2 years ago
If Christine goes back to the Phantom, a lot of people will lose sympathy for him as he's no longer the underdog, plus there's nothing particularly appealing about a stalker, serial killer and psychopath getting his way through murder and deception. I have far more respect for the Phantom in the original because he loved Christine so much that he let her go.
hearmyfury 2 years ago 6
read the book..."the Phantom of Manhattan" by Frederik Forsyth...you'll know the story then...

I just hope Christine stays with Raoul. I like the phantom but he "s a killer.
JohannaPalacio001 2 years ago 3
If she does then the whole sequel's a redundant, pointless idea. And if she goes with the Phantom, then that just undoes the point of the original. It's a lose-lose situation.
demeuredulac 2 years ago
this should be awesome! ^_^ I cant wait to see this!!! Sorry guys but you need to have a little more faith in the 3 ppl who are doing their best to make this possible. scorpio3671 2 years ago
I only know of three musical sequels:
Annie Warbucks (after Annie)
Bring Back Birdie (after Bye Bye Birdie)
Divorce me Darling (after The Boyfriend)
...they all bombed.
I have faith the magnificent Lloyd Webber will once again transform how we know musical theatre!!
Lala2616 2 years ago
This could well succeed because it has the advantage of riding off the back of Phantom.
Artistically though, it's already a failure IMHO.
PhantomScorp 2 years ago 10
i cannot see this, it would kill me. phantom ended with a cliffhanger, true, but it was a satisfying cliffhanger, if that makes sense. i like to know that the phantom escaped the mob at the opera house, but it's supposed to be a mystery. in the novel, the phantom "erik" dies, possibly of a broken heart. there should be no move to new york. the 1st show was fantastic enough. sequels usually ruin things, and poto the 1st one will be AWL's only hit. Love Never Dies will be a flop. =(
JoannaBanana11 2 years ago 5
@JoannaBanana11 Phantom is ALW's only hit? Er, you should wiki him. He is the most commercially successful theatre composer of all time, with shows including Cats and Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita.
nw609 2 years ago
She probably means PoTO being ALW's only currently running hit on Broadway and in London. None of his shows in the last decade have been hits.
hearmyfury 2 years ago 2
@hearmyfury Well, Whistle ran for several years and 1 song from it became the biggest seller in the UK and Boyzone's biggest single ever. Sunset ran for several years on WE and B'way.
Beautiful Game was his first nearly universal critical success, though, like WIW, a commercial failure. He has hosted 3 popular BBC S'day prime time shows which launched 3 commercially successful revivals, 3 new stars and new audiences for the theatre. Cats reached 21 and POTO kept going. Not bad?
nw609 2 years ago
Webber's many hits include:
Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, Song & Dance, Starlight Express, and Sunset Boulevard.
FYI
ipfrehley 2 years ago
Starlight Express flopped on Broadway.
Sunset was good but it lost a hell of a lot of money.
ALW's many flops include Jeeves, The Woman in White, The Beautiful Game and Whistle Down the Wind.

Who cares? Millions of Phans. Those who like to see decent art in the theatre that engages both the mind and the heart. This is just a badly thought out mess that shouldn't exist. Honestly, can't you come up with an argument better than "who cares?". Really doesn't make you sound credible at all.

Its interesting that he says he is so story driven. I mean some one said that he could do a great musical from everything, even a phonebook and here he says that he cant do anything without a story that makes him jump about it.

the problem is nobody wants to give it a chance You can't judge something until you have actually seen it. It may seem like a bad idea at the time but it may all turn out okay in the end.
LilttleMoney 2 years ago
I 100% agree with you! People should give it a chance! You should at least wait to see it before you deem it good or bad. I remember when I went to see The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, I thought I was gonna hate it. The story didn't sound that interesting and the few songs I heard didn't sound that great. Then when I ACTUALLY saw it, I LOVED it! Now Phantom is one of my all-time FAVORITE shows and I hope the sequel is just as good.

Fingers crossed...............
