I'm so sick of Steve Perry fans, yes he was an excellent singer and was the face of Journey but he was a big douche that fired other members , did what he wanted. He could've stayed with Journey but he made the decision to leave and not return...ever. Enough is enough, lets support the beand Journey since there isn't many groups worth listening these days.
para mi el mejor siempre sera Steve Perry definitivamente.... no hay alguien mas que se le compare, en realidad fue el mejor vocalista que a estado en Journey
@tonyinmiami99 This guy on Drums is Dean Castronovo who played on Hit albums for Bad English, Hardline, and Ozzy Osbourne thank you very much. Steve Smith didn't wanna go on so they got a Rock Drummer instead.
@rockofhysteria I hear ya; being a Drummer myself I definitely dig Dean; I'm just saying as PURE talent; he can't touch Steve; at the time Steve was probably the #3 Drummer in the World; Educated and Schooled in Music and was also in Drum and Bugle Corps; which anyone that knows about that; knows that it's the Best of the Best; But I agree...Dean ROCKS !!!
better yet listen to Dean Castronovo drive the drums. If Rock and Roll lives and dies on the drums then Journey and Castronovo should live to be a ripe older age!
Sort of interesting thing is ignore who is singing lead (Perry, Augerri, or Arnel) and watch the guys play, there is a reason they are still going after all these years, THEY CAN FLAT PLAY!!!!!
Journey will always be Journey, times change and people change. With whoever is with the band they have stayed with the tradition of fantastic music, stunning performances and playing all the songs we have come to love. We all have our preference as to singers or musicians but lets all get together and realize Journey is still one of the finest bands there has ever been.
Journey just got all the best singers...Steve Perry, Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Sotto & Arnel Pineda......what more can you ask for? THEY ARE REALLY GREAT!
everybody keeps saying scott soto was the best replacement...i have yet to hear him sing. i liked steve augeri...but everyone seems to pale to steve perry...i mean it just feels like some of the magic is missing...
There is something missing in Journey, the fire and friction between Perry and Schon. That was what brought great songwriting and performances. In live shows, they constantly raised each others game, which usually made the songs better that the actual recordings. That love/hate relationship is what brought the magic. It was a place and time that will never be duplicated for them. They are lucky it did happen though.
@PREPARE4THEHYPOCRITE I saw Soto with Journey in 2006 when they toured with Leppard and he was good not Perry or Augeri good but good none the less if you wanna hear his greatness though you can't just listen to his stuff on the Journey tour you have to listen to all his recorded work Solo and with the following bands, Talisman,Eyes,Yngwie Malmsteen, Steel Dragon, and W.E.T.
This is when Journey started to suck! They should of waited for Steve Perry to heal up so he could be 100% and do what he dose best. Their new album is the worst shit I've heard and they think Journey sounds great. They have lost it! You guys suck without Perry. Wise up before it's too late. And bring back Gregg Rolie and Steve Smith. They also made the band too.
@thundergodfan Ok dude I like Dean and all but you really can't compare the two because Dean and Steve both represent two different styles of Drumming Dean is a Rock and Roll Drummer and Steve Smith is a very Jazz influenced Drummer. That's two completely different styles.
steve augeri tuvo su momento, pero steve perry sigue siendo lo maximo, arnel pineda tiene su estilo, rejuvenecio a la banda, el albul trial by fire creo que es el mejor
if you really want to know the ONLY original member of JOURNEY was and still is Neal Schon.read your facts cause Jonathan Cain didn't join the group till around 1978& the group was signed in 1975.Steve Perry join JOURNEY in 1977 and gave the group their first top 40 hit"ANY WAY YOU WANT IT".Greg Rollie(the original lead singer)left the group in 1980.
@classicmetalhead88 Actually, Jon Cain joined when Greg Rolie asked him to join the band since he was leaving that pomp rock scene back in 1980. Not 1978.
@classicmetalhead88 You've got your facts screwed up lol first of all Cain joined in the 80's not 78 he didn't come till after Rollie Left which was after the Departure Album.
2nd Journey's first hit was NOT Any Way You Want It. their first hits were Wheel In The Sky and Lights from The Infinity Album
also Both Schon and Ross Valory are original members who are still in the group it's THEIR band not Perry's despite what Perry fanatics want to believe
all of you who think journey isnt journey w/o steve perry need to stop fooling youselves. steve only wished he had the dance moves like aguri here. if steve came back to journey his half-assed broken down vocalchords could not keep up with the rest of the band, plus they dont alow wheelchairs for front men.
Steve Perry MADE Journey the success that still lingers today! It has nothing to do with 'dancing' but EVERYTHING to do with vocals and producing hits! The band was WRONG for going on without him, they will NEVER be the success they were with him. If you notice, two other members are the original ones that were
with Sreve Perry - are they in wheelchairs too? Do your homework!
"steve only wished he had the dance moves like aguri here"
spoken like a tween raised on american idol karaoke - I weep for this generation that didn't get to hear true artists on radio and albums instead of slick, over produced glee imitators
its all about the music, and talent, honey - give my steve perry in a wheel chair any day
click on any video on the right with steve to find out why people keep trying to imitate him
oh, and if you want dancing, search for James Brown
Steve Perry held Journey HOSTAGE for 15 years after he sang his last song with them, and now they are trying to capture the past, but it's passed them by. The sad thing is Journey has to still pay Perry to perform. I was a huge Journey fan, but as great as Perry was, he ruined everything a long time ago.
@mazsenior Hey man im not going to get mad and call you names or anything cuz u got a right to your opinon but if your notice Steve Perry came in and they had their first big hit with the infintity album and the reason Perry still gets paid is cuz he wrote the songs wouldnt you want money for something that is your creation when they have arnel do all of Journey's greatest hits?
@steveperrydaman You don't understand. Sure, he's entitled to his publishing royalties for the songs he wrote. But there's a clause in the Journey contract stating Steve has to be paid an equal share from TOURING, though he's not performing. How is that fair? It's getting paid to do NOTHING. And Perry's solo career was totally aimed at killing Journey, as he took some great songs (would have been Journey's first #1 hit) refusing to play with Journey, even he produced it to sound like them.
@mazsenior Well first of all i get where your coming from with him getting paid the same but think if it was a contract then they negotiated it and Steve didnt start his solo carrer in till after Neal Schon started his and schon had songs that could have been Journey great hits but he kept him to himself like Perry kept his songs to himself and Perry made them sound like that cuz thats the type of muscian he writes and thats what he is use to writing so Perry cant be blamed for that.
@steveperrydaman NO I don't think a single Schon and Hammer Song could pass for Journey because the way they were written and when you hear those songs it's obvious they would never work as a Journey song and yes I have everything by Schon and Hammer.
Augeri is an excellent singer and he played a significant role in Journey's history. He cannot be compared to Perry, because they constitute two completely different vocal entities. They are both, however, best at what they do. Respect and admiration to Journey, one of the best bands ever.
'This guy' has been making music and singing way before he even thought about signing on with Journey. You idiots need to do your research. If it wasn't for him Journey wouldn't have continued this far and even found Arnel, they would be dead. If anyone was to replace Steve Perry it would be Augeri.
Good lord, Perry wasn't even in the band when they wrote this tune, give this guy a break. You fools saying Augeri is a "sound alike" obviously don't listen to much music. The guy is/was a tenor with a similar timbre as Perry's. I think he sang this song damn well, had a great voice, and was a good fit with the band. I certainly prefer his style and interpretation to Arnel's (who's a pretty damned good singer himself).
Maybe as long as they don't play the old songs they could be good. The old songs only Perry can sing. If they come up w/new material then they might be good
you people who bitch about Journey trying to find a clone of Steve Perry have little understanding of why you have to find a singer who almost couldn't help but sounding "perry-like"...here's the deal....people who pay for tickets to see a show want to hear the "hits"...Journey had a whole catalog of hits that were recorded by a legendary "high tenor" vocalist who created soaring vocals that are difficult for any singer to emulate...so what would you have the band do?...hire Louis Armstrong??
@scissors36 This song was written with Steve Augeri - Steve Perry never sang it, so what the hell are you talking about? This guy has a great voice - Maybe Steve Perry wouldn't be able to sound like THIS, eh?
Journey isn't looking for a clone of Steve Perry, just somebody that can handle those high notes when they do the classic songs. What the fuck does everybody expect them to do - cover Kiss songs?
@bigdaddytrip uh I never said Steve Perry sang it. I meant he was an awful replacement for Steve Perry as lead singer. Obviously they were looking for a Steve Perry clone and it didn't work out for them. Even Arnel Pineda is better than this guy.
@scissors36 Well, opinions are like assholes...we all have at least one. I don't agree about Steve Augeri though. He sounded VERY much like Steve Perry. Unfortunately he developed throat problems like a lot of singers and had to quit. Now, I don't think ANYBODY can really replace Steve Perry. He has a charisma and sings with such passion - no way to replace that. I'm just saying that Augeri did a great job. I wish they had stuck with Jeff Scott Soto - that would have been interesting.
@jrock2264 Jeff Scott Soto is an excellent vocalist - just not a good Steve Perry cover-guy. He has the pipes, and the ability to hit the highs, just sounded different. I didn't think of him as a "replacement" Steve Perry at all.
One thing everybody should get over is the "high notes." Steve is a high tenor, yes, and all of his vocals are in that mid to high tenor range, but if you really want to hear HIGH notes and huge range, listen to Judas Priest. (This should start a nice war)
This is actually a really good song. It's unfortunate that Steve Augeri couldn't have stayed with the band longer. Everyone wants to ride him for trying to copy Perry but who wouldn't give the opportunity to front Journey. Augeri did a great job and deserves props for it.
They are always chasing after a clone of Steve, but find it. It is better to repair a broken relationship, then chasing the ghost of what once was and never will be.
@Monkeychild41 Thank you :) Augeri is not a Perry Clone and never tried to be and anyone who thinks so is a real dumbass and needs to do their rock research and go find his 1st album with Tall Stories and his albums with Tyketto. He had a tenor voice but he wasn't tryin to exactly emulate Perry like Arnel does now.
This is the only song that captured the Journey magic that I've heard since Steve Perry. Neil Schon kicked ass and is one of the greatest live guitarist . Augeri did as good as Perry. Get over it people.
ole herb got it right when he hired steve in "'77. they had a great run until 83-84. steve augeri is the best replacement they could of got. sssoooooooo close. the other two, FORGET. journey is steve perry, perry is journey. with all the replacements of lead singers, maybe it"s time to get rid of lead guitarists. by the way, great addition of dean castranova, the drummer. rock on journey!!!!!!!!
When they fired Steve Augeri it took all Journeys fans with him. Who believes neal schons bs about throat problems? Same story with another Steve...Perry. Think about this: 1) On Arrival tour they had an understudy/backup singer. What happened to him.(throat problems?). 2) Explain the huge buyout Augeri got form the band, and 3) Explain Tall Stories that Augeri released within a year and NO throat problems. This is schons 3rd front man debacle (John Waite was #2: Bad English/Journey 2). ITS SAD.
@ulsterthistle When the legal dispute over the band broke out, they thought they had Perry legally restrained from using the band name or material, HOWEVER, Perry had done the same to Neil Schon. SO, Schon got most of the band together and they formed Bad English and John Waite was the lead. Now Schons whole issue was the front man stealing the glory. Now with Bad English IT HAPPENED AGAIN.They were known as John Waites band.Thats also what happened with Augeri.Schon has a huge ego, it killed them
@kevingthompson13 Sad for us the fans , but all the guitarrist have a seriuos problem with "EGO" look Malmsteen, Van Halen, John Sykes and so many others..= /
@superocklevel You are mostly right as sad as that fact is. Some guys get together and form a band, develop a unique sound that is solely them, and they start squabbling like children over whose sound it is. It is THEIR sound. The collective is much more than its individual parts. Neil Schon is a great guitarist, Perry & Augeri were/are great vocalists. They were so much better when they were together. I have been following european bands. They are much better about these issues.Great music too.
@kevingthompson13 Agreed!!! but i still love millions of american bands even so with their problems..lol also i got an acknowledge that new european bands really are great in specially swedish bands...
@superocklevel Try DELAIN: Frozen, April Rain and The Gathering.Try Nightwish: Nemo, Amaranth, Sahara.Try Amberian Dawn: Artica. Try Edenbridge: Arcana. I have a TOTALLY MUSIC/ARTIST CHANNEL to support bands and too educate people about music past and present. I got great 80s playlists as well as much european current stuff. The channels a blast, check it out. There are over 160 bands as official friends.Even some great ones like TRIUMPH, Zebra, and Foreigner.
I just found this song and i think its great, steve augeri is a great singer, he does this song very well , when it first starts out sorta songs like def leppards music, dont care for arnel that much with journey dosent fit .
I like Augeri but I think the band tried a little too hard to find a guy that could mimick Perry. He not only imitates Perry's singing style (understandable) but he also kinda looks like Perry with a perm & he even has the same first name! Kinda reminds me of those guys that dump their g/f & then go out & find a girl that looks almost exactly like her. LOL
I don't want to hurt the guy's feelings, but like someone else said.. Mr. Augeri had some big shoes to fill. I don't know of anyone that could do it. (my opinon only) But, this guy does have a good voice.
@wiccanbutterfly05 He refused for the longest time to get a surgery he needed. They couldn't move on without Steve and got tired of waiting, so they all agreed, even SP, to find someone else
One guitarist to another....NOBODY BENDS THOSE NOTES LIKE NEIL SCHON....Every solo, he consistently sets those frets afire!!!! He's one of the most UNDER-rated guitarists out there. I absolutely love his playing!!
i do agree with you on this one lmmortailsmessor, and i don't really think that people are just putting the man down,,after all it's like you have said that man had to feel some pretty damn big shoe's and he does it well. no question in my mind about that. i just thank people would have rather seen perry up there instead. that's all i'm saying. i have nothing against the man myself, so i'll not say anything bad about him. but steve perry is alway's first, i think that's enough said. thumb's up,
Okay everyone. We all know Augeri isn't another Perry. Nobody will ever be. But give the man more credit than any of you are. Put yourself in his shoes; he had one hell of a pair of shoes to fill. He does a great job at it too. If you still think he is shit, put yourself in his position. Give a video response to my comment and show me and everybody else how hard it would be to fill the shoes Augeri has had to do. video reaponse to this comment. If it is legit, I will delete this comment
Can pros of this caliber appreciate each other? The drummer's working his a** off on this song......the band sounds frickin' great. I saw them on this tour....too bad a lot of people my age (46-ish) like to sit instead of stand at concerts that rock!
Journey today is like Chicago......w/o Cetera thier just a shadow of thier former self.. Hanging on.... to try to recapture the past....Ide have more respect if both groups would change thier names to something else...the Has Beens!!!!!!!!!!!
@iampower714 seriously? you dont know? they kicked steve out of the band in the 90s and got a new singer named steve augeri. then his voice got all fucked up so they hired this other guy named jeff scott soto but he sucked so he left the band, now they have a guy named arnel pinada
@TheGrayTruck - fuck u mother fucker nobodys better than steve perry are you out of your goddamn Mind u asshole...STEVE PERRY IS JOURNEY..FUCK this goddamn guy he sux balls..and so do u mother fucker
@kimknerr90 if you look at all the bands that have replaced singers, they've all tried to find similar replacements. it's a shame people are so close minded to change, most of those people probably missed out on Arrival, arguably one of Journeys best albums, because it wasn't done with Perry. Arnel is good, and the albums they've put out with him are good, I personally wish they could have continued with Augeri...
Perry left Journey. Even *Perry* acknowledged in a recent interview that he's not going back. Journey moved on; "journey" implies change. It's been over 15 years since Perry left. Us fans need to get over it. Journey HAS gone on, and they're still Journey. They existed before Steve Perry; they're still going on after. Folks who continue to post the "Journey isn't Journey" BS are scared of change, to the point that they're still trolling their idiocy 15 years later. Get over it already.
"Journey" got sounds like...........but they will never be Journey w/o Steve Perry!! It make me sad cause I would not pay 50cents now to see them!!!!!
BUT.......I would sell my next born (just kiddin) to meet Steve just ONCE!!!!
I have posted some videos of myself singing to journey. I would appreciate it if you could visit my channel. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. thank you.
I have posted some videos of myself singing to journey. I would appreciate it if you could visit my channel. I would appreciate any comments or suggestions. thank you.
I thought Augeri was probably the best "replacement" for Steve Perry. Much better than than the rest including Pineda. But...it's not Steve Perry..and this was a good album for it's place. And it could be me and they are older but...they just don't seem like they're enjoying themselves on stage (particularly Shon and Cain) like they did back in the Escape Tour days.
at least with Augeri the band did new music , adding Jack Blades to write some music .The new singer Arnel Pineda and the band are riding the coat tails of The awesome Perry Era
@clan7511 Well I wouldn't blame Pineda for Revelations' new songs being overly reminiscent of the Perry era; the songs had all been written prior to his joining the band. And actually, according to interviews on the next album, the next album is going to be more rocky and experimental and apparently Arnel wrote some stuff on the album. So I'd wait and see, personally. ^_^
Alright, Augeri! Love this guy. His voice isn't as powerful as Perry's at any rate..but then again, they did some interesting new material with his more chorus-like voice. Pineda not so much. Pineda sounds like he's reading the lyrics off to you or something..he pronounces like every letter of every word. lol.
Plus, I like Augeri's fashion statement...Perry had the epic hair..this guy's got a full set. Looks pretty beast.
@cjdstruction1 I'm inclined to disagree. Deen Castronovo's voice is MUCH better than Arnel Pineda's, even while playing the drums. Arnel Pineda has a weird accent, and cuts all his notes short when he does live. He can't even hit the high notes in Wheel in the Sky. He can't sing Mother, Father, that's why they have Deen Castronovo sing AND drum it at the SAME time. I don't know why they don't fire arnel and just have Deen do it all...he does anyway.
@cjdstruction1 I guess that's true..I mean all their success came from a lead singer. They didn't have a lead the first couple years they were a band, and they almost had to disband until Herbie got them a lead singer.
Maybe Journey wouldn't be the same without a front man..but I still think it's not the same with THIS front man..
@RyuTairen And you're incorrect there. Look, we have a choice. Journey with a new singer who is (and it's just a fact, so suck it up) absolutely awesome, Or we can have no Journey at all. Personally I don't want to live in a world without Journey.
@mmyt6767 That's not a fact, that's an opinion. A fact is he cuts all his notes short. A fact is he's a sound-alike, the fact that he's a good singer remains, but "Good enough" doesn't cut it when it comes to Journey. Not for me, anyway. I still watch live sessions to watch Deen Castronovo and Neil Schon mostly, even Steve Augeri was a little short of "good enough". I just have high expectations of the best band in the world is all.
@RyuTairen That the kid has an awesome voice is a fact. I'm sorry if that bothers your sensibilities, but it is indeed a fact. Maybe you would be happier if they all just sat back and never wrote, sang, or toured again. Anyway, nothing we say here is going to change the fact that they have a new lead singer and whether you like him as much or not, he's still making loads of money for the voice he has.
@mmyt6767 Sure, he has an awesome voice. But he uses it wrongly to copy off others (Which he does in several bands), can't make his own music, and makes loads off others' music.
Yeah he's good, but making loads of money by copying people isn't my idea of honor, prestige or any other just cause. Just because you're probably Filipino doesn't mean we all have to like him. Races shouldn't make a difference..I know he got a lot of support because of that.
@RyuTairen Then why did you bring race up? And by the way...I'm NOT Fillipino. You're assuming things which is wrong to start out with. Do you ever Karaoke? Do you ever get paid for it? He's making a living and if you don't like him, then don't listen to him. Meanwhile, those of us who can accept change are going to love the HELL out of having them making music again.
@mmyt6767 Do you really have to drag the conversation on longer? After 3 months you respond again? I brought race up because it SHOULDN'T matter, and it DOES matter. And a lot of people who DO like him ARE Filipino. <.< For the record, they don't hardly make music anymore. They just play what they have since 5 years ago. They have HALF an album of new songs. Couldn't even do a full one. Why? Because apparently they don't like change either. Food for thought.
@RyuTairen Just so you know, I don't check on this thing with ANY regularity. And you made the assumption that I was Fillipino. And I still don't see what that has to do with anything. Look, the bottom line is this: They still have made more money than either of us put together. If you don't like them, don't listen. And with that, I'm done with this convo.
@RyuTairen Well, I don't see Steve coming back, so enjoy what's being put out now, or continue to listen to the old stuff. There's LOTS of choices in this world.
@os2bulldog If I'm not mistaken, I have this DVD. I believe this is a cut from their '02 DVD. Unfortunately, that's all I can tell you. I bought it a while back but I don't remember where I got it. But yes, there is an Augeri DVD for '02. FYI: There were 3 DVDs released professionally that I know of. 1981 (Perry), 2002 (Augeri), and I think 2008 with Pineda
Sorry he is ok, but not Steve Perry. I am not a fan of Journey now with the different singers. I think it is wrong for them to tour and put out albums without Steve. Journey is Journey because of Steve Perry. I am faithful to the original.
@4ffcmw lol, You just made my day bro...IT IS A DUDE. If you can get a chick..named STEVE, and make her sing like a GUY and imitate Steve Perry...then I'll reconsider the impossibility of this being a woman. lololol
OH, one more comment~while Augeri was with them, they DID do a great song from the movie "Armegeddon" called "Remember Me"!! Now, that song actually gave me some chills!! You have to hear the cd, because it got all of .2 seconds in the movie. Check out the video, it's worth it!! Still NO PERRY, NO JOURNEY!! Bless Augeri's heart though, he gave all he had for Neal, actually gave his vocal cords. Neal you are a selfish jerk!!
@NCFLbabygirl I'm a Journey fan with Perry on vocals, but I also think "Remember Me" is one of their best songs. I prefer Augeri on vocals rather than Arnel.
@journey4ever I too am a huge Journey fan. And although I feel Steve Perry had a voice that will never truly be replaced (face it, he was awesome), I also feel they should've kept Augeri on Lead. I perfer him over Arnel as well. He sounds good, but I feel he's just mimicking Perry, as if just impersonating him rather than having a true singing voice. I see Augeri as having vocal talent.

One thing here we have to agree;
Journey without this guitar player, the keyboard player, and Steve Perry voice,or someone traying to copy him,is nothing.
After Perry, they always try to find someone with a similar voice to keep rocking their songs!!

if you really want to know the ONLY original member of JOURNEY was and still is Neal Schon.read your facts cause Jonathan Cain didn't join the group till around 1978& the group was signed in 1975.Steve Perry join JOURNEY in 1977 and gave the group their first top 40 hit"ANY WAY YOU WANT IT".Greg Rollie(the original lead singer)left the group in 1980.
classicmetalhead88 5 months ago
@classicmetalhead88 Actually, Jon Cain joined when Greg Rolie asked him to join the band since he was leaving that pomp rock scene back in 1980. Not 1978.
pdeleon9 4 months ago
@classicmetalhead88 You've got your facts screwed up lol first of all Cain joined in the 80's not 78 he didn't come till after Rollie Left which was after the Departure Album.
2nd Journey's first hit was NOT Any Way You Want It. their first hits were Wheel In The Sky and Lights from The Infinity Album
also Both Schon and Ross Valory are original members who are still in the group it's THEIR band not Perry's despite what Perry fanatics want to believe
rockofhysteria 1 week ago
all of you who think journey isnt journey w/o steve perry need to stop fooling youselves. steve only wished he had the dance moves like aguri here. if steve came back to journey his half-assed broken down vocalchords could not keep up with the rest of the band, plus they dont alow wheelchairs for front men.
egghed32 5 months ago
@egghed32
Do your homework!
pg5941 5 months ago
@egghed32

I was a huge Journey fan, but as great as Perry was, he ruined everything a long time ago.
mazsenior 5 months ago
@mazsenior Hey man im not going to get mad and call you names or anything cuz u got a right to your opinon but if your notice Steve Perry came in and they had their first big hit with the infintity album and the reason Perry still gets paid is cuz he wrote the songs wouldnt you want money for something that is your creation when they have arnel do all of Journey's greatest hits?
steveperrydaman 4 months ago
@steveperrydaman You don't understand. Sure, he's entitled to his publishing royalties for the songs he wrote. But there's a clause in the Journey contract stating Steve has to be paid an equal share from TOURING, though he's not performing. How is that fair? It's getting paid to do NOTHING. And Perry's solo career was totally aimed at killing Journey, as he took some great songs (would have been Journey's first #1 hit) refusing to play with Journey, even he produced it to sound like them.
mazsenior 4 months ago
@mazsenior Well first of all i get where your coming from with him getting paid the same but think if it was a contract then they negotiated it and Steve didnt start his solo carrer in till after Neal Schon started his and schon had songs that could have been Journey great hits but he kept him to himself like Perry kept his songs to himself and Perry made them sound like that cuz thats the type of muscian he writes and thats what he is use to writing so Perry cant be blamed for that.

rockofhysteria 3 months ago

@steveperrydaman NO I don't think a single Schon and Hammer Song could pass for Journey because the way they were written and when you hear those songs it's obvious they would never work as a Journey song and yes I have everything by Schon and Hammer.

Augeri is an excellent singer and he played a significant role in Journey's history. He cannot be compared to Perry, because they constitute two completely different vocal entities. They are both, however, best at what they do. Respect and admiration to Journey, one of the best bands ever.
krzywho1989 6 months ago 18
'This guy' has been making music and singing way before he even thought about signing on with Journey. You idiots need to do your research. If it wasn't for him Journey wouldn't have continued this far and even found Arnel, they would be dead. If anyone was to replace Steve Perry it would be Augeri.
t3hPoundcake 6 months ago
Good lord, Perry wasn't even in the band when they wrote this tune, give this guy a break. You fools saying Augeri is a "sound alike" obviously don't listen to much music. The guy is/was a tenor with a similar timbre as Perry's. I think he sang this song damn well, had a great voice, and was a good fit with the band. I certainly prefer his style and interpretation to Arnel's (who's a pretty damned good singer himself).
ecaravello 6 months ago
A singer that can actually do the job well is better than having the band broke up cause they didnt decide to get another singer and not to move on.

Soldano88 6 months ago
you people who bitch about Journey trying to find a clone of Steve Perry have little understanding of why you have to find a singer who almost couldn't help but sounding "perry-like"...here's the deal....people who pay for tickets to see a show want to hear the "hits"...Journey had a whole catalog of hits that were recorded by a legendary "high tenor" vocalist who created soaring vocals that are difficult for any singer to emulate...so what would you have the band do?...hire Louis Armstrong??
islapilluminati 6 months ago
Ugh gross.......worst replacement for Steve Perry ever.
scissors36 6 months ago
@scissors36 This song was written with Steve Augeri - Steve Perry never sang it, so what the hell are you talking about? This guy has a great voice - Maybe Steve Perry wouldn't be able to sound like THIS, eh?
Journey isn't looking for a clone of Steve Perry, just somebody that can handle those high notes when they do the classic songs. What the fuck does everybody expect them to do - cover Kiss songs?
bigdaddytrip 6 months ago 2
@bigdaddytrip uh I never said Steve Perry sang it. I meant he was an awful replacement for Steve Perry as lead singer. Obviously they were looking for a Steve Perry clone and it didn't work out for them. Even Arnel Pineda is better than this guy.
scissors36 6 months ago
@scissors36 Well, opinions are like assholes...we all have at least one. I don't agree about Steve Augeri though. He sounded VERY much like Steve Perry. Unfortunately he developed throat problems like a lot of singers and had to quit. Now, I don't think ANYBODY can really replace Steve Perry. He has a charisma and sings with such passion - no way to replace that. I'm just saying that Augeri did a great job. I wish they had stuck with Jeff Scott Soto - that would have been interesting.
bigdaddytrip 6 months ago
@bigdaddytrip seriously? Soto was awful, just plain awful....
jrock2264 5 months ago
@jrock2264 Jeff Scott Soto is an excellent vocalist - just not a good Steve Perry cover-guy. He has the pipes, and the ability to hit the highs, just sounded different. I didn't think of him as a "replacement" Steve Perry at all.
One thing everybody should get over is the "high notes." Steve is a high tenor, yes, and all of his vocals are in that mid to high tenor range, but if you really want to hear HIGH notes and huge range, listen to Judas Priest. (This should start a nice war)
bigdaddytrip 5 months ago
This is actually a really good song. It's unfortunate that Steve Augeri couldn't have stayed with the band longer. Everyone wants to ride him for trying to copy Perry but who wouldn't give the opportunity to front Journey. Augeri did a great job and deserves props for it.
areasmith 6 months ago 2
They are always chasing after a clone of Steve, but find it. It is better to repair a broken relationship, then chasing the ghost of what once was and never will be.
whimsicalocean 6 months ago 2
Steve Augeri is not Steve Perry. Steve Augeri is Steve Augeri. Don't compare the two. They're both amazing.
Monkeychild41 7 months ago 20
@Monkeychild41 Thank you :) Augeri is not a Perry Clone and never tried to be and anyone who thinks so is a real dumbass and needs to do their rock research and go find his 1st album with Tall Stories and his albums with Tyketto. He had a tenor voice but he wasn't tryin to exactly emulate Perry like Arnel does now.

ITS SAD.

ulsterthistle 7 months ago
@ulsterthistle When the legal dispute over the band broke out, they thought they had Perry legally restrained from using the band name or material, HOWEVER, Perry had done the same to Neil Schon. SO, Schon got most of the band together and they formed Bad English and John Waite was the lead. Now Schons whole issue was the front man stealing the glory. Now with Bad English IT HAPPENED AGAIN.They were known as John Waites band.Thats also what happened with Augeri.Schon has a huge ego, it killed them

@kimknerr90 if you look at all the bands that have replaced singers, they've all tried to find similar replacements. it's a shame people are so close minded to change, most of those people probably missed out on Arrival, arguably one of Journeys best albums, because it wasn't done with Perry. Arnel is good, and the albums they've put out with him are good, I personally wish they could have continued with Augeri...
wcrew97 5 months ago
Perry left Journey. Even *Perry* acknowledged in a recent interview that he's not going back. Journey moved on; "journey" implies change. It's been over 15 years since Perry left. Us fans need to get over it. Journey HAS gone on, and they're still Journey. They existed before Steve Perry; they're still going on after. Folks who continue to post the "Journey isn't Journey" BS are scared of change, to the point that they're still trolling their idiocy 15 years later. Get over it already.

I thought Augeri was probably the best "replacement" for Steve Perry. Much better than than the rest including Pineda. But...it's not Steve Perry..and this was a good album for it's place. And it could be me and they are older but...they just don't seem like they're enjoying themselves on stage (particularly Shon and Cain) like they did back in the Escape Tour days.

at least with Augeri the band did new music , adding Jack Blades to write some music .The new singer Arnel Pineda and the band are riding the coat tails of The awesome Perry Era
clan7511 1 year ago

RyuTairen 1 year ago
@RyuTairen Journey picked Pineda for a reason. They picked him because his voice sounded ALMOST the same as Steve Perry.
cjdstruction1 1 year ago
@cjdstruction1 I'm inclined to disagree. Deen Castronovo's voice is MUCH better than Arnel Pineda's, even while playing the drums. Arnel Pineda has a weird accent, and cuts all his notes short when he does live. He can't even hit the high notes in Wheel in the Sky. He can't sing Mother, Father, that's why they have Deen Castronovo sing AND drum it at the SAME time. I don't know why they don't fire arnel and just have Deen do it all...he does anyway.
RyuTairen 1 year ago 2
@RyuTairen yeah well, journey just like to have a lead singer.
cjdstruction1 1 year ago
@cjdstruction1 I guess that's true..I mean all their success came from a lead singer. They didn't have a lead the first couple years they were a band, and they almost had to disband until Herbie got them a lead singer.
Maybe Journey wouldn't be the same without a front man..but I still think it's not the same with THIS front man..
RyuTairen 1 year ago
@RyuTairen And you're incorrect there. Look, we have a choice. Journey with a new singer who is (and it's just a fact, so suck it up) absolutely awesome, Or we can have no Journey at all. Personally I don't want to live in a world without Journey.
mmyt6767 1 year ago
@mmyt6767 That's not a fact, that's an opinion. A fact is he cuts all his notes short. A fact is he's a sound-alike, the fact that he's a good singer remains, but "Good enough" doesn't cut it when it comes to Journey. Not for me, anyway. I still watch live sessions to watch Deen Castronovo and Neil Schon mostly, even Steve Augeri was a little short of "good enough". I just have high expectations of the best band in the world is all.
RyuTairen 1 year ago
@RyuTairen That the kid has an awesome voice is a fact. I'm sorry if that bothers your sensibilities, but it is indeed a fact. Maybe you would be happier if they all just sat back and never wrote, sang, or toured again. Anyway, nothing we say here is going to change the fact that they have a new lead singer and whether you like him as much or not, he's still making loads of money for the voice he has.
mmyt6767 1 year ago
@mmyt6767 Sure, he has an awesome voice. But he uses it wrongly to copy off others (Which he does in several bands), can't make his own music, and makes loads off others' music.
Yeah he's good, but making loads of money by copying people isn't my idea of honor, prestige or any other just cause. Just because you're probably Filipino doesn't mean we all have to like him. Races shouldn't make a difference..I know he got a lot of support because of that.
RyuTairen 1 year ago
@RyuTairen Then why did you bring race up? And by the way...I'm NOT Fillipino. You're assuming things which is wrong to start out with. Do you ever Karaoke? Do you ever get paid for it? He's making a living and if you don't like him, then don't listen to him. Meanwhile, those of us who can accept change are going to love the HELL out of having them making music again.
mmyt6767 9 months ago
@mmyt6767 Do you really have to drag the conversation on longer? After 3 months you respond again? I brought race up because it SHOULDN'T matter, and it DOES matter. And a lot of people who DO like him ARE Filipino. <.< For the record, they don't hardly make music anymore. They just play what they have since 5 years ago. They have HALF an album of new songs. Couldn't even do a full one. Why? Because apparently they don't like change either. Food for thought.
~Sev
RyuTairen 9 months ago
@RyuTairen Just so you know, I don't check on this thing with ANY regularity. And you made the assumption that I was Fillipino. And I still don't see what that has to do with anything. Look, the bottom line is this: They still have made more money than either of us put together. If you don't like them, don't listen. And with that, I'm done with this convo.
mmyt6767 8 months ago
@RyuTairen Well, I don't see Steve coming back, so enjoy what's being put out now, or continue to listen to the old stuff. There's LOTS of choices in this world.

@skifan07 They might have, but i think Augeri had throat problems, which is why they had to replace him
Also, Arnel's developing his own style. If you listen to the new album, eclipse, Arnel is really singing how he wants to sing.
