We just had this at our house tonight in Virginia during the snowstorm. So cool! We thought it was a transformer as well, but definitely lightning!

i saw the green/blue flash too!! i also live in Sterling, and our power went out a few times.

It happened 14 times within about an hour. The entire sky lit up. We thought it was a transformer at first, but many other people in northern VA captured the same thing on film so I don't think it was.
