I think your omission of the bass line at the beginning really didn't help: that's what makes Killer Joe. The solos are really good though! Really mellow yet inventive...

I played this today at a concert and i play Tenor Sax. My part at the start goes:

B flat then A flat while the Trumpets and Altos carry the melody. FUN AS!
