she certainly looks better than an oboe. the director of the cheap video must agree. she doesn't sound better. there are songs that don't need to be ruined by lyrics. she has a beautiful voice. this song doesn't suit it.

Secondly, although I quite like this version of the song, I wonder who's idea it was to write new lyrics for this version? There are already lyrics written for Gabriel's Oboe , the song is called Nella Fantasia. Look up the version by Katherine Jenkins on YT, it's truly amazing! That said, I am not that cynical, I promise! I love Hayley's version of the song, it's very beautiful and it gives me shivers. I still wish she'd had a better producer on this album, though.

@InvincibleIronyMan And who told you "Nella Fantasia" was the official vocal arrangement for "Gabriel's Oboe"? Nella Fantasia was a song written by Sarah Brightman literally using the instrumental arrangement, after begging Morricone number of times, and in the end Morricone letting her use it, but with no interest of his own. He didn't care abt the result. But now, Morricone himself made a vocal arrangement for Gabriel's Oboe, and encouraged Hayley to write lyrics. This is the original version.

I say this with the greatest respect, because Hayley has a wonderful voice, but that brings me to the first problem: Like a lot of Hayley's releases this a terribly overproduced (though this is not the worst offender) and production like this doesn't do justice to her lovely, natural-sounding voice. Compare with how it sounds in the wonderfully arranged and produced Bridal Ballad by Jocelyn Pook on the Merchant of Venice OST. To be continued...

@InvincibleIronyMan Besides of the Nella Fantasia thing that has been already explained, I don't think this was overproduced. I love Bridal Ballad too, and I notice the difference, but here we have a 120 piece orchestra, Sinfonietta di Roma, personally conducted by Ennio Morricone, who is also the producer of Paradiso. It sounds magnificent, and it was meant to. It is a Hayley and Ennio album, so I think Ennio wanted to give as much importance to the orchestra as to Hayley's vocals.

I love this song. It's so beautiful and emotional with a tune that I love. I'm a bit dissapointed with the video, though. Hayley is beautiful, but they could really do more than just have her in 2 different dresses posing in a hotel room and on top of a building. I like to look at her, but there comes a point when I want her to be doing something. Not about 20 different twirls with cuts for every one of them. They could have made a more interesting video. Hayley is wonderful, though.

@Sapphire848 I agree with you, totally. The video is quite banal and shows a very superficial side of Hayley, and Hayley has so much more inside that ir'a iincredible how they did this... Even more, they failed even in the attempt to make the video spectacularly beautiful and glamurous, there are much more beautiful places in Rome than a hotelroom. And the editting is horrible too, they cut the scenes too much,it gives a feeling that the scenes are even more unconnected.

@chromaticsummer Oh, yes, you can find it searching "Wuthering Heights Hayley Westenra", the video with HQ in the titlle, the one with Hayley singing around in a castle. I m not sure, but I think it was distributed as an extra with a Wuthering Heights single, and the video also appeared sometimes on ClassicFM television.

I would say Both Sides Now is exactly the same as this Paradiso video, a music video recorded and used by the label to promote the albums. I think Wuthering Heights was originally intended to go with the single, but it also is a way of promotion, also by the label, and even mor, the video did appear on music channels like ClassicFM tv. So, if "Official video" is a video used by the label for promotion, all of them are official.

@chromaticsummer Well, yes, as you can see, Both Sides Now has been uploaded by HayleyWestenra's official account, so it is clearly official... Wuthering Heights isn't uploaded on Youtube by the official channels, so you could say its use on Youtube isn't official, but the video itself is, because it was used both in the single and in some media, and this uses were obviously coming from Decca.
