The original singer, the one who sang it on the film is Shirley Horn. Awesome Song, amazing Voice. This one is a very nice version as well, a great talented lady.
Shame that Rita faded into obscurity while mediocres like say, Joni James, attracted the marketing money (MGM). Possibly Rita sang too "white" for the comfort of the day.
I think you're right. She sang it for the film. When I first saw the movie, prior to the opening titles, I thought it was the Mama'a and Papa's For the Love of Ivy, which is great, but I found another wonderful song. This is so pretty.
@kinddude Actually a wonderful singer named Shirley Horn sang it over the credits. and it was quite an adorable little movie. I think I was about 16 when this movie came out.WOW! Time is flying!
@early60srcool - Abbey Lincoln played Ivey, which is why I originally asked who sang the original. Then I watched the final credits of the movie and saw it was Shirley who sang and posted a later comment. You were no doubt responding to my first comments! Thanks for being so helpful!

I love Rita Moss. She desapeared completely. Allmusic guide say nothing about her. Could someone tell me something about? Where's Rita?

Love this piece. Thank you for posting. I believe it was originally sung by Abbey Lincoln?
