  • Someone should do a Tesla Coil version of Nikola Tesla by Amanda fucking Palmer.

  • i am just going to say one thing: WANT

  • They should totally play MegaMan songs on those things...

  • Can someone give a list of all of the songs played here?

  • What's the melody thats played in the beginning and again at 8:00?

  • Better than GaGa

  • @kecs2 lol you mean so awesome it makes people gaga. =P

  • this is so amazing!! :D

  • AMAZING!!!

  • whats the song that starts at 7:27 ? anybody?

  • rock on with the tesla music....do some Metallica next time ;) At least some GNR.

  • viva la tesla coil

    YAY WE'RE DOOMED

  • bugzaper delux!

  • Can anyone tell me what the first little melody is, if its an actual song or original composition for the Coils? I feel like I've heard it or something similar, and i wish to hear the original, if it exists. It's from the beginning till about 2:00 before the World 1-1. If anyone knows, please message me.

  • @celudoc the first melody is the "mario theme tune" (a franchise created by nintendo, and played on ALL nintendo game consoles)!

  • thats fatal right? (dont call me stupid)

    im thinking thats a yes?

  • Hell yeah it's fatal.

But not unless you have the famous aluminum suit.

  • kk..btw i asked that question a month ago, which i nearly have forgotten about lol

  • tesla coils operate at very high voltage. a large amount of voltage can safely pass through the human body, as long as the amperage is in the milliamp range

  • it will burn u and hurt lik hell, but it wont kill unless u stay long enough. the volts wont kill but the amps will. tesla coils hav low amperage, in fact not even 1 amp. its lik static electricity. high voltage low amperage wont kill u.

  • ok...but whats the difference between amp and volt? i know volt measures how strong the electricity is but dunno about amp.

  • Thing of it like water in a pipe volts is like how much water is in the pipe and amps is like how fast it's moveing.

  • k thanks

  • ya but its backwards

  • and we where told not to mix water with electricity. lol

  • hey he got it backwards volts is pressure and amps r the water. think of it lik this, u mush hav enough volts to push the amps, thats y theres always more volts. no amps no juice.

  • ok thanks again =) sorry for the inconvenience

  • I can verify that. I've stood on a smaller tesla coil, and a six inch long spark burns like a red hot needle. Fortunately, the sparks don't stick around, so if you got too close and got zapped, you could crawl away between sparks. The moths attracted to the sparks aren't so lucky. I did read about one guy who got killed by his tesla coil, though, so I guess they could kill you, especially the really big ones.

  • I wish I could hook up my coil to do that, but I don't know how. It'd be sweet to having a singing coil instead of one that just buzzes

  • where did you learn to make one? university ordidyou teach yourself?

  • I taught myself from some videos and books I found. Of course when I get to college I plan on learning more about them and making a bigger one.

  • what is the music from at 5:44?

  • tetris

  • That will keep those pesky kids off the damn lawn!

  • WOW!!. Going to make one. How much does it cost (roughly) to buy parts/find parts and assemble anyone?

  • Tesla coils make me happy!!! *sadistic grin*

  • holy shit this is awesome

  • Even though the operation is simple, unfortuantly building at these extreme voltages does pose a lot of problems. Building one sure is not easy at all.

  • I love these machines, quite simple in operation even. The tesla resonates at it's spescific frequency, usually somwhere in the many kHz.If left on continually it just makes a shit load of noise. Now they entered digital cirquitry to switch these tesla's on and off very quickly and then influence the speed of going on and off. This way they control the frequency of how many times per second you actually hear the noise. This is percepted by us as a tone. It's also known as PWM modulation.

  • are there instructions anywhere on how to build one (or two) of these?

  • couldn`t that be the next type of music? maybe in 5years everybody wants to have a teslacoil-hifi-teslatic thing at home!

    I want!!!

  • IF YOU WANT THIS IN SUPER HIGH QUALITY ENTER &fmt=18 after the regular video code (no &feature=related, just delete that part). THIS WILL INCREASE THE SOUND QUALITY TOO!!

  • roughly how loud are these in db?

  • 110 db is what I've heard.

  • FADO!!!!!!

  • You're fucking stupid.

  • Your camera is weird. The framerate seems to drop as the light increases.

Anyway, great video. Good representations of the songs on the coils. Except maybe the "in the tunnel" song from Mario (or whatever it's called). Sounds kinda awkward with both coils doing it at once. Try just the high pitched one.

    One more thing: more Tetris.

  • That SMB music is funny!!!!

  • different frequencies produce the different sounds you hear.

  • cool vid. 5 stars.

can somebody write the songlist plz?

  • i think it would be cool to hear the Mortal Kombat theme on these things. that would be schweet!!!! and it sounds awesome. where did you find these and how much were they? id like to play around with some

  • how about metroid prime or sonic the headgehog.

  • That is cool.

What is the first song played???

  • The sound is indeed coming from the sparks - BUT they tell the it what noise to make w/ the sparks via a midi file or keyboard or something like that.

  • Very nice.

Whats the song at 8 mins of?

  • same as the one at the start of the vid

  • Um, that's not midi....that,s electricity snapping.

  • yes the electricity reacting in the air makes the sound itself. but the system itself can only play MIDI files. no MP3s or some such.

  • sounds quite good ^_^

  • To the creator: I think it'd be cool if you played Bach - toccato and fugue and Verdi - Dies irae. perhaps some smash Bros. music would be appropriate also. And for the guitar heroes out there, some Dethklok - thunderhorse.

i don't mean to come off as that guy who makes tons of requests from the dj, but i just think it would be cool to see/hear some of those songs via Tesla coil.

And congrats on being awesome at life.

  • it can only play midi files

  • What is that first and last segment called? (its the same)

  • Seriously, I'd like to know too.

  • How do they control what sound the device makes?

  • Midi.

  • IDK, but a midi keyboard would be awesomely insane.

  • im watching this for the first time during a lightning storm...

    I love it

  • Chulísimo !!!

  • Am I confused, or is the music that starts around 7:22 from the game Magi-Nation?

'Cause it sounds a lot like it.

  • Holy shit. I didn't think anyone else had heard of that game!

  • i am now even MORE confused as to how and why tesla coils work. lol

  • I think basically what it does is take the normal frequency of a tesla coil (usually pretty high) and start and stop the power to it so that so much that it makes a sound we recognize. For example, I think a possible frequency could be 20,000Hz. They can start and stop it per second 500 times to get a sound of 400Hz. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • electric music > electronic music

  • TOTALLY!!It sounds awesome!!!!

  • Sounds too good to be true.

Usually when lightning strikes, there is a flash of light that shows up at ground level. And I think the grass would light up in flames. But I might be wrong.

  • Lightning is different to tesla.

  • how does tesla work thn? I thought it would be electricity and lightning is electricity.

  • Lightning is much more powerful, as it involves a much larger discharge of electricity. If you see the video, there are 2 rods sticking out of the ground, which absorb most of the electricity. Its so it doesn't flail wildly everywhere, especially at people. Also, when lightning causes fires, its usually due to dried/flammable stuff nearby, which isn't present here.

  • Well, basically it's both electricity. But lightning is several hunders of millions of volts with thousands of amperes. A teslacoil can generate around a million volts both at a (relatively) low amperage. That doesn't mean though you want to be hit by it.

When lightning strikes the ground the soil will be subjected to the exteme heat generated, this might cause dry objects to burst into flames (grass, trees, houses).

  • Massive geek cred to the builders.

    Twin-coil Zeusaphone FTW!

  • You should feed these bad boys some Tool MIDI files. Heck, they might even hire you guys to perform on stage during intermission.

  • what do I have to do to get a track listing, I couldn't figure out the first (also last) tracks but I know I've heard them before.

  • I wonder if they'll let me play that in band

  • If there ever was an Epic Musical Instrument, this is it!!
