  • This was one of the sappiest, silliest, most inane shows ever on television.

  • I have an identical cousin...For reals...True Story ;)

  • "A hot dog makes her lose control..."

...for God's sake don't add mustard.

  • Wow she had such a pretty smile.

  • Patty Duke is now dealing with bipolar disorder and was in my

town recently to talk about her experiences with a local organization that

provides employment to those with handicaps of various kinds.

  • What a lame idea for a show, that probably made some people good bucks in the 60's.

  • yeah umm themrdouchebag2000 she's in her 60's now, and married. and would never want anything to do with your digusting ass. so fuck you

  • Zanzibar means the Nazis have raised the bar -- so you better listen to Joaquin Phoenix in the movie Earthlings and stop eating flesh and dairy. Joaquin is captain of the V for Victory Phoenix UFO. As for circus and rodeo folks, your goose is cooked. The Godfather movies tell you that they will come after what you love. All the recent murders and massacres prove that.

  • 12 people don't know great tv when they see it :)

  • "Cookies, crackers and everything good to eat". Commercials were so simple back then. LOL!

  • What a blast from the past !!! , Thank you for posting !!! Damn , how time flys !!!

  • I'd like to learn more about this NA-BIS-CO. They sound groovy.

  • @evad41 It stands for NAtional BIScuit COmpany. The letters NBC were on many of their cookie & cracker products. But, because the abbreviation became so MUCH MORE associated with the National Broadcasting Company, they changed to the popular acroynm circa 1954. Check it out

  • nick at nite SUX!!! Bring back classic TV shows!!!

  • 11 people lost their minds

  • PT 3 see notes below: Kathy then ran away from home because she didn't want to eat anymore butter-based sauces and tracked down Patty by bribing hospital staff, due to an exceptional example of recovered memory. I hope this clears things up.

  • PT 2 see note below: A visiting Frenchman who had an emergency gallbladder removal while on his way to JFK adopted one of them and returned to Paris where he forced Kathy to eat crepes suzette and attend ballet performances. Patty was placed in foster care at an early age, but was rescued from a life of when her adoptive mother saw her on the street crying and whisked her away. The hot dog issue here is disburbing, but unclear.

  • Regarding the issue of identical cousins: this is obviously a smokescreen. They're obviously identical twins conceived and born in Brooklyn. The mother and father left them in the hospital.

  • I loved growing up with these old shows, unlike the reality show garbage they have on TV these days.

  • Bruce Bilson? Any relation to current actress Rachel Bilson? Meanwhile, I just now noticed a major blooper in the Patty theme song images, although I've prolly seen it a thousand times over the years. When it's showing the "two different" girls, and the song says "Zanzibar to Barkley Square" or whatever, they're supposed to be showing calm "Kathy," but instead they're showing partying Patty - oops! You can always tell, since Kathy's hair is combed in towards her jaw, but Patty's flips out, man!

  • @themredweirdoshow She's Bruce's granddaughter

  • @themredweirdoshow He's her grandfather.

  • Jeanne Byron was such a classy lady.

  • Damn...nick at nite...great memories indeed.....

  • the bad lyrics makes this soooooo good

  • If this show had gone on one more season, it would have been in color.

  • Patty Duke was kind of cute actually...

  • @ShaolinDynasty Seeing the old reruns on ThisTV (it comes on at 5 AM Central time on my ThisTV affiliate WLBT-TV digital Channel 3.3), Nick at Nite, and CBN (Now ABC Family Channel), I think the best looking Patty and Cathy were from the first (1963-64) season. I know time hasn't been kind to Patty's looks (Off screen she now goes by her birth name Anna Marie), but she had been through a lot with nerve problems and I'd rather see her like she is now than in a coffin anyday.

  • Like the "Flying Nun and Gidget", Sally Field and Patty Duke go on to win Academy Awards on the big screen. Being the only boy amongst three older sisters and only one TV set in the household, I fought and scratched to watch my Combat, Rifleman and Rat Patrol.

  • What a cooky pair of kids.

  • This show got me into so much trouble, while this show was on, I happened to change schools and came across twin sisters. Call it transferance or what ever became totally infatuated with one of them and this show is a constant reminder of that.

  • @AmericanPowerBase One pair of matching bookends, different as night and day....

  • @AmericanPowerBase Tru daht mah Bruvah! <3

  • OMG!!! this bring back memories I remember when i was little me & my mom use to watch the Patty Duke show every night on nickolodeon nick @ nite

  • Where all mah seksay niggaz at?

  • Wow. I've never seen a rerun of this. So seeing this intro is really a time machine for me. Thanx.

  • they're cousins, identical cousins!

  • I remember the spit screening on the Brady Bunch in the episode "two Petes in a pod" where Peter meets his twin Arthur Owens in the hallway at school. Then Arthur

goes to the Brady house fools everyone. In looking up the episode on IMDB In looking up the guest cast, I was sadden to read Kathy O"Dare who played

Michelle whom Peter was taking to the masquerade party passed away last July in S.Calif.

  • As a seven year-old kid, I couldn't figure out for the life of me how Patty could play two people in the same scene. My older brother told me it was done with mirrors!

  • @akwaqs They do it by cutting the film in half and splicing it back together. That is why when you see Patty and Cathy in the same scene there is always a straight line down the center of the scene, like the endge of a piece of furniture or door moulding, or corner, to give the film editor something to go by when matching the two halves back together.

  • There can be identical brothers, identical sisters, but... last I checked nobody could explain how there could be identical COUSINS. Legally speaking, since only a direct sibling could be identical, they're both from the same birth mother, so somebody is lying. Why would the mother have one of her daughters being raised by her sister or brother? And even at that, why call her a "cousin"? Makes no sense.

  • @themredweirdoshow The only way I can figure is if two Identical twin brothers married two identical twin sisters, and they both conceived children that were born the exact same day, then theoretically, there could be identical cousins. But the odds of that happening, just on the genetical level, have to be astronomical.

  • @Sms231 Well, since we're delving into some back-engineering of medical science... to even get close to claiming "identical" status, it would also have to: Require not only that both women GIVE BIRTH on the same day (and preferably also within the same hour), but they would also need to have CONCEIVED at the same time, too!

  • And blabblab1212 is an idiot.

  • Obviously adults writing lyrics trying to sound the way a kid would talk. Fails every time.

  • But seriously, why did they write and sing "a hotdog makes her lose control"? If it's supposed to be a double entendre, what is the first meaning? Other than some weak sexual innuendo, why would a hotdog make anyone lose control? I don't get the joke.

  • @MrCook1227 Simply to point out the difference between them. Kathy has a refined taste in music and food while Patty is more common flipping over things like a hot dog.

  • it was 1965,they had to get subliminal with it.So when patty got her head stuck in the plumbing under the sink the audience was left to imagine............well,I'll just leave it at that.Back then you couldn't just make a direct reference to any kind of kinky bondage stuff.

  • There's a Rocko's Modern Life sketch that parodies this open. I've been watching The Patty Duke show at 5 AM; that's the only reason why I was able to link the two.

  • identical COUSINS???

  • I think that all you lonely, sad people out there who have nothing better to do with your life than to make sexually explicit comments about childrens television shows and food need to seek help. I am sure there is free or low-cost counseling available in your city. Please get help now!

  • @Sing4More Oh, lighten up! No. 1 "A hot dog makes her lose control" is mildly sexually suggestive" No. 2 Your assuming the person who joked about the hot dog is lonely and sad, not necessarily true No. 3 It's not a children's show, it was geared toward teenage girls. No. 4 Don't take the moral high ground. It makes you look arrogant, patronizing, Republican & conservative. I'll bet a $50 you voted for George Bush and thought he was a good president.

  • @Sing4More What is it about a sexual comment that you dislike and find offensive? Do you think making sexual comments implies bad manners and poor taste? Do you think that tonguing a throbbing hot clitoris until a girl spastically climaxes is perverse? I'll bet you another $50 that your probably mildly frigid and probably haven't had a decent orgasm in your life. Very sad! Speaking of seeking help......................

  • @blabblab1212 I've actually had a very good sex life with an adult partner not an under-age girl or food.

    God Bless You!

  • @Sing4More Well I guess you put me in my place. God bless you as well.

  • @Sing4More If you ever want to elaborate though. I'm all ears.

  • i'm watching this show right now

  • if memory serves me the theme song was spoofed in rocko's modern life in the first season back in 1993 i believe it was the third episode but anyways i use to watch this show when i was 7 in 1991 and kept watching until i was nine in 1993!

  • i still watch this show on This.tv

  • I used to race home from school to watch the show. Loved the shake shop.

Love the theme, and always thought Patty Duke was the best! Ecellent actress!

  • uuuhhh... a HOTDOG makes her LOSE CONTROL!

  • @mikeg1060 Yea lol. Was it John's or Desi Jr.'s hot dog which drove her crazy?

  • @dcat918 heh, just so long as it wasn't William Schallert's... eeewwww.

  • @mikeg1060 I always assumed it was a dance, like the mashed potato?

  • @mikeg1060 Simpler times, yes?

  • @mikeg1060 ooooooohhhh....she's a nast nasty nasty girl

  • @mikeg1060

Isn't that the way it should be? ;)

  • @mikeg1060 For me too!!!! :D :D

  • @PeterFormaini Hot dogs are the exact same shape and length as the average penis, give or take a Viagra Pill or two. Twilght Zone episode To Serve Man, It's a Cookbook, predicts the Lorena Bobbit severing of all penises, the roots of all evil, for eating animals that root like Wilbur the Pig, plus all creatures great and small.

  • @redfordforpresident - Um, someone needs to remind you of the concept of a 'joke' sometime. [eyeroll]

  • Back when Nick-At-Night was worth watching.

  • @MrCombat1965 Yeah, really! That is sooo true, I used to watch this all the time together with Donna Reed, etc...good times!

  • @MrCombat1965 Yeah, really! That is sooo true, I used to watch this all the time together with Donna Reed, Mr. Ed, My 3 Sons...good times!

  • @MrCombat1965 yeah it sure was and now its not.i miss the patty duke show and donna reed one.

  • @MrCombat1965 "Nick-At-Night".... Pfft, kids.

  • @Hoopermazing Haha.

  • @MrCombat1965 I agree. I used to watch this growing up. When it was on Nick-At-Night. Along with the Brady Bunch, My Three Sons, Green Acres, Mr. Ed, etc.

  • @MrCombat1965 you've got that right...can't tell you the last time I watched TV Land.

  • @MrCombat1965 It's on ThisTV now!

  • @MrCombat1965 I agree!

  • @MrCombat1965

Boy, was that a LONG Time ago

  • "A hot dog makes her lose control".

    Yeah, baby!

  • part 2 Again thank you for your apology. You in fact seem like basically good person. I do understand where you are coming as an english teacher. because i grew up with this dyslexia this is one area I am sensitive to it. maybe to much. but please read the first part of my reply to you apology. below . thanks we can talk TV or movies anytime on here ( :

  • Yes, I do accept and greatly appreciate your apology. thank you. however as an A teacher English or otherwise, if you are going to make corrections please remember to do it nicely and constructively. In here of the classroom of life. If you see in the last message I did apologize for my typos in advance. I am dyslexic and really put in an effort to post the way i did. I had to use A spell checker in fact.

please note disabilities do exist. I do see you have class.[ no pun intended teacher] lol

  • what an adorable little actress.

  • I got yer hotdog right here, ya bipolar bitch!

  • I love that Shout Factory has released all three seasons of The Patty Duke Show but they could have left the open title sequence intact. I don't know why they cut the announcer saying; The Patty Duke Show, brought to you by? Like this clip here on Youtube, they could have had this sponsor clip on the DVD Extras portion. Shout missed the boat on this one...but thanks again for releasing the entire series.

  • My only regret is that I was not getting high when this show was on.

  • I like this show. However what sort of ticks me off[ years after the fact] is that when then show was still getting reasonable ratings the show was cancelled because most shows after 1965 turned to color and the producers of the show did not want to pay more to produce color episodes. talking about cheap. I think the show would have looked good color in future seasons. yes even then it was all about the money. the TV executives were greedy. with only 3 networks they did not have to take chances

  • @carrychris2010 As a postscript, Patty Duke wrote in her memoirs that when United Artists vetoed the decision to switch to color, it may have been intended as a ploy to get ABC to cough up more money. Needless to say, the gamble didn't work.

  • @ChristianTVArchive Thanks Christian for that info. I was not aware of that. all I can say as an outside perspective all shows or just about turned color in 1966 . if indeed what you and patty say happen. exemplifies how corporate greed [ even in this case maybe not by the networks but united artists and their ploy . better to turn it into color and the bottom line still I believe would have been good and [although not known about at the time] the show would have benefited in that respect

  • @ChristianTVArchive part 2 of first reply. BTW thanks A Million for this info. it was immensely helpful and changed who I thought was to blame. thanks for educated me on this. ^5

  • @carrychris2010 part 3. sorry if this is out of order. My typos and limited space on here . I sort of miscommunicated something. when I said the show would have ultimately benefited in the bottom line . not just for the seasons viewing.. I also said "[although not known at the time]" I mean syndication in the future would have benefited from this turn to color. hence more money further down the line and more entertainment for us.. sorry for my blunder and thanks for responding.

  • This was back when a phrase like "a hot dog makes her lose control" would not be considered pornographic. I used to have to watch this show against my will. My older sister was in charge of the TV.

  • @frank47hammer Amen I use to hate being the younger child!

  • @Jimmy8317 haha, I also had to watch the Flying Nun. It is was either that or bedtime.

  • I could have a terrific sexual fantasy about PATTY!....

  • i used to sing this in elementary school all the time

  • i love this show!! :D

  • Patty Duke is cute ! Always did think so, but maybe not as much as Sally Field, or Marlo Thomas..but cute is cute !

  • Nickatnite FTW

  • oh gosh michael buckley sent me

  • Who sang the theme song? Was it the same voices that sang the Flintstones theme?

  • @TnseWlms Sid Ramin wrote the theme, I assume it was just an assemble.

  • A Hot Dog makes her 'lose control'! !

  • I kinda like this show but "identical cousins"? Yeah, right.

  • @kpmac1 ,

Ever see Elvis in "Kissing Cousins"?

  • @kpmac1 Check out the others shows on TV later in the 60's and you'll think this show makes sense (Gilligan's Island and I dream of Jeannie, for example). Plus it starred an Oscar winner!

  • OUR PATTY LIKES TO ROCK AND ROLL; A HOT DOG MAKES HER LOSE CONTROL. ENOUGH SAID:)

  • It's hard to watch this now, having read Patty Duke's autobiography "Call Me Anna." She was so incredibly miserable and depressed and treated rotten during the making of this show.

  • not the original vocals. why???

  • @eryops56 There were two distinct versions of the shows theme made. Continue to look on YT for additional intros for this show. Even the music and vocal arrangements are vastly different.

  • I thought this was different from what I remember! Of course it's been at least 35 years since I saw it on reruns!!

  • @splendidcakes This is a different version. Don't know if it was changed during its run

  • @sub40 This is the theme from the 3rd and final season, they had a different theme for each season but same tune and lyrics.

  • @sub40 gotcha and thanks

  • I think I've heard this sung by ALF in the episode where he was looking for his cousin Blinky out in Barsto, California(which it was also the episode where Willie was coming close to getting high by sniffing asbestos)

    Just saying.

  • hey bastard ! are you fukin nuts?

  • Loved this show! and whatever happened to American television ???

    Its a crime !

  • cutest show. wish the world could be like it was back then.

  • thank you thats all i'm going to say

  • Kids used to like Hot Dogs grow up

  • I watched this one as a little girl and love it thanks for the post.

  • '...A hot dog makes her lose control...'? :O I thought they had powerful TV censors working full time back then for them to miss a super salacious (not in any way phallic or coital in the spirit of, or referenced to therein, really) SEXY TIDBIT like that! ZOUNDS!

Wow, that is still kinda HOT!....

    Identical....in EVERY way you say?...

    How much for the pair?

No, just by the hour, and I'm gonna need a hot dog street vendors cart! STAT!

  • they changed the rythm from swing to rock in this recording. the earlier 1 was swing, much better imho

  • Patty Duke was freakin' hot. Too bad she was bonkers for most of her life.

  • @loonmaniac Yeah, but being Manic Depressive, in the 70's especially, was torture on her. Poor girl. But if there actually IS an actress that deserves respect it's PATTY DUKE. With all of the people she has helped over the last 30 years in raising awareness of mental illness and inspiring those with it to keep on enjoying their lives. I will ALWAYS be a fan of her's.

  • a hotdog makes her loose control?

  • Well, back then, sexually suggestive humor was on cocktail napkins, not TV, and people liked it that way.

  • Yessss, what does that mean, exactly?

  • Ohhh man I just went back 48 years !!! man what a rush...... My life just past me by, it sucks getting old although watching this shows makes it much more easier to escape reality for just a few minutes... :)

  • At :38 in this video, the lyrics say "a hotdog makes her loose control." Ahh....what does that mean?

  • @pnull So does a well grilled Bratwurst.

  • @pnull ,

You couldn't get away with that lyric today. Not on network TV.

  • TenStarsplus !!! Man did I ever love this show!!! Patty is the same age as my wife and I was totally flipped out over her!!! She was such a hot babe, and I imagine about ten million guys my age back then felt the same way too!!!! By the way, why didn't they show the Olde Engllsh Sheep Dog that used to gallop down the stairs??? I missed seeing him because it added to the hillarity of the show!!!!!!!!!!!thanks for posting this gem from my youth !!!!!!!!

  • Nick at NIte is too hip now. So many new shows and not enough like this.

  • Man, I always had a crush on Patty Duke when I was watching this show in reruns as a kid.

  • Some say that Patty Duke's bipolar disorder allowed her to more accurately play two characters simultaneously.

  • LOL @ hot dog comment

  • downloads//download

  • "A hot dog makes her lose control"?? What I want to know is what exactly is in those hot dogs??

  • Batteries ? What a wild Duet!!!

  • @bluecatky lol, or what she's DOING with the hot dog ;)

  • @bluecatky lol, or what she's DOING with the hot dog ;)

  • @bluecatky Of course this rationale of thinking was non existant..just like in The Flintstones theme.."Well have a gay old time"

  • @bluecatky Of course this rationale of thinking was non existant..just like in The Flintstones theme.."Well have a gay old time"

  • i love the patty duke show it is an all time favorite and i hope to see it everyday and more on channel 5. daniel boseman

  • what ever happened to the actress who played her cousin cathy?

  • @thewayilook2night Patty Duke played both parts.

  • are you stupid?

  • That was Patty Duke, who was both Patty and Cathy Lane.

  • Ah, nostalgia! The opening sequence with Patty stuck under the sink gave me one of my first woodies!

  • you sick fuck

  • Where Cathy adores a minuet, The Ballets Russes, and crepe suzette, our Patty loves to rock and roll, a hot dog makes her lose control -- What a wild duet! I thought this show was so cool.

  • I remember watching

this on Nick when I was younger. I kinda miss it. I would like it if Nick would put it on DVD charbra08.

  • Stop lying you dumb mongo retard.

  • Why is this any of your concern

    stp1429?

  • You watch your mouth you mongo retard.

  • Its on THIS TV. Comes on at 5:30 AM, though.

  • @TomRoykouffVideos I was not quite a teen when the show came out. I enjoyed watching it. I agree with you. I wish Nick would put it on DVD.

  • MY hot dog makes her lose control.

  • It comes on the this network.

  • After all these years I finally woke up to the premise of this show.

The British cousin has plenty of class and is super intelligent..

The American one ----No Class! and is also pretty stupid.

Why couldn't it be the other way around?

Cathy could have been a foul-mouthed ueber-slutty ladette from London.

And Patty could have been a real prim & proper American girl straight from a Catholic nuns' indoctrination program and the plot could have revolved around who becomes a single mother first.

  • @BastardfromtheBush Kathy was supposed to Scottish, not British.

  • @BastardfromtheBush The show was also introduced during the so called rock and roll British invasion. John Lennon was a subversive element to America and scorned our culture and traditions. It has been said Britain never forgot the revolutionary war. Propaganda is a very powerful tool and brings nations to their knees. It sounds crazy but maybe that British Petroleum disaster in the gulf was sabotage.

  • @xxdonaldqxx Lennon was of Liverpool-Irish descent and during his life-time, he said all sorts of crazy things.

He grew to love NYC so much that he fought Nixon tooth & nail not to get deported... and won! Anti-English sentiment comes & goes in the U.S. You couldn't talk to the first 6 Presidents about Brits without them frothing at the mouth. We felt we were 'tricked' into getting into WW I by them. Yet, we are joined at the hip because we speak their lingo & our Laws and Govt. is theirs.

  • @BastardfromtheBush ,

Sure, if it's ever remade for Brit TV.

  • @BastardfromtheBush LOL, thank you for that

  • @BastardfromtheBush well Actally the cousen cathy was scottesh. But the sterotype of that time, when most of us of the UK as prim and proper worked for this show. patty attending a cathlic school would have been pretty boring for the show and not much hijinks. as well as the two cousans would not be able to interact the same way in that School. as far asroll single mother. that was unhread of on tv in those days. look at murpy brown and what crap that show took for doing that.

  • @carrychris2010 You're right! When "The Patty Duke Show" aired on TV. I thought all British people were very pukka and had no sense of humor. Then I lived in London & other parts of southen England for a few years and met characters who would make your hair curl and British people DO have a sense of humor and it is outrageous! After looking at U.S. sit-coms all these years; I'd say we don't have a sense of humor or if we do, it is childish and weak. In fact, pretty pathetic.

  • @carrychris2010 Doesn't anybody know how to compose a sentence these days? Brush up on your English, knucklehead!

  • @louisa1832 fortunately most people have manners. All I can say is you need to brush up on yours.

  • @louisa1832 I am no hero on here but I never felt it necessary to cut down or degrade anyone for any reason. respect of others and their feelings and manners are important. I may Be A "Knucklehead" for thinking this, but then again I can't boast the Giant mentality behind your reply. As not to feed into and flow with your low classless self. I will end my correspondence with you. >yawn<
