  • Congratulations...you actually made me enjoy listening to the sound of a soprano sax. A feat not easily performed. Yes, I, a sax major cannot stand soprano saxes, lol.

  • where can you get this music from?/???? i really wanna do and ensamble like this

  • @asinhawkeye0065 hey Johnny, its me mitchell. And i have some of the sheet music to this. Bob gave it to us at sax camp. i can get the rest of this sometime by talking to German

  • Beautiful!!! :'D

  • This made me realize (combined with another sax performance I heard live) that the saxophone is probably THE most underrated instrument in the world. Different pitches sound like different instruments. It's an Oboe in the middle, a flute down low, and a trumpet up high...Amazing.

  • my life is officially complete. Favorite song+favorite instruments=love!

  • Gorgeous. This gave me goosebumps.

  • Beautiful!

  • any chance you could do this same thing on The Seal Lullaby? You have a beautiful baritone saxophone sound too! I play tenor as my primary, baritone as my secondary, prefer to stay away from alto and soprano. Like i said, beautiful playing and i would love to hear you play The Seal Lullaby, it is my favorite Whitacre piece=]

  • I always had the desire to do this but not the recording equipment! Great job on it as well

  • Glad you did it on different saxophones instead on one type :)

  • hey mr esson. great sola. i am proud to say you are my tacher

  • ... Yup, it's confirmed, I shall pick up sax. This was the most beautiful thing I have heard From a saxophone, <3 I love the different colours from each of them, from Bari - soprano, Just beautiful and amazing <3

  • I went to your recital tonight, and I thought it was absolutely lovely and brilliant! I was telling all of my friends how gorgeous your playing is, and one of them actually heard you before and pointed me to your youtube. You're such a fantastic player. You're an inspiration to all musicians!

  • When someone hears the word "sax" their mind immediately shifts to jazz; not this jaw dropper!

  • Ahh suspensions everywhere! lol<3

  • Does anyone else feel like he should be playin the theme from the brady bunch right now????

  • Bob, was this for school or just for funsies? oh and I think you sound slightly better than when we attempted this at sax camp. eh maybe more than slightly. except for Bari, that bari player at sax camp was a boss. :) good job man.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • Hey, well done! The overall sound is a bit reedy and bright, but I love the soprano sax. They way it soars over a note without sounding mechanical (3:03) is great.

For kicks, I layered your video on top of my trombone 'Sleep' video and they sound brilliant together!

  • Fantastic, I'd try this sans vibrato though. It should mesh better :)

I see you use the Optimum mouthpieces?

  • Wow, I have never really liked the sound of a Sax until this video, absolutely gorgeous!

  • @WhiteNitE521 Haha, well I'm glad to change your mind :)

  • @WhiteNitE521 If you think this is gorgeous you havn't heard much of what a saxophone can sound like. This is rather mediocre acually. If you have started like "the sound of the sax" listening to this you should listen to music where the saxophone really can show off, such as Jazz, blues and funk! =)

  • @Chirpingler Excuse my rudeness, but how on earth do you find this to be "mediocre"? It takes an extremely talented musician to be able to control not just one, but every instrument of the saxophone family at such a high level. This is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard!

  • @kenbrack125 Excuse accepted. I believe you think this is beautiful because of the harmonics of the tones put togehter in chords, but the sound form the saxophone itself would I definitively call mediocre. I do not direcly blame the player, the microphone or recording device may not be the best, or it's just low quality on the playback. However, as WhiteNitE521 commented about the sound, and not the combined saxophones together, I would see it strange that he changed his mind listening to this.

  • @Chirpingler I see where you are coming from, but i still find it hard to believe you can call this sound mediocre, that's all I'm trying to say. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this matter. lol

  • Wow. Awesome playing!!

  • I thought you looked familiar. I met you at your grad school audition at Indiana. I was the kid that went to Hebron if you can recall that far back. This is absolutely beautiful playing. Well done!

  • @mrsax13 Of course I remember! Thanks for the wonderful compliment.

  • Is there any way to get this arrangement from you?

  • Uh band camp 2009

  • This is lovely and well done. The range of saxophones give the sound a surprising fullness.

  • WOW. Your control over your instrument is astounding. Fantastic!

  • You wouldn't happen to have the sheet music for this would you?

  • Great playing, very interesting to hear it this way.

  • I found this from Eric Whitacre's Facebook page. :) Really great work. You're incredibly talented.

  • Amazing!! Wonderfully done!

  • Amazing! I was pleasantly surprised. Very pleasantly, and Eric posted this on his facebook so that's pretty cool too!

  • I was not expecting this to work so well but it's beautiful! Really nice playing!

  • Bob, That was extremely beautiful!!

  • Beautiful!

  • nicely done, I came here from Eric's own post

Theres another of his conductor tracks on Youtube for the song Lux Arumque, give that a shot, not as long, and possibly a lot easier than sleep.

  • So beautiful!

  • brilliant! maybe eric would like to try the virtual Saxophone choir ;p

  • Great job!

  • This is amazing. NEVER stop doing what you do.

  • Beautiful!

  • Dude This is great! I played this song as the Ballad in my Sophmore year in high school Marching Band! One of my favorite Whitacre works!

  • I really need to figure out how I can have Eric Whitacre as my mentor.

  • Fantastic!!!

  • Congratulations! Eric Whitacre himself has posted this on hiw Facebook and Twitter pages, great job!

  • AWESOOOOOME!!!!

  • Yeah, Bob! Beautiful!

  • That's absolutely wonderful playing and beautiful composition by Eric Whitacre. Fantastic stuff!

  • @jamesmustafamusic Thanks for the kind words :)
