I heard this for the first time about 2O years ago. Its haunting melody has stayed in my soul since then. It is a lament for the souls lost during battle.
Well she was a Mod Gold Medal winner in her time - they just don't come any better. Why she dumped the Gaelic tradition in favour of pop music is bafling.
But she's back to traditional/celtic/folk music now and better than ever! Her current work with producer Troy Donockley is the best of her long career.
Few artists have done more than Dickson to introduce and enthuse mainstream audiences to traditional music. She is a true star!
what CD is this on & is this the full version? Why sing pop when you can create magic like this...this he most beautiful rendition of anything I've ever heard.
@pipernonie Still only available on two LPs (and tapes maybe), Here We Go and Heartbeats and no, this isn't the full song. There have been more collections and best ofs than you can shake a stick at, but most of the tracks are the same and this one never makes it on for some reason.
Her live concerts are fab, she mixes the celtic stuff with the more popular tracks, havent heard her do this one live but live in hope, have seen her about ten times in the last three years!
proof of the extraordinary voice and talent of Barbara Dickson. Dont think many other singers could even begin to carry off this song unaccompanied like this
I've always loved this song. It's a real shame that the album it's on is still not available on CD, although there's a live version available. Thanks for posting.
This was the song that convinced lots of people that Barbara Dickson's glorious voice was wasted on most of the pop music she was recording in the 1980s
