It does that because the ham is high in sodium. but you still shouldn't feed it to your child. it's got way too much salt.

The reason it happens is because the little chunks of ham have sharp edges which make arcing more likely. Ham has a fairly high salt content which makes it conductive.
The food is perfectly safe and you have nothing to be afraid of.

Very odd. I can see no logical reason for that to happen. Unless ham contains metal and I wasen't told.
