the man from uncle was my favourite tv show i was too young to stay up and watch it so i would devise all sorts of ways to sneak a peek at the show with a spy perescope see around corners thingy etc.. i wanted to be illya kiryaken (yeah i know wrong spelling)
I prefer the original Jerry Goldsmith 5/4 version with the tympani opening and low brass to this one. And it's clear that Lalo Schifrin's "Mission Impossible" theme was heavily influenced by it.
Grew up with this. How cool. a ONE WORLD James bond, Got to get the sheeple to accept the masters hand....to quote the NFL (NHK??) upon futher review....oh, gee, I am going to a camp?.ut there will be food? and free TV?....
I was blond so McCallum was my want to be. Also Scottish. Decent good guys won tv time. The 60's were the best of talent in tv and music. Glad I got to be a kid then. Still have my Have Gun Will Travel business cards and the walet even my partially filled bottle of Dante'. Don't you wish there was time travel.
This was one of my favorite shows, I remember they had a promotion on a certain brand of a 'packet of chips' ..or crisps as they say in Europe. You could join the 'man from uncle' club if you sent in so many empty bags with your name and details and I think there was a quesions also. I received my 'Man From Uncle' badge in the mail with other paraphernalia from the show. I was such a fan that I spent all of my pocket money on packets of chips..lol
I loved this show, of course i was only 1 when it came on so I probably saw the latter part of the series and some reruns. if any of you watch NCIS, Mark Harmon's character said about David McCallum's character in the show that he reminded him of Illya Kuryakin I almost fell out of my chair lol. ty for posting the tune.
I was a big fan of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. as a kid during the 1960s, and especially of Robert Vaughn, who till this very day I believe is one of the coolest cats anywhere!
I do not usually watch the videos, these were great. My best friend's older sister loved the "Girl From U.N.C.L.E" , she dressed like April Dancer, recorded every show with her reel-to-reel and typed them up and filed them. It is only a metter of time before we see this re-made.
Or any of these: 1. Man from U.N.C.L.E. (Theme) Listen 2. Invaders Listen 3. Wild Bike Listen 4. Illya Listen 5. Off and Running Listen 6. Boo-Bam-Boo, Baby Listen 7. Run Spy Run Listen 8. Solo on a Raft Listen 9. Jungle Beat Listen 10. There They Go Listen 11. Lament for a Trapped Spy Listen 12. Man from T.H.R.U.S.H. Listen 13. Slink Listen 14. Solo Busanova Listen 15. Dance of the Flaming Swords Listen
Hugo Montenegro had a knack for "unusual" arrangements- it was during his scoring the "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" episode "How Lucky Can You Get?" in early 1966 that creator/producer/writer Sidney Sheldon decided HE was the one to write a new theme- and score- for the second season {replacing Richard Wess' "romantic jazz waltz" and score, which Sheldon ultimately became dissatisfied with}.
Much better. The early-mid sixties had unbelievable TV: Man from UNCLE, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, Outer Limits, etc.
i had man From UNCLE lighters, cigarette cases, comm devices, machine guns from 1966-1968, all with hidden deployments. I was amazed. Retractible machine gun, a lighter gun. These were realistic. Anyone else have any? PS - I had the official UNCLE briefcase with the real camera and the machine gun that came out when you pressed a button.
Like it! The best version of the theme, for my money least ways, was from the film version 'The Spy In The Green Hat'. Don't suppose you'd have a copy of that you could post?
