  • steffey...go shoot whoever told you wearing that shirt was a good idea!

  • This is an oldie! Luv it!

Just saw Alison Brown in concert ... great show!

  • hmm... should girls be allowed Stellings?

  • @Edthebanjo that "girl" has won an IBMA award for banjo player of the year as well as a Grammy...so I think yes, she can play whatever she wants, especially since it was probably custom made for her. Women can play the banjo too, thank goodness, because there sure are a lot of good women pickers out there!

  • @hannananana As far as women pickers go, check out Sierra Hull on the mandolin. If you're not familiar with her, get ready to enjoy!

  • @Edthebanjo Ask Geoff Stelling if he minds that Allison Brown plays (or used to play) a Stelling! He's probably okay with it.

  • @ekudds I don't think I'll bother; I'm fairly sure he will be okay with it.

I was simply making a light hearted joke about the extremely powerful stelling banjos and how id classify it as a deep, masculine sound. Sorry if it wasn't funny...

I am a huge fan of her too, and Sierra Hull, no offensiveness was intended...

  • @Edthebanjo No offense taken Ed. As far as Stellings go, Alan Munde is the man!

  • @ekudds He sure is, I spent a week being taught banjo by him, and he surely is a great player, teacher, and guy.

  • @Edthebanjo Your a lucky guy

  • Nice song. Alison is not your usual perfomer. Something about that lady???

  • Steffey is a beast.

  • This is the band Alison Krauss should have now in 2010. You cant beat this sound.

  • @stdguage

You can if you take the 1991-1998 lineup (Ron Block and until Adam left). ^^

  • @plunky123 Yes you’re right. But the old sound is gone the one I really liked.

  • @stdguage Well, regardless who is playing with her ... she changed-up her style a bit over the years.

  • Alison Brown is one picken gal the best I have ever heard.

  • my ex and my brothers and friends and I used go 2steppin at a country dance club in San Dimas Ca. called The Western Connection in the late 80s early 90s the house band was union station before alison was a full fledge member but they brought her up on stage to do a few songs a few times and I remember the last night they played they said they were going to Nashville "to get famous" they did mostly cover songs back then but they were good to me there is none better

  • so many good things in one video

    all the musicsion are amazing

  • Adam Steffey's shirt!

  • @crawdad2006 How about Ron Blocks T-shirt? Looks like he's gettin' ready to cut the grass.

  • seirra? Idk you fix it.

  • Killer giddar kick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super rythem man too! Tony had me eatin servings of RICE day n nite! then Tim came along and I got STAFF infection. in comes Tyminski.... I'm is a Danfan!! Who could possibly be next??? I guess I could be HULLed in by Serria ? Anyway, now my own guitar playin sounds kinda ricstafski.

  • Allison Brown is by far the best I have ever hear on a banjo. thanks Allison

  • Can anyone explain why AK got different side musicians between this group, Stafford, Steffey, Brown & Bales & the current group, Union Station. Was this group w/ her also called Union Station?

Thanks for the post of her older work & thanks in advance for an answer to this question.

  • In 1991 Alison Brown left the group I guess to form her band and then Ron block came in. in 1994 Tim Stafford left to form Blue Highway, Dan Tyminski came in. In 1998 Adam left to go with the Issacs and Jerry Douglas came in. Barry of course has been there the whole time.

  • And this was an earlier version of Union Station.

  • Yeah this was Union Station, its been through a few member changes though

  • Alison Krauss and Alison Brown look like they were audtioning for Timbuk 3 with those shirts

  • she's amazing... though also has the eyes and stare of a blind person.

  • Don't get me wrong at all, I love the new stuff!! But I sure LOVE watching all these old videos....and I agree with the polka dot shirt... ouch. That makes these old videos fun though!!!

  • She's got the voice of an angel...

  • Allison and Union Station what a wonderful bluegrass singers and instrumentalists..Wahooooo!!!love this and love your red shirt girly..You go girl...A fan for life here..

  • Such a gifted artist, Alison is amazing. Union Station is also a bunch of gifted folks too.

  • this song is so GOOD it makes me want to flip the damn furniture over and go nutz!!!!

  • What were you thinking with that red pok-a-dot shirt???

  • Bluegrass girls rule!

  • You got that right! LoL!

  • Thank you so much for sharing this awesome performance from my most favorite girl singer! (smiles)

God bless you and her always!!!

Holly in East Tennessee (a fan of her since 1994)

  • With Tim Stafford on guitar,Adam Steffey on mandolin and Allison Brown on banjo, this is the best formation of Union Station....Of course J.D.could have done a break or two but it's o.k....!!!

  • I have to agree with you on that one, there's something stellar about their sound here, Alison's voice was still fragile and highly emotional, and the instrumental backup is tasteful, driven but subtle, my favorite kind of bluegrass. Not that I don't love the rest of her musical career, just that the balance was pretty much perfect with these guys...

It's great seeing this old footage, thanks again Bluegrasslibrary !

  • how long was a. brown with krauss?

  • through most of the early 90s, at least that's what I can recall. Not sure if that helps! He's great though and of course Alison is an angel!

  • Brown was there until 1991 when Ron Block stepped in. His first album was Everytime You Say Goodbye released in 1992

  • I prefer Jeff White's intro from the album version to what Stafford plays here.

  • I love that drive

  • There is no doubt that Alison idolizes Dolly and I remember Dolly saying that the first time they met Alison broke down in tears. I totally agree with jesusakuschick that Alison has grown into her own since then and from a vocal performance view has long surpassed Dolly. If there is a better bluegrass or country vocalist on planet earth, who is it?

  • yeah i can hear the dolly influence. but alison has really grown into her own since then. she never ceases to amaze me!

  • You can hear Dolly's influence on Alison.

  • No I can't!!!!!

  • yes, you can.

  • yeah, in early dolly stuff

  • awesome bluegrass from one of the most beautiful voices.

  • now.. That's PURE!
