He thinks that 39% is a good number. 39% is FAIR for people to pay. I wonder what people in 1913, before the implementation of the graduated income tax, would have said if you told them that some people in this country would pay 39 cents on every dollar they earn to the Federal Government. Think about it... better yet, write it down. THIRTY NINE PERCENT. This is in addition to State and Sales taxes, property taxes, business taxes, etc... Those who grow up poor face many more obstacles. And those who succeed do so largely due to the opportunities created by the society they live in. For example, Bill Gates' father was on TV arguing that the "death tax" should be repealed because the wealthy are indebted to society. Read John Rawls' theory of justice, especially on the veil of ignorance.

The poor are not "non-working". A substantial number of Americans are working full-time under the poverty line. The middle-class has had their real wages decline while the wealthy have seen theirs skyrocket.
