the old stuff and the new stuff are neither better nor worse than each other..both define what arctic monkeys were at the time of them making it...they cant be compared...in my opinion everything they make is amazing,i love how they are changing though,it makes them more exciting because you don't know what way they are gonna turn next! :)

it's sad that a lot of 'fans' abandoned them when Humbug came out. they're probably getting their musical pleasures out of the pigeon detectives still while we get to enjoy this beautiful masterpiece of an album. also, sadly, it doesn't suit them playing this anymore :/ I can understand why they dropped a lot of early songs. although wpsiatwin is still my favourite album of this century.

I really don´t understand why everyody thinks the "old" monkeys were better than this

maybe it´s because the kind of music that the old monkeys use to play was the music taht every teenager likes

I think they new music it´s so much mature than the old music I´m not saying that the old one is bad but defintitelly the new songs like crying lightning are way better

@zepled1000 I agree. I dont really like indie or Arctic Monkeys, im into Heavy Metal mainly, but i have to say their new stuff is better. Im sure a lot of their fans don't like the new songs and thats because it doesnt have as much of a commercial sound. I dig the psychedelic influence it has, the structures are better... and the hair is better

saw them live at leeds fest this year, i just don't think the old stuff has the same vibe with the jazzmaster. the strat was perfect for them, albeit making no difference for me as i love them.

I agree, the Strat was more of his guitar, some guitars are just meant for certain people. Don't get me wrong, I love the JM and also Jags, but they're more of a surf-twang sound, very warm and cool. But when he had his strat, he made volcanos erupt and new ice ages. Rakes guitarist made a switch from a Tele to a hollow-body Ibanez, not as great of a sound, for example.

Still sounds like a bright, overdriven bridge pickup to me. It's a fuller sound yes, but the newer albums warrant that sound. It's not the brittle, tiny sound that came out of one of the first guitars the guy owned when he was still learning to play guitar. UPGRADE.
