I went to one of his concerts quite a few years ago when he had the base player John Patitucci and I was just blown away! I really enjoyed it tremendously!
Dude! Thanks so much for breaking it down!! Maybe I'm a sucker for suspensions ;) Yeah, I see what you mean about it really starting at 1:30. When they hit it at 1:40 with all that authority, it's just sounds so thick. I guess Patituci's tone is part of the thickening agent :D Top-Shelf.
@JonP1961 No problem men! Glad there are people who appreciate this music and especially care for the harmonic progressions, let's not let this things die. I'm a trumpet player and I've recently started a band and got to play this tune live, as soon as I have the video uploaded i'll get you the link so you can give me your insights! Cheers!
Came from a musical family, so was always exposed to something happening on some speaker in the house ;) Actually everything, from Chopin to Schoenberg to Chicago ;) I play very little these days (self-taught guitar), was in "band" when i was a kid (clarinet, bass clarinet) and had a very very limited amount of theory. Wish I had stuck with it starting back then. but after all these years, it fascinates me more now!
I was crazy about all of their albums, except for Light Years. Something about the production on that one. I'd have to say my favorite CCEB album was Eye Of The Beholder. And yeah, we can make fun of the way they looked, but it was 1991-92 people. Grow up. If you were, say, 17 or older in those years you were probably wearing something similar, especially if you were in a band like this. Ya buncha dorks. Let the music speak for itself and get a life.
This piece is perhaps, arguably, my favorite, not only because- as a guitarist myself- I enjoy this showcase of Frank Gambale's amazing chops, but the entire band says quite a lot in a short space of time.
I also recommend the 2004 Montreux performance of "Got A Match?" to see the band in an epic extended performance.
@feverlead WOW YOU MUST BE SO GOOD AT "ROCKBAND" It's for sure that you can't play a REAL GUITAR! How could someone's looks change the way someone plays?Looking foward to your response.
@grantfloering I did grow up during the 80s and I went to all these Elektric Band tours. They were totally awesome (and I don't use that word lightly). I've never seen anything quite like this before or since - although Return To Forever last year came very close. Totally awesome!
Hey dude....is that really a wig? Didn't know that. lol This was one of the first fusion concerts I'd ever seen (heard). It was on the same program as the Flecktones back in '90 or so (first time I heard Vic)....changed my life...no exaggeration. And by the way...that trench coat F-ing RULES!!!
Check Frank's skinny jeans too, lol! So dope, man Dave is real young in this isn't he? Anyone know how old....There are noticeable things in his playing that the now "more mature Dave" wouldn't do.
I am not mad at you!! This is one of the greatest bands in history! Their music changed my life, and a lot of other peoples. Simply Genius composition, arrangement, and musicians

Sweet progression during 1:40-1:53.
JonP1961 1 year ago
@JonP1961 It's: #V-V-bVI-bVIIsus (alternating suspended4th, major 3rd and suspended 2nd)-I
Interesting to note they are all major chords, this is called constant structures.
The whole progression starts at 1:30 and goes like this: F-Ab-A-B-C-Db-Ebsus-F
Chick Rocks it as hard as it can be rocked.

As fae as chick's stuff, and the ridiculous long jacket Gambale was wearing, chick had a deal with an Italian designer, back then.
Can't remember his name.
I asked Gambale about it at a guitar clinic in 98 and he laughed his ass off about it.
Go along to get along, eh?
