speaking as the son of a proud ulsterwoman who was born in belfast, brought up in chicago and died in england and was also protestant, can i say that i have heard this song played on jukeboxes in loyalist bars in northern ireland by members of flute bands returning from marches. i think it is wrong for you to think that such people do not recognise the suffering of the famine.
Said a father to his son "Oh my boy the time has come" Your country it is calling unto thee For those rebels once again To unite us is their aim And together we must stand to keep her free Chorus: Remember, our fathers brave and bold As they fought for Ulsters cause in far off lands Oh my father said to me "I must join the Y.C.V" With a rifle or a pistol in my hand
Fuck Trevalyan and the Crown ... the heartless murderers of hundreds of thousands of innocent Irish people. May they be fucked by rabid pigs forever in Hell.
I'm a presbyterian and what most people like seem to forget when you blame us for those murders but actually presbyterians were also killed and by 1436 catholics had more rights in Ireland then the presbos. (presbolutherism was a irish and scotish invention not an english).
I think personally that they also forget that the struggle for Irish freedom wasn't a catholic/protestant issue. It is an Irish/British one... the heros of 1916 didnt die for the rights of Catholics, but for all Irish men and women.
well i thank you for at least being a wee bit diplomatic about this apart from some poeple (this is including republicans and unionists) that just incohearantly (spelt wrong lol) swear at each over. and yes the recession is hard but if Ireland was to be reunited do you think that the Irish government would be able to support the north in the economic crisis and yes the British did to terrible thing to the Irish but is the situation bad ATM if it was for people who think its worse than it is.

In dungeon deep I know what fate awaits me,
Tied hand and foot, the foe have bound me fast,
And in my haste, I pray that God above me,
Will grant me this wish I know will be my last.
Don't bury me in Eireann's Fenian valleys,
Just take me home, in Ulster let me rest,
And on my gravestone carve this simple message:
Here lies a soldier of the UVF.

@MrSetzer "Just take me home, in Ulster let me rest," Home for you = Scotland or England. Time to go home

If you are complaining about the singing you just don't get the murphy's. Thats fine, but I wouldn't change a thing about them.
Look up their ballad version, the song as well as the story behind it.
PartialtoGreen 2 years ago 3
I do generally like the murphy's, i suppose because i really like that song, that version wasn't the best. Im not knocking them.
joannnapianna 2 years ago
Thats just pretty much what they sound like live haha. Either love it or hate it I guess.
