American Staffordshire's are American Pit Bull Terriers..

They are the exact same breed, but after dog fighting was banned no one wanted "Pit" in the dogs name anymore.

@chocolaterawr11 to add to this the AKC did not want to be asociated with dog fighting now that made sense so they started accepting the APBT ubder a new name and the Amstaff was born you can argue with me that they are not the same breed but they are and the Amstaff is only the show version of the breed

@candidomoreno666 they have been seperate for so many years that they arent the same breed anymore. the APBTs in the UKC maybe(just because they are mostly dual registered staffs or have alot of staff in them). but the game bred dogs in the ADBA are completely different. go to an ADBA show and tell me if those dogs look like they are the same breed as the dogs at the AKC show.

@qpKamiKazeeqp temperment is more sound? i dont know if i agree with that. am staffs are great dogs, i wont argue with that but APBTs can have great temperments too and an am staff could potentially have a shitty one depending on the owners. one thing i can tell you for certain is that, as a whole, the APBT has more drive, determination, and athletecism. Am staff = bred for looks, APBT = bred for performance.

@nutsack666 well, reguardless...there are a lot of ILL BRED dogs containing to these breeds. TO ME andme personally... there is the lil staffys(smallest), apbt(thin, fit,&very defined body), AmStaffs(which is what most ppl think a true apbt is with out proper knowledge) and of course todays "PITBULL" AmBully. im not gna cont' into the other types that most normal random ppl would call an APBT.

I def. agree with you.. there are ill raised/bred amstaffs and AWESOME apbt. but ..

I had to choose between living in the city I grew up in (denver) or keeping my am staff named kanga because of the idiotic bully ban which has seen over 500 innocent dogs put down. I didn't have to think twice I no longer call denver home & my "vicious dog" enjoys her freedom so much she attacks my children regularly, licking them so much they pee their pants and cry. The only time she's ever hurt anybody was when I was teaching her to pull flags at football practice & she missed & got my side.
