The Taliban didn't even exist then. Reagan spoke of the Mujahadeen, the Anti-Communist fighters - you know, the guys fighting the Soviets. The Mujahadeen later went on to fight the Taliban as the Northern Alliance.

Reagan was speaking about enemies of the Taliban, not the Taliban. See the wiki on "Northern Alliance"

There was a sort of revival of Coolidge during Reagan's Presidency, Coolidge really doesn't get the acknowledgment he deserves. He was a great President too, only Reagan was in our lifetimes and our last real President.
