I think your cleanliness obsession is crazier than recording people on voicemail (jk). But you should keep the dead people and the ones who are still alive separately! Some people might think this is a bit like writing obituaries for living people just to save yourself the effort when they die, do you know what I mean? People don't like to think about the fact that they're going to die, so someone might take offence that you keep a memo in anticipation of their death.
That's actually a really good idea! Sometimes I wonder what people sounded like, when I haven't seen them in years. Would I recognize their voice? Then again, in my experience, recorded voice sometimes sounds different from real voice. Especially on the phone, because of the frequency spectrum used. Next time you're talking to someone on the phone, ask him to randomly say the letter S and F. Then you need to figure out what was said. Should be impossible to get it right ;)
Not weird a good idea really. My moms hole family kept wanting to tape my grandmothers stories from the depression and from when her husband was murdered but sadly nobody ever did.Boopy is gonna be pissed when he see's this.
@schatze78 Oh for sure for sure, I would understand that. Just the dark side deep down does want to hear it lol, The same part of me who likes to people watch I guess.
@culwin No, he has a tiny dog that he keeps tied up to a post several times per day that I'm surprised hasn't been eaten by an eagle. It's not his kitty.
I have had this same thought. About ten years ago I recorded my dad's stories and transcribed them (I felt my mortality very keenly when I turned 21, for some reason), but I deleted the tapes. Stupid.
@BaubleRob Aww :-( That's so sad. My mom recorded my uncle and some of the things that happened with him over the years--his tuskeegee days, and then the rest of his time in the air force, etc.
Oh wow. Fanboys. They are their own subset of geek. They're definitely a special group.
Unusual, but not crazy. I had similar thoughts myself when filming my children playing with their grandparents, my parents, when they were laughing, that it's nice to have on film because they won't always be there. But I haven't recorded answer machine messages.
@BadAlbert film never really did it for me. I guess it's because no one in my family is photogenic? :-p Maybe if we were better cinematographers it would be different. Our old cameras had movies that were fuzzy as memories. It has come a long way, though.
I surely wished I had the wisdom to have saved stuff like that. Sound works so much better when you want to jog your memory than a picture. My wife has these 8mm soundless movies (now on DVD as well) and it just doesn't do it for me. Where as I have old tapes from my youth that bring color to my face. Granted her movies and my tapes are from different lives....but that we saved/saver memories differently says something.
Nerds and geeks do have that difference but I believe geek has a broader spectrum than just the 'intellectual realm'. I think geek is closer to freak and that does make them more 'expressive' by nature so to speak. Nerd is the introvert intellectual. As you are clearly not introvert at all you can not be a nerd. And as you always state a 'balanced opinion' you can't be a geek.
I don't think you need either or even any classification. You are clearly one of a kind. ;^)
@PuppyZwolle Hahaha, my friends actually have given me the "how to care for this introvert" instruction sheets to give to people when I go to new places. Once they even pinned it to my clothing.
@schatze78 LOL. Now I'm sure you are not a geek. A geek would be so offended by that. ;^)
Oh ( he blurted out almost spoiling the surprise) I was inspired so I painted something that may interest you.... at least I hope so. It will be up soon.
Weird? Definitely not, I always worry I'll forget the voices of people after they die. And what they look like, and all that stuff. I actually think I'd wanna do that, its a good idea!

@Yarrum13 I wouldn't say it's wrong to want to hear, but it isn't going to happen ;-) They're messages to not be shared.

Somewhat.. um somewhat odd. Death is promised. Having your utterances posted on the internet after the fact is not.
