You know, we really haven't seen any "real" evidence that Loghain is planning anything evil/ planed to usurp the throne. It seems like he's being set up as the patsy.
Just my thoughts I haven't played this game.
Nice walkthrough I really enjoy it!

Yeah but my point is that doesn't necessarily mean he planed to do so or that he wasn't sincerely retreating his forces to fight another day.
Basically, retreat from battle doesn't equal evil plan. Again, just a thought though.
