My cd player has a repeat button where I can listen to a song over and over again. Why doesn't youtube give me this option? I say this after listening to this song the seventh time. And tonight I'm going to watch the movie 'Great Balls of Fire' I love Jerry Lee and I'm honored to be walking this planet at the same time that he is.
Being the first Daughter of 4 Brothers prior, as a child, our Father had a regular accompanist to the old fashioned films, and mainly musicals, yes - me!
Therefore I was somewhat privileged as purse-strings were tight, to say the least, in those days.
Dad played piano & sang around the local pubs in our town.
At the age now of 64 years and loss of Dad of almost 22 years ago. I see EXACTLY what Dad saw in this "All Time Classic"!!!
There is no other version I'd rather listen too t
When you click on the graph & read the stats for most of Jerry Lee's songs they mostly compute that he is most popular with the male crowd. This is hard for me (a female) to believe. Any ideas why he appears to be more popular with the guys ??
@Pumarisi124 Didn't know his numbers show that. My wife (whose tastes are mostly Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn, Carol King) told me in no uncertain terms not to lose a JLL cd I borrowed from her collection. I guess it's his reputation for dissolution, race, and his incredible piano that does it. If he is mostly a guy performer, I would say white guy even though he was heavily influenced by black music as was Elvis. Thanks for the thought provoking question.
@Pumarisi124 probably bc he was a bitch'n BAD ASS!!! Guys wish they could be that arrogant and cocky and get praised for it like he did!!!! He's the friggin man!!!
@Pumarisi124 i think most girls, dont wanna go there, maybe he imtimitates em,maybe they dont feel it to live with a jerry lee crazy would be heven to me
@hniscolV2 I don't really care what names you call me, I'm a grown man. The song kicks ass & has tons of feeling. See him live & you'll feel it,. Now try using this & other threads without resorting to name calling & insults, it makes you look bad.
@jhniscolV2 what? what does that have to do with anything? since when was this a competition between two versions? all you said was that this didn't have the feeling behind it and all i have to say to that is you should unplug your ears.
@jhniscolV2 Ray Charles does a wonderful renditijn..its tough to say who does better....killers is more flamoyent..but so brilliant..tough call i think..even id say..but different
This is the first time I heard Lewis' version. It's defintiely good, but I don't feel the emotion behind the song. This is a reflection of how everything goes no matter how horrible life feels, and I feel that this should be expressed with so much more emotion
If you think he never got the respect he deserved then you should respect him today. He still preforms and still puts out material. I preorder all of his albums and even get some that I have had to import. Jerry Lee is the the best and I just hope he comes near my area again so I can see him in concert.
Dinolord...You are wrong...I have been a fan of JLL since the mid 50's...These are not the "devils" songs, you sick, sad soul...I pity you for your closed and probably shattered mind...
This song is perfectly placed in the movie "Great Balls Of Fire" during the scenes depicting Jerry Lee's decline after being found out while in England. That is where I discovered the song. I have heard other versions but Jerry Lee's is the best yet.
Jerry Lee, you still have IT after all these years! I also learned a LOT from the late Ms. Del Wood!! Please try and take time to watch me play the piano. Sincerely,Allen Dale.
He's still the killer, the best ever within his class which is the top of all music class, god bless jerry lee lewis, may he forever live. love ya jerry from canada.
Can you by any chance upload the Dennis Quaid version of 'Lucky Old Sun' from this sound track, since it sounds like you've got it.
I used to own the soundtrack on cassette tape but my player 'ate it'. I've desperately wanted to play it for my friend because Dennis did such a great job, but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks
nobody can sing that song like the killer.. his voice.. i dont konw..but his voice.. hot.. the best version i've ever heared..the killer... just the killer..
It's a remaster/re-recording for Great Balls Of Fire Movie from the 80's. You can find it on the soundtrack. All the songs in the movie were re-recorded by the killer himself
Jerry Lee has always done things his way and plays piano the right way...his way. If he wants to sing the song like this then fair play to him. If you prefer the version from Louis, Willie, Ray or, even, Brian Wilson then that is fine. Variety is the spice of life as they......and Jerry Lee Lewis has had a hell of a lot of variety in his career. From country to rock 'n' roll to gospel he did it all and did it in his own style.
this was depicted well in the movie when things went straight to hell for him, stupid myra shoulda A. not married him or B kept her godamn mouth shut hes so talented and she went and fucked it up :( so sorry jerry
I disagree. Every performmer has a different interpretation of the song. This version sounds like a performance (not a bad thing). Rays has a sorrowful feel to it. My favorite happens to be Luis Armstrong.
You know when i saw the GREAT BALLS OF FIRE movie i couldnt stop watching it! Man but Jerry Lee Lewis is so friggen cool! He is one of the greatest rockin' rollers that ever lived! Im only 13 and i listen to his songs everyday now. I love 50's music and he is one of the reasons why!

Yes she is, Myra Gale Lewis. But i disagree with 9332931 on the film Great Balls of Fire. I find it idiotic and making a mockery of Jerry Lee Lewis portraying him like a mindless baboon.
