  • " Freddie in his element, Great Great Gig let me tell yoll " ~ Sincerely, 'Neville'aka 'Steppin Razor'

  • Wow, Freddie's disclaimer before the tune, a quasi- apologetic tone and then...'screw you critics, dig this..." What a heavy funk version, much more ballsy than the studio cut, good for them.

  • @egyptianminor Is "Spike" Edney back stage on synthbass for this track ?- since JD is on rhytm guitar...

  • @egyptianminor I meant rhythm guitar

  • This is the best version of this song by far!!! So much energy!

  • I never though Queen played this song... THIS IS AMAZING!

  • @AngelMaldonadoSME I was meaning LIVE!. :)

  • 3'18 to 3-30 is epic

  • Leeds '82 version is best! closest to original idea (hint hint)

  • Wow, Roger! Good drumming on this one!

  • Freddie's voice = Power!!!!!!!

  • this version

the bass drumis louder n rogs vocal too

  • I never noticed before that John Deacon plays guitar on this track live...

  • @TheMarlinspike John play acoustic on a couple of Queen songs. I wonder if there is any live footage of Mr. Deacon palying acoustic guitar with Queen? Did they do You And I live?

  • @JIF882 Yeah I knew he played quite a lot of guitar on the album tracks but had never seen him on one live. I don't think You and I was ever played live (might be wrong) - Who needs you was another one he plays on, but again don't think it was played live.

  • @JIF882 There is footage, unfortunately, I can't think of it right now. I'll find it though.

  • I just got Queen on fire, Live at the bowl on DVD, can't wait to watch it!

  • @Allen10579 awesome dvd!

  • 2:14 I love how Freddie sings exactly what Brian's playing!

  • A song about remaining in a very active relationship for a long time, Staying Power is a great jazzy / disco song. The horns are amazing and give it one heck of a brassy sound. It gets your blood pumping and really lifts your spirits. One of my favorites off the Hot Space album. There could also be a sexual reference to the phrase, staying power.;)

  • The bass riff in this song is so epic ;D It's up there with Dragon Attack, Another One Bites The Dust and Under Pressure.

  • One of the biggest (or the biggest!?) band of rock music. Absolute brill!!!!!!!!

  • Definitly where Michael Jackson found inspiration for Thriller. King Mercury !

  • freddie you always staying power..

  • BABY YOU AND ME WE GOT STAYING POWEERRR!!!

  • brilliant song!!!!

  • the best version of this song that's greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • Fucking best band ever!

  • @jackie88jj don't say leader of the band to Freddie he always said I'm the lead singer not leader and hated when peoplesaid that to him. They all got 25% each there was no boss.

  • so theres no bass on this song live?!

  • you and me we got....huh.... Seeeeeeeeeexy Queen!!!!!!

  • worst song on the CD (for me) but .... BEST VERSION EVER!!!

I like the song if it is played THIS way, with this funky druming and this tempo!

    amazing

  • @alanboro nah, you should hear it with some grass, then you get it right ahead. :)

  • its funny how when i loved them when i was younger i hated the hot space album. nowerdays after ive listened to so much more music like prince and orchestral music and so on ive come to really appreciate not only queen more but even their songs that are just so different to their usual styles

  • the live version is better! so much energy

  • it´s ver dificult too understand for some that brian is the leader of the band looking that freddie is the singer, moving with all that energy on the stage.

  • I like Hot Space, and I think it would have been better received if it didn't catch audiences off-guard with it's different sound. It was just an unexpected follow-up to the success that "the Game" brought.

  • Best live version of Staying Power!

  • Comment removed

  • It was this show that redeemed the hot space such amazing songs live!!!!

  • In my opinion, second best song in the horrible album Hot Space, after Under Pressure and this version is the best.

  • In my opinion, second best song in the horrible album Hot Space, after Under Pressure

  • @tonibcnn

really, you're serious? what about las palabras de amor, cool cat, backchat, life is real.. you don't like these songs?

  • @betichi Not much, with previous albums, there are very ordinary...

  • @tonibcnn okay, i respect your opinion

i think these songs (including action this day btw) are classics next to their previous work

  • And there is no bass guitar on this LIVE version they performed!!!!!!

John Deacon is playing a black Fender Telecaster guitar!.(not a bass!).

Interesting! So they did the dual guitar thing...Deacon and Brian...with Deacon having a slightly fuzzed out guitar tone and playing in the lower guitar register

through most of the tune....kinding of getting a bass-ish tone but with that edge and picking clarity and speed of a telecaster! Very nice!

  • Though I've had this exact concert footage on video since 1987 from the 3 video

Queen retrospective set which was released that year, I haven't viewed this particular song for some time and I have to say it's fucking HOT. What a tight performance by all four of them. Great musicians playing perfectly together in a very fast paced funky composition..pulling off great vocal harmonies too.

Freddie is just, well, he's Freddie! He is THE best! The most charismatic. talented rock/pop singer ever.

  • whoa thats awesome! i love this song, this version is crazy cool :P

  • @jackie88jj Yes Michimoni is right Freddie hated it when people said he was the leader of Queen. Freddie said I'm the lead singer and all 4 of us are equal.

  • you and me we got STAYING POWER

  • LOL, Freddy is cute

  • Interesting that Freddie felt the need to offer that almost apologetic disclaimer at the beginning - I thought the song sounded great live; they were working hard!

  • I watched this on tv, i thought this was a good sound from their regular tracks.

  • The studio versions of the songs on Hot Space still sound good but Staying Power and Back Chat sound amazing live. Much much better. Freddie is such an expressive person!, incredible energy and so much emotion!! and his singing is out of this world. What an amzing man he was!!!

  • and the greatest frontman ever of rock

  • 'Hot Space' was their last good record.

I'd even dare to say their best times in terms of musicianship.

I think this Funk Rock approach really suited them

  • @dockaiser Are you out of your mind? The best times in terms of musicianship? Yeah right, still a good record, but don't dare say that. And what about Innuendo? That's my 3rd favourite Queen album behind Opera and II.

  • I love that Freddie is like "It's only a bloody record..." to all the people who get so fucking worked up just because they wanted to venture to other genre's of music for a few songs. These guys invented genre's with all their experimentation and seeing them wonder over to a funk sound is cool. What I'm trying to say is, this song is fantastic =) and a great performance, thanks for posting!

  • WOW! never saw this! One of my favourite songs from Queen played live. Thank U Michimoni for sharing. Heaven keep freddie safe forever !!. God save the Queen.

  • R.I.P. Freddie.X.

  • the break that starts at 2:19 and really kicks it at 2:27 = pure musical sex.

  • Oh wow he's on FIRE! <3

  • This one is from live at the bowl :P

  • Yes, that is the DVD/CD title for the full concert. The venue was the National Bowl at Milton Keynes.

  • GIVE IT TO ME WOOOOOOW

  • I saw this on my Queen documentary and now I see the full version here. Simply awesome. Freddie so sexy! The 4 are legends.

  • canyouseemesucker i think that u made a very very groove comment but at the same a correct one

  • Love this one live! Wish I could have seen em live back then but alas, I was only 1 year old lol

  • Their live performance was so great !

Many, many bands sound so ugly on stage, that you wish you´d get your money back. But not them. Queen will live forever in our mind !!!

  • John's guitar playing is always underrated...

  • i love queen hot space is one of my favourite albums all of there albums are different you just cant get bored:):) genius

  • Hot Space is my fav too. I think the game would be second. I liked how they started incorperating synths into their sound. I feel that a lot of 70's rock bands tried to incorporate synths into their music and were not always successful. I feel that Queen and Rush were 2 rock bands from the 70's that did a good job of it.

  • ur right :) queen did a great job!! just wish more people wud realise it:)

  • @Peligrin1 Styx aswell.

  • thnx for sharing it dude.freddie rocks doing this funky song

  • great song

  • le sale mejor que en el disco

  • i'm suprised how much i like this song live. i didn't care to much for the hot space album, but when the songs are played live they all become great

  • they say it was their best gig...and i was there and was great...great posting--queen at the height of their powers

  • Fantastic performance of this song! Even better live, and has there ever been a more charimatic front man?

  • lol.. he's gay.. died of aids.. that's why no one can ever beat him.. they can't swallow their pride, but he's gay he has no pride to swallow, he'll kill us all with his awesomeness!

  • technically he was bi sexual and lived with his girl friend for 7 years

  • he looks so exhausted here but he never stoped to move it that afternoon. thats the soul of a real rockstar

  • WWOWOOWOWOWOWOWW

  • Freddie was the front man, not the leader. :)

  • As he said, "we're four equal members"

  • @Michimoni well said because we all know Freddie hated being called the leader and that he was only the lead singer and we all get 25% each.

  • Simply perfect.

  • Freddie's voice is amazing! Never heard a better one in rock music.

  • my favorite live song from Hot Space Tour is Body Language it sounds so great love the way Roger screams I want ur body...this stayin power sounds great as well

  • a real fuking jam...just shows how tight and together they were as a band...seen them numerous times they will always rock

  • just fucking BEAUTIFUL !!!!

  • This sounds sooooooooooooo much better live - the studio version is disco-influenced electronic funk, but with the electronic drums replaced with acoustics and played at a faster tempo it turns into funk rock - perfect for a person like me who firmly believes in classic rock heaviness but also has a nightclub side!!!!!!!!

  • Luv this concert. His voice and the band were electric.

  • How great is this??? What a powerful drive!!!

  • Totally agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • This is what I love about Queen and what I criticize so much of other bands. These guys are so ADHD it's not even funny. By that I mean they're maybe the most ecclectic band ever. They have a hit in maybe 5 or 6 genres of music. It's just incredible. Every time I say I prefer hard rock songs like Gimme the Prize and Innuendo, I'm reminded of how genius songs like this and ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST are.

  • Fucking awesome!

John Deacon is an awesome basist :)

  • In this song John is not with a bass...he's playing a guitar...

  • Im tottaly agree with you Michimoni

    this performance is REALLY AMAZING

    I love it

The drumms, guitar, and bass sound instead of the synthesizer iS AWESOME!

    LOVE QUEEN 4 EVER

  • Hot Space. If only they'de recorded it live like this. Unbelievable.

  • Friggin LOVE 2:16 when freddie starts scatting the riff its so friggin powerful!

  • Definitely two of the best rock singers of all time, Freddie Mercury and Steve Perry. (Sorry, I was listening to the Infinity album earlier, SP is also a god)

  • Completely agree with that comment!

  • fire down below ....

    i'm just a regular dynamo !!!!!

  • Oh yeah these are only song. I know this and my response is that I do put one aside for next on my MP3

Watching him move on stage and in his video's is just the way I'd love to spend 24/7

  • I love hearing Freddie speak

  • It doesn´t mean we´ve lost our RNR feeling.

    SURELY NOT!!!

The best live band ever!!!! And the DVD from Milton Keynes Bowl is certainly their best one.

Boy this guy (and Roger!!!) could sing. Only the good die young :-(

Freddie you´re alive in my heart.

  • best rock band ever! freddie vocals kick ass!

  • AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • oh i love this.

  • i adore you freddie !!!!!

  • elle est énorme cette zik en live

    Freddie est un génie !

  • I was born during this song, the 5th of June 82 !!

  • MASTERPIECE

  • Minchia Freddie non c'è storia, sei il più grande di tutti, non nascerà mai un altro Freddie Mercury.....

  • For live performences this is the best Queen era, The Gluttons For Punishment and Hot Space tour's: For the first time Freddie looks realy comfortable in his own skin on stage.

  • Montreal was good too, But yeah, Queen was explosive during this performance.

  • Freddie is unreplaceable!

  • Personaly, unlike most of the rest of you, I adore this and in my PERSONAL opinion i'd rather listen to this than Bohemian Rhapsody...Now, I wonder if anyone knows any group from this era (or any era) that makes similar music...I would very much appriciate every tip I can get!

  • what a fucking great performance one of my favorite queen songs just cause of the energy

  • That's right. Freddie used a white Telecaster on Crazy Little Thing Called Love on the Works and Magic tours. Brian would start the song with an Ovation 12 string, switches to a Telecaster during the second verse, then after the guitar solo, would switch over to the Red Special for end of the song.

And yeah, John (and Roger, for that matter) played a fair bit of guitar on the albums. John played the rhythm guitar on Back Chat, and yeah, most of the guitars on Misfire, as well.

  • Deacon is actually pretty good at guitar! :D

  • Oh my god, first time in 10 years i'm watching it live!!

  • May and Deacon kick ass and take names on this song!

  • I have the DVD of this.... its amazing.....

  • John Deacon playing the 'clean' guitar licks/riffs/chords, I was wondering who played those...fabulously done Deacon John ;-). Now I am wondering who is/are playing the trumpets :-).

  • Comment removed

  • Staying Power- Name is Program

  • john deacon playing guitar?

  • roger sang his heart out on this tour

  • Freddie talkimg about their rock and roll then telling them shit its just a record! I love the record got it today! (not the cd)

  • Man, they played the hell out this song, and they are locked in.

  • Im glad they actually played these songs live, and that the videos of them doing this still exist.

  • this song rocks so much more live

  • Dam this song sounds great Live

  • Mmm... need my daily dose of my sexy daddy. Love you Freddie! *drool*

  • Awesome.

  • GREAT !!!! Great concert !!!

  • the vocals at 1:34... not too many people have a voice like Freddie

  • no honey.. NO ONE have a voice like him

  • Agreed! Abso-bloody-lutely! No-one can even get close...

  • do you like Queen? =)

  • Of course I do:) Why?

  • oh... so you like my life

  • what? are you ok mate?:D

  • i'm crazy for Queeeeeeeeen! sono pazza di loroooo!

  • i adoreee staying poweeeeeeeer!

  • Actually, NO one has a voice like Frddie...

  • This is great too! just like Back Chat from Live at the Bowl! Queen has staying power! So Rock me rock me rock me!! They're just a regular dynamo!! What energy-sure don't see that in other groups concerts even today!

  • Useless fact:

In the album version, the synth bass is an Oberheim OB-X. Here, Morgan Fisher (the off-stage keyboard player) replaces the excellent Oberheim with the even more legendary Roland Jupiter 8.

  • That's not useless!

  • Oh yes I agree; this is exceptionally good live! And this is without the trumpets like in the album!

Judging on what a lot of people have said about the Hot Space album, it wasn't exactly a hit (I don't actually know as Queen is before my time =]), but I honestly can't see why! I am SOOO into this song right now =]

Well done Queen! Yet another tremendous performance!

  • Amazing, absolutely amazing stuff!

  • Fantastic performance!!!! They are the best!!!!

  • This song translated VERY well live. Brian and John are GREAT here! I like how Freddie sings along with Brian's guitar during the solo. Good stuff and I LOVE this DVD!

  • Shocked by how good this is live. It was probably the best song on the album other than Under Pressure, but it's shockingly good here, they really rock it out and do a strong translation.

  • The bass in this song is pre-recorded synth bass. Deacon is playing guitar here.

  • Yeah it's the Black telecaster brian uses on Crazy Little thing called love.

  • look at 4:12,, would love to see him do that on front of the stage and be a bit more 'entertaining' like May. and Mercury ofc.

  • insane bass! too bad John doenst like to get in the picture..

  • I think he's playing a guitar man, I mean, John.

  • Dude, he was playing electric guitar...

  • Didn't see much of him on this video, but he must've been working like a dog to keep up that pace! Unbelievable!

  • Incredible version... meatier and crunchier than the original version (which I equally love!). One hell of a song and a living proof of Queen´s musical diversity. ROCK ON!

  • Deacon HUMILHA NO BAIXO!!!

  • John plays guitar here!, Putting all the groove on it!.

  • It's only a bloody record, love that comment he's right there but its not really queens strength but this is actually a ton better than the recorded version

    gabyroads

  • Lot of people say it's a bad record because it is not rock & roll... so short minded way of thinking.
