After the closure of Trent FM, we wanted to tell you about the launch of trent.fm on 01 June 2011, it will re-capture the magic of Radio Trent from the 1980s and early 1990s and aims to bring local radio back to Nottingham, the capital's London and Trent is Nottingham! We are looking for programme ideas and any ex-Trent staff will be VERY welcome.
So with the Capital FM news, it's goodbye Trent FM / Sound FM... But hey, when you consider that David Lloyd practically invented splits, later networking, at Trent itself (as demonstrated here) as long ago as 1985 it was always inevitable. And oscarhughesb, I used to chase you around your dad's place in Birmingham when you were too young to remember lol ;-)
Hi Snossis, I believe it was a promotional video for Leicester Sound. They had it running on a loop in reception at Granville House. I agree, 89 wasn't a great year for music was it :-)
I visited that studio with some chums on 'Rob Wagstaff's Nightlife' in 1988 - 20 years ago! Started me down the path to broadcasting.
Ironic that they've just shown the huge efforts to appear local with the spilt carts etc. then you know Franklin Hughes is going to go on at 2.03 and say - 'This is Trent FM in Derby, Trent FM in Nottingham - and the massive noise of Sound FM in Leicester - OOH we love you Sound FM!' - and blow it completely out of the water.
I wonder what Franklin is doing these days? The last I heard, he was running a club in Crawley or somewhere in the Sussex / Surrey area, but that was back in 2001.
I've got some old recordings of John Shaw and Mark Spivey's programmes from this era - they didn't usually hide that they were being networked either. I remember sometimes the Trent and Sound FM jingles being played the wrong way round!
I wish it was still like this now! I miss the old days and that lovely noise of pushing a cart into a machine and watching them all fire off in sequence. PC automation may make it easy, but no way more fun!
slick in a pat sharp stylee. where i work in internet radio, jingles are on minidisc and old shows and some music are on playout. carts were cool tho.....i ended up with an old nick abbott cart at the training course i did with GLR. remember them?

I used to listen to this every week - brilliant to watch this. What was it recorded for?

You even manage to squeeze in the classic Radio Trent / Trent FM news jingle at the end. Pity Trent is no longer as good as this.... classic stuff.

'Dick Stone' mentioned at 2:43 that's exciting! He's now the Director Of Programs of Trent FM.
