  • Awesome! They had in fact three gigs in Budapest. The third one was to have been in PECSA, but due to poor marketing, only a handful of fans turned up. There was a small paper note on the door saying: Come over to Darshan Udvar in Krudy Gyula utca. So we went. The venue could accomodate maybe 2-300 people. The concert was incredible. The band enjoyed it as much as we -the fans - did.

  • ,,,,,hur får man bra drag i dragba"sune"n,,,,,

  • Wow. What a great live performance of this song. Talk about flawless. This sounds great. Even though the studio version is awesome, I prefer this live performance over the studio version.

  • I've been there as well!!

  • I sure don't miss my VHS player.. :-)

  • it s always nice to good old hot stuff of MMEB!!!!!i like davy s on the road again

  • Das ganze Album ist ein Klassiker!

  • Not knowing alot about this line-up is it Steve Waller or Chris Thompson singing this? A little help please.

  • @gern83

With that voice it's go to be Chris Thompson .. :)

  • rock and roll is cool

  • This song was written by a young Bruce Springsteen, maybe a little bit better performed by Manfred Mann

  • Top guitarsolo!

  • I saw this concert, I attended ALL concerts they ahd in Budapest since 1967

  • they knock this tune outta the ballpark...i hate springsteens version...so hard to believe that this is the same band that did quinn the eskimo. thanx for posting this...it rock for sure. :)

  • This is so beautiful I always have to cry

  • I'm so in love with this song. goosebumps effect ;o) LOVE IT!

  • Chris Slade (Drums) with long hair :-)

  • These guys could've made a career out of making Bruce Springsteen songs sound good.

  • take a look at that bassist!! lol looks like a faggot version of rod stewart!! lol

anyways this song is really powerful!!!

  • i want his god damn glasses!!! fuck what i would give to be there!!

  • @snowdjagha a von zipper model of glasses is very close to this one!!!

  • Great song. Bruce Springsteen with writing credits.

  • One of the best live bands I have seen.

  • I once talked my former girlfriend out of suicide with help from this song.

It's almost too good to be true.

  • I came BECAUSE of them :-P

  • I Love this song! amazing ...the wordz bring tearz to my eyez!

  • broken all your window's and ran through all your doors........I came for You

  • they did a decent job, but the chorus, "For you, for you, darling, I came for you"-- I don't like the changes they make with the techno stuff in the chorus.

  • @4rainbowed well its not techno stuff i think xD but they just get more and more faster... and i also don`t like this... but the rest is epic *_*

  • I like this live version with all the "extras"......but i also like the clean studio version as well.

  • simply the best!!!

  • This singer is so incredible. Love his voice.

  • I came for you

Juni-!!

  • yknow I used to think music was so easy back in 83... now that I have played with all kinds of musicians in all levels of musicianship... all I gotta say is if I find a couple of good musicians thats a lot to be thankful for..

I would love to have a perfect band of musicians - like what we are seeing here.... awesome

  • Why argue about who wrote what and who recorded when. All the "music trade" has always been a network. If not directly by writing or else cooperating everyone has influenced almost everyone else. Some have similar ideas at different times some ar successful others are not. In the end noone can tell the exact roots. btw.: Britney Spears did not write "hit me baby..." and Mozart never sang the Queen of the night part himself. There always have been composers, arrangers, singers and performers

  • Top dollar

I have too get album from Itunes.

Cris your are one out of 100 millions

  • isn't it senseless which interpretation of a song was written first?

important is which version you prefer for yourself, so stop those dicussions and enjoy the interpretation of which you think its the best =)

  • isn't itsenseless to argue about which...*

  • Epic Song!

  • I really like their versions. I read that Bruce had totally enjoyed their versions as well. To each his own I guess.

  • @burnz2188 You are way WRONG!! Bruce wrote these for Manfred Mann and then recorded them himself. Their versions are the "Original Versions" When Bruce did them himself, he did it in his own version. Manfred Mann was a great group with several hits written by others. Hmmm... About a thousand others have done the same thing.

  • Bruce Springsteen has never written a song for another artist.

  • @burnz2188

bullshit, he wrote 'hungry heart' for the Ramones, they didn't use it.

  • @burnz2188 He wrote Because the night for Patti Smith.

  • @burnz2188 Oh really? How about Because the Night For Patti Smith, Fire for the Pointer Sisters. He wrote For You, Blinded by the Light, and a couple others for Manfred Mann - and I'm sure he appreciated the royalties.

His ongs have been covered by over 200 artists, in addition to Manfred Mann.

  • are you insane? bruce recorded blinded in the light and for you three years before manfred mann did it. allan clarke also made a version of "blinded by the light" before manfred mann.

  • I really want to find TABS for that SOLO!!!! Anyone know anywhere to find them?? I find the solo so damn amazing

  • Comment removed

  • I was there. It was an awesome concert!!

They had two concerts in Budapest in the eighties, they were both incredible!!!!

  • @brpt57 Lucky you... Must have been fantastic. I love Chris Thompsons vocals on this one. At the end when he holds the tone, man thats brilliant. I saw them earlier in Stockholm. Perhaps 1978. take care friend

  • @cyprescrow Saw MMEB last Saturday here in Switzerland. But only with Manfred Mann & Mick Rogers left of the "Original" Manfred Mann's Earth Band. I missed Chris Thompson's voice so badly :( I don't really like Peter Cox's voice on the MMEB tracks. I'm happy I can be listening to this Live Version of "Four You" with Chris' voice. Love it ;o) as I said one month earlier, goosebumps effect on me ;o)

  • @cyprescrow

    Hi Friend,

Yes. I feel lucky that I have seen them twice. They were one of the best band in the 70/80s in my opinion.

My other favorite is Pink Floyd. But that is another story for another page.

    Wish you well!

  • @brpt57 lucky bastard. :) Would have liked to have been there too.

  • Manfred Mann's Earth Band is far and away better than that hack from New Jersey.

  • hahaha, good joke!!

  • @charliejg Really, How would they have done with this song, and the half dozen others he wrote that they recorded, if he hadn't written them?

  • Love the way he sings this song.. So passionate

Kudos to Springsteen for the lyrics too

  • i went to see them play with my father. great! just great!

  • This is one of my favorite Springsteen songs. While I'll always dig his version the most, I'm really lovin' where MMEB took this song. Really great stuff.

  • It's all abut love!

  • this is the best version of this song.

  • @mosspats Manfred Mann if a great cover band, no argument. Do they have any original songs?

  • @mosspats: No, Springsteen was much better. Just he and his piano... but this version is pretty good, too.

  • @mosspats nope there are far better versions

  • @mosspats yes!!!!!!!

  • Springsteen writes good lyrics...but he's horrible at singing. I really do not understand how he got into the business. MMEB takes Springsteen and Dylan to an entirely different level...one that otherwise could NOT be achieved! MMEB rocks!

  • Manfred Mann- Keyboards/ synt. John Lingwood- Drums. Chris Thompson- vocals/ Guitar. Steve Waller- vocal/ guitar. Matt Irving- bass.

  • man what passion !!

  • as much as I like the Boss, Manfred Mann really polished up this track and Blinded by the Light--amazing stuff

  • This and Blinded by the Light are such amazing songs. It's funny because they are both remakes of Springsteen songs.

  • Don't forget MM's cover of Springsteen's "Spirit in the Night"

  • is that Chris Thompson on guitar? =)

  • I didn't expect him to play like this either :-)

  • I think this solo is pretty neat..

Wonder why they had another guitarist on some songs while Chris was on lead vocals.. :-)

  • yup

  • Awesome song...I wish it was played as much as blinded by the light. It's better!

  • This interpretation is perfect! No Disco-Beats necessary!

  • GREAT SONG.........

  • Oh, I want to be there!!!! They are very very very good!

  • MMEB's versions reaches the stars. Bruce's original versions SUCKS.

  • the 2 biggest manfred mann songs are bruce covers....says something about their quality.....

  • Listen to this one´s chorus, it is very different, and that it is not the only part...

kind of improvement in dramaturgy...great piano and organ work...Just listen to the original work of Bob Dylan and his covers.

  • Bruce is a good writter but sucks as a performer. Manfred kicks ass. These are real musicians. Bruce needs to just put down the guitar and keep the pen in hand

  • Is this a remake of the song of the Disco Boys ????

    haha !!! just fun

    love this song.

  • This and Blinded by the Light are better done by Manfred Mann. That is sad that a remake of a Springsteen song sounds better than he does, even though that isn't too hard to do.

  • the best...! :)

  • wow...what a great song

  • i find it telling that MMEB covered three of Springsteen's songs from greetings from asbury park. They must have really liked that album. Springsteen is the best.

  • far far better!

  • I love this

  • TIMELESS!! Real Rock N Roll!!

  • Man, war das eine geile Zeit!

  • Yeah right! Just like he did Blinded better....not!

  • i have to say the cover is better.

  • All three of you, stop worrying about who did it better and just enjoy the music, Bruce did write it so I believe him and them are equal because of that. Rock on.

  • Bloody brilliant guitar solo on top of a great song performed by a great band.

I´m gonna buy a live DVD, that´s for sure!

  • old songs bring back so many memories

    priceless

  • One of the Best BAND Ever....

  • wieso Bohlen?^^

Manfred Manns Earh Band...also bitte

    Top...Manfred Mann....

    duwadidi dididam didi du xD

  • Ott voltam ezen a koncerten! De jó volt 20 évesen!:)

  • Was this concert in the Népstadion?

  • unbelievable, this is rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Thats some motherfucking playing nfrom that ripping kick ass guitar solo to the banging drum solo, todays artists just don't get it, that is pure fucking maerican rock n roll baby.

  • Ahem..MMEB is a British band. But iagree with your comment

  • Can you get this concert on CD?

  • At least I know it´s available on DVD. Buy it.

  • What a voice Chris Thompson has!!!Majestic and dramatic, love it :).

  • The best version!!!!

    Great and TOP

  • super Song, Live-Version noch besser als Studioaufnahme

  • Mesmerizingly fantastic. I've always liked the song. Now, I've been watching it daily since finding it here.

  • Best version of this song I've heard.

  • thats real music.

  • just did a wiki search his first band was mann-hugg blues band oddly amusing to me

  • Terrific voice, blistering solo, wack drum fills.

  • Thanks for the trip to the past

  • They were in Lille (france) in 1984 (or 83) for this show, that was the release of somewhere in afrika.Being a young band, to see them play was incredible, so professional so easy for them to perform all songs(Let's fell the power used to play.............)On background I remember the 2 "manequins" moving along the stage; on background a screen on which a different movie was played for each song.

    great

  • i m not sure but i think we don t hear the entire guitar solo.

  • thank you Velubyy...

  • great live performance! nice guitar and drum solo!!! i really love this song :))

  • and a great vocal..lots of passion :)

  • MMEB forever!!!

  • MMEB !!!!!!!!!! Hammer

  • great song. does anybody have 'stranded in iowa'?

  • Thanx for sharing!

  • Amazing live performance! I love Chris Thompson's dramatic vocals! Bruce Springsteen's live solo performance on piano during his Born to Run tour is the only version that comes close to this.

  • this is better than the original version. Thanks for posting the vid. BTW, I wonder if somebody could also make 'Question' available. Greetings from Java Island

  • Just for the others:

THis is not Spam - this is an opinion. I really don't care much for those uninspired discoboys, but leave ariano his opinion and dont duct-tape him.

  • Sorry that was meant as a comment to some other comment. I think it's ok to press the thumbs down if someone dislikes a comment. But as long as it refers to the video it's not spam. So even if someone praises the disco boys or Bruces "original" it's what these comments are for: expressing opinions and commenting. Marking something as Spam is for hiding comments that really don't relate at all or contain unnecessary flaming etc. I still like this live version most - so far for my own opinion.

  • when i first got into aor/album rock in the early 80's, i used to looooove this song...i wasn't aware back then bruce springsteen wrote it....chris thompson has a great voice, very underappreciated.

  • Great vid thanx for posting

  • Is Manfred the guy playing the piano?

  • Yes Manfred is playing the keyboards and doing back up vocals

  • in the spring of 1980 i saw them live in Heidelburg germany next to the famous castle, i still remember that concert, they had a big moviescreen behind the band and were playing all kinds of ( trippy stuff) on that night

  • You can almost tell it is a Springsteen song without knowing that he wrote it. I've never heard Brucie's own version but this one is excellent. Is this the same singer who sang on Blinded?

  • I LOVE this song, thank you so much for putting it up! The live performance of Chris Thompson makes it even more adorable. Had to immediately by the Budapest Live CD after seeing this :-) ...

  • blinded by the light and for you very great songs :D

  • is this on cd?i wore out 2 lp versions of this album.

it had stranded in iowa on it also.

  • Manfred Mann KICKED ASS on this clip.

  • does somebody know an address where i can find the tabs for this song?? icq: 329170437

  • awesome!

  • Bruce Springsteen only wishes he rocked this hard. You think Weinberg's foot is that fast or he could play double bass? You think Springsteen could play a guitar solo of that caliber? Nope-not gonna happen. Thank you MMEB for making something great out of this song.

  • @blur7483 How would they have done with it if Springsteen hadn't wrotten it?

  • I was impressed by this version..

  • GUITAR solo is pretty kool

  • yea mate i agree, u really know wat ur talking about

  • so there might be a big point for interpretation ...

  • this song never went anywhere with Springsteen... Manfred Mann just did a great job of this in the late seventies! Haven't heard the "discoboys" version yet...

  • The Boss asked him to cover these songs I believe

  • A big part of music history! I love it

  • Der Hammer!!Gitarrensolo aber hallo!

  • Oh! This really is one of the highlights from my youth! Great performance.
