Wow the times I had with you guys at the Hopetown Hotel Sydney in my miss spent youth, I'm still PeterPan refusing to get old and behave love to you all wherever you are xxxxx
Hearing this song again had reminded me how much I loved it. I still have the 7 inch single somewhere. Brett Myers was (& probably still is) the coolest guy around. They guy just oozed cool. I have a memory of him in the late 80's/early 90's working behind the counter at Waterfront Records in Sydney. I also have the cd re-issues of Doughboy Hollow & Free Dirt.
only came out on 7 inch here in aus(still got mine, even after all the ex girlfriends record collection stealing/destroying episodes...they really know how to get to what u care about!!) got a live version on the free dirt reissue
I for one would be glad if people stopped posting audio tracks on uchoob with a static graphic image. It's a video site, for *video*. Disingenuous. I love this song... but this just makes me have to look further for a real performance.
@voxpop2000 I understand what you are saying but I see Youtube as an information sharing facility not exclusively a video medium. A lot of excellent music does not have the benefit of video coverage and quite a lot of videos on Youtube are virtually unwatchable due to dreadful visual/audio production.
@voxpop2000 sorry man but i disagree...Ytube has become a gigantic database of human activity...a couple months ago i saw an extraodinairy portfolio of a photographer from Poland, then i listened to a long lost recording of Judy Garland singing Kurt Weil's "Speak Low" with just an image of her...and i though it was FANTASTIC, i mean if you haven't got the moving image and it's not already up, well i don't see why not post it anyway? and if you're looking for sth else well keep on browsing...
heres one for ya.had a howling argument then growly face and swinging arms about taxi at intersection after first big day out.me gone, him way gone(RON)HE GOT TAXI,ME GOT HOME BIT LATE. ALL DAY,WHAT A DAY
Btw these guys deserved to be massive but weren't so for the same reason that other brilliant Australian bands like Triffids and Go Betweens remained virtually unknown to the world at large...they were effectively strangled by a shameful lack of commercial radio support. So now we can all look forward to plenty more Cold Chisel,Nickelback etc rotated ad nauseum...aren't we fortunate.
These guys stayed with me in NYC during their 1990 tour. Great mates, great band. Hadn't heard this song and wonder how on earth it didn't make it onto the album...
These guys are timeless - made a special trip down late last year with mate 'phant' to see them receive a lifetime achievement award from TheAge EG awards at PrinceofWales STKILDA - it was priceless - cheers bod
For the ancient fans who can remember the Trade Union Club, Paddo and Paris Green, when you could drive to anywhere and see them every weekend, when live music lived and breathed in Sydney. All my DP is vinyl, so YT/DP is like unto a new God! There is a town in Australia where Died Pretty is being taught to children and shared with discerning adults and will be played loud and often for evermore!
Ah, the soundtrack of my yoof as well. Peno was such a miserable and imposing stocky little figure at gigs. Strange to see those recent photos of him sans hair and well into late middle age. Such a melancholy but powerful song. Although PsychadelicRoom states this track was not on the album, I'm sure it is on my LP copy of the album. I'll have to go and dig it up from the garage now to prove it though!
At least that's what DP say on their official site. My copy doesn't have it either...still u can never tell with LTD editions, and special editions that vary from country to country and so on... The mystery continues...
I have all of the following albums on CD proper... Doughboy Hollow Every Brilliant Eye Everydaydream Lost Out of the Unknown, The Very Best Of Pre Deity Sold Trace Using My Gills As A Roadmap ...and the only release it features on is 'Out of the Unknown, The Very Best Of'.
Mate - I was there and I remember it really well. They also did "Springfenfall" very well. The intensity of DP was unique - especially on the 1985 E.P. "Next To Nothing"
its a timeless classic and it will remain relevant as long as someone is left to listen.....

For me their 'crossover' song. Should have been huge. Turned me onto them (Triple J) and I got the back catalogue and became a regular at gigs.
Thanks for this. No longer have any DP, in any format.
