Does anyone have a clue where I could find the song that plays when Johnny and Kathie are escaping the mob on his motorcycle? I loved that sound... The slow one.
Most of this chart could have been written and used as a theme much later on--one of those QM Productions cop shows of the 60s, for instance. Sounds like the composer and the band were channeling Kenton.
This version of "The Wild One" is not the same as in the movie. The movie version used strings. Shorty recorded two versions of this that I am aware of. One on RCA and one one Decca. I believe this version is the one on RCA. From listening to the movie sound track, I think Shorty was involved in arranging and, certainly, playing some of the tunes but the themes and, I believe, most of the arrangments were written by Leith Stevens.
I got it on a big jazz anthology collection, called 'Les trésors du jazz' (this song is in the 1953 boxset). If you can't afford this collection, I guess you can find this song on the soundtrack of the Wild one?
are all from the movie "The Wild One" and can be found on Shorty Rogers, the architect of big band west coast jazz featuring Stan Kenton,Woody Herman,The Lighthouse all stars,
& the Shorty Rogers Giants with Leith Stevens...by Giant Steps Records GIST 009
