  • This song brings tears to my eyes it reminds me of my child hood growing up in the 70's nothing is better!

  • Right beside "New World Symphany" as a running tune on the list of "gotta here it at least once a week at volume" . . . part of the "Good Day to be Alive" list . . .

  • Second to none. EWF's music is eternal.

  • Verdine rocks! ; )

  • At 5:17 or 5:18 near the beginning of the percussion solo. right on the camera close up of the percussionist. Look at how he closes his eyes. It's almost like he goes into a trance and transports totally somewhere else OMG!!!!Incredible. Love how serious he looks while playing. As though those drums are his life blood. LOVE IT.

My number 1 group of all time. Saw them front row in 79'

  • i love this.

  • なんで気象予報士の平井さんがPercなん?

  • Pure FUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gets me misty ...

  • the only thing that would make me happier (music wise) than listening to this is being ON STAGE WITH THIS!!!! and playing with them also. it would be a great pleasure. thumbs up if agreed.

  • magnificent!!!!!

  • On his documentary video, it would have been nice for Mr. White to mention Sidney Barnes, Minnie Riperton, and Rotary Connection, for inspiring his original E W & Fire concept. There was no solid concept in his mind until he asw us pereform in 1968. He had even asked Minnie and I to be apart of his new concept. But that's alright, I love him anyway.

  • So beautiful

  • Verdine still got it!!!

  • BACK TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH THIS ONE FREEKIN GREAT

  • What happened to the drummer ? I heard he just upped and quit. Just like that. Dumb move I think.

  • @emanuel4 Sonny had been playing with the band for 15 years or something like that, though I dont know about how or the reasons why he left. I've seen interviews with him on youtube and he still classes EWF as friends and says he really enjoyed his work with them, plus they were his big break i think really. He plays with other people now as well as session work, and it doesnt seem that he fell out with EWF.

  • The Alto Sax Player is very best !!!! Congratulations

  • This is stil a great song today,Time has not changed Soul

  • i need to see them live again.. they are incredible.. saw them in CLEVELAND OHIO at the Nautica (now plain dealer pavillion)!! outside event.. great time..its impossible to just sit in your seat at this show.. much talent!!!!!

  • Incredible this song, good melody and the voices sobrenatural. 5*****

  • Can anyone who owns this cd (or the Gratitude one) tell me what two names you see when you look under the title? I see M. White & J. Lind (songwriters).

  • Maurice White and Jon Lind co-wrote this song. Maurice arranged it and EWF along with Ramsey played it. PERIOD!

  • I'm the wrong person to address that to. I was attempting to tell others what you just said. It doesn't work.

  • LOL...nah I was just backing up your statement. I thought you wanted someone else to reaffirm who wrote the song.

    =0)

  • Oh, I gotcha. Thanks for that, buddy. Sometimes, YouTube (being faceless) is difficult. :)

  • Check out the live version from the Gratitude album. It kills!

  • FANTASTICO

  • The concerts I saw where greatest pleasure.

  • so jazz...

  • Just figured it out thanks for the video still the quality is great.

  • Hey was watching your video and wanted to know how did you get the video to be larger then the standard video view, is it a special membership thing. Let me know. By the way thanks for the videos, love EW&F.

    Peace

  • Awesome!!

  • Ramsey Lewis wrote Sun Goddess

  • No he didn't. Maurice White & J. Lind wrote this song. You should find out facts before posting comments. And, people actually gave you thumbs up. Unreal.

  • Perhaps you need to buy the album!! The 1974 album, Sun Goddess, Produced and Arranged by Ramsey Lewis, along with Maurice White, and performed by Ramsey Lewis, Maurice White, et. al, John Lin is not attributed as the songwriter.

  • You'll find out the truth soon enough. When you do, you'll also discover that Jon Lind is the way he spells his name & songwriting & arranging are two different things. I can't believe this.

  • I feel your pain, man! I was looking at the number of "thumbs-up" myself. Sad! Every LP or CD that I've ever seen states that the writers are Maurice White and Jon Lind. There's an interview somewhere in cyberspace where Lind actually talks about how the song came about. Evidently, he was just doodling around on an acoustic guitar and Maurice happened to walk in.

    "Say, man, what's that?"

    "Nothin'."

    "Sounds like somethin' to ME."

    "Okay, if you say so."

    Rest is history....

  • That's how Sing A Song came about (as told by Al McKay in SHINING STARS DVD) and he was just doodling and Maurice asked Al "hey what's that"..and as you say, the rest is history! =0)

  • Tfhat Maurice. Always picking up on, spotting or flat out creating brilliant stuff.

  • Sometimes, YouTube can be a little frightening, eh? "We" are a dying breed, my friend. lol

  • Awesome!

  • The conga player/percussionist is the shyt!!!

  • Maurice White did compose "Sun Goddess" along with a studio musician named Jon Lind. Maurice also produced the song.

  • I think Maurice White did compose Sun Goddess along with a guy named John Lind.

  • I know Maurice is not well now,but what about the rest of the original members that are no longer touring? Like Larry Dunn,Andrew Woolfork,Al Mckay, and the other guitar player his name escapes me now. Where are they now?

  • Al McKay created a band of revolving members called Al McKay's Allstars in the 90's. They currently tour several countries presenting what they label "The Earth Wind & Fire Experience". Search for this band here on YouTube because they sound IDENTICAL to what you're hearing now. You can also search for Larry Dunn here on YT as well. Regarding the rest, Google, Wikipedia, etc. should give you plenty to satisfy your curiousity.

  • al an em soundin aight but you know this band is BAD. incomparable relly - phillip, ralph and you know sheldon is bad...also morris as the MD is crucial to how tight they are and the tweaks on the original arrangments. one thing i would say is i prefer the tunes als band picks, they usually stick to the rockier ones...

  • @mistaeric There were two. Johnny Graham, who was with the group straight through 1983 and Roland Bautista, who was with the original EWF and returned to replace McKay in 1981.

  • Génial !!!

  • Rapper E-40 sampled this back in 1997/1998 on a song called "Hope I Don't Go Back"

  • true! good to know

  • Lovely

  • Maurice White...such a great composer...

  • Yes, Maurice White is an awesome composer, but this song is composed by Ramsey Lewis.
