Hi, I Think you have a timing cover from a 1970 modell

The clutch wire attachment is different on earlier modells .

@centersyd: That is correct. In fact, the engine cases on that bike had been re-stamped at some point because they were later model with a different oil pressure outlet and a few other changes. The owner is aware of this. We figured it may well have been a dealer re-stamp at some point in the past possibly due to a damaged engine case or the like. GOOD CATCH!

Yes, a BSA Spitifire is a dual carb motorcycle but the owner specified he wanted to use this Thunderbolt head to make it a single carb. What our customers want is what they get and Randy makes it happen.

With A-65 engines, Spitefires (Lightnings, and Hornets) had dual carbs, not a single carb like the Thunderbolt and Royal Stars. I know, I had a 1967 Spitfire Mk. III

Beautiful work!! But, I don't think it's a Spitfire. Spitefires, Lightnings, and Hornets had the dual carb A-65 engines. Thunderbolts and Royal Stars used the A-65 engines with a single carb. I know, I had a 1967 Spitfire MK.III; sure wish I'd kept it!!
