Well i see a flaw in your test, there is a coating on the "antenna pad" that kipkay takes off w/ sandpaper, and i didn't see you do that. I think you got extra range by simply taking off the plastic shell.. so maybe sand it down and give it another go?
I own a 97 Buick and the transmitter is the samesame for my car. I sanded the antenna and it now transmits much further.

i know im only 13 but put your (key thingy lol) against your forhead =)dad used to do this to increase rangeof unlocking and re-locking
