One of my most favorite places on earth is that lookout tower... my uncle and I have hiked that thing at midnight - got to the top and played a game of chess and fell asleep... another time I found the lookout was open... It was cool inside.
The exact coordinants of the approxamate center of the forest on google earth are 39degrees, 35 minutes 04.80 seconds north by 120 degrees, 37 minutes, 44.61 seconds west sitting at 7161'. Be really carfull, thats prime lion country. I haven't been there for 10 years, but there was deffinatly one living there then. If you find that you have walked between a female mountail lion and her cubs, you'll die.
I grew up there and treked almost every part of that mountain. There is a small patch of forest sitting on a shoulder ar around 7000' that you can see when you are comming down from bassets. Take the PCT from loves falls up the buttes till you get above the timberline, then walk strate up the lip, the forest has amazing shaped trees, and there is a lange slanted stone coverd in hyroglyphs. It sits at the foot of the most massive of the peaks, which is towering 1400' above you.

Way cool! I think my parents took me up there as a kid. Since, I still go camping at Sand Pond, and always hike to Upper Sardine Lake.
