@wwwdeltastormde What doesn't make sense??? I am a electrical/Lighting maintenance engineer by trade. I look after 33 Schools (5 LARGE comps) 31 fire stations and a shit load of shops. I have to go back and remove pieces of crap like this when they pack up after a few months as i did in a large store only a few weeks ago! Out the the T5 Sleeves and back to switch start with Philips 840 lamps. Over all brighter shop more reliable lighting. Just uses a bit more electric.
So what happens if you don't take out the starter??
This is shown in a fixture with a Preheat (SwitchStart) ballast....hmmm wonder what'd happen if you put this unit in a light with a Rapid-Start or SRS ballast??....probably something along the line of BBZZZZTT POP! ??
@Y0uTube235 LOL gotta admit that'd be fun ... done outside ofcourse :) Magnetic Instant would probably fry it for sure since that can be 700+ volts .. In reality Rapid-Start would probably just do nothing LOL
there is no point in this if you require an high output bulb say i wanted to use 39 watts of power so i get a 39 watt t5 and the same in t8 i use them both in separate tanks and put the same corals in both in the t5 tank ill have much more growth and healthier corals than in the t8. this is the result of the higher output of the t5 bulb all you are doing in reducing wattage is reducing light output so its better to use the same power but t5 bulbs so whats the point. just get t5 starters n bulbs
I'm sorry, but the T5 might have comparable brillance, but gives there less then half amount of light, so unless there were too much light, no energy saving, (you would need twice as much such fixtures.
@medabrundibar that's wrong! Please compare 14 Watt T5HE (f.e. Osram 1.350 Lumen) with a standard 18 Watt T8 (1.350 Lumen). Now please tell me what's the difference here? :)
@wwwdeltastormde: The F18T8 system consume about 28W (10W losses for the ballast choke)
So to save 1/2 of power, you would have to operate the lamp at maximum 9W (F18T8 choke losses would lower at lower current, so i guess ~5W; 1W count for losses in the F14T5HE electronic), but this would mean about half of the rated light output...
There is an electronic converter inside the adapter. The former ballast stay in place and act just as a resistor, removing the old ballast can reduce the wattage but can also result in a nice blast if somone put back a conventional tube.

Or maybe an Electronic Instant-Start Ballast??

@Y0uTube235 Your father hates what sorry? T12 or these crap T5 adapters? Yeah T12s work on any ballast, from Quickstart to Electronic ;)

So the T5 bulb runs off the same magnetic ballast as the T8? Or is there an electronic ballast in there someplace? thanks
