Mine also has a little flex in the keyboard torwards the bottom right hand corner. But more importantly I have some play in my batter like when I pick it up and set it down the I feel like a rattle or something almost like the battery doesnt fit secure like there is play in the way the battery connects to the laptop. Has anyone else expierenced this?
please look at this youtube video --> /watch?v=wg1GtG-KV6I
it shows the problem with dynamic switching and OPENGL not being supported by the current DELL driver. There is no mention of this issue on the DELL website so look at ideastorm for the latest updates on this issue.
It appears that several AMD RADEON drivers have this problem with switchable graphics. Looks like NVIDIA OPTIMUS is better than AMD at dynamic swtching. I came to know of this after buying a vostro 3550 , so please research and then take a decision.
For those opting for the AMD RADEON GRAPHICS, please do a search on Google for this "vostro 3550 opengl problem"....
The GRAPHICS SWITCHING feature does not work properly. This issue is preventing the AMD graphics card from switching on automatically and only the internal Intel graphics is being used. So the AMD graphics becomes useless. Dell is working on this issue but it has already taken them 3 MONTHS and still NO SOLUTION.. by the way HP has announced a fix for their laptops

Good review. I handled a vostro 3450 a few days back and found the plastic around the screen was not as solid as might want it to be. May wanna check that out.
hey, i was wondering. DELL dont seem to have any batteries listed for this model on thier site. But some looking round i did suggested to me that the battery is the same as the inspiron 15R and 17R series. I was wondering do you have either of these lapops round which you could test if thats true?
@MicrohoundComputers Is this laptop good for video editing (Sony Vegas Pro.10) and casual gaming like Team fortress 2 or Gta 4? I am mainly going to be using this for editing clips of my Hauppauge HD PVR from the xbox. The desktop is a bit slow using sony vegas and I think this laptop will be less slow due to the better proseccor, ram, graphics card etc.. Does this also come with the AMD Radeon graphics card and do you think this laptop should be ok for my needs? :D
damn this is the third video m watching about this laptop...but couldn't find the speakers...this is suppose to have speakers right...i can hear them sound, but where are they ???
Looks like it is impossible to install Ubuntu 11.04 from a CD or USB key, neither ia32 nor amd64, at least on *my* 3550. I called Dell support and, after 20 minutes or so of billed communication, they told me "Live CD are not supported" (which does not seem to mean much : if you can boot - and you can - what happens next depends normally of the software you boot, not of the hardware anymore; or does it ?). I was the happy owner of a Vostro 3500 and am MAD at Dell for this swindle of 3550 !
Really a nice qualitity of this video. But you could have told us some more details refering to the battery life and the display. These aspects would have been far more interesting than the software.
Hey, can you help me out. What is the maximum upgradable RAM and Hard Drive for the vostro 2450 and 3550 and are there speakers and are they good enough?
I just bought a Vostro 3550. the keyboard does flex a bit in the bottom right hand corner and the arrow keys make a different sound when pressed compared to the rest of the keyboard keys. Did you notice this issue?
@paba002 It does make a little different noise, but I wouldn't call this an issue. Does not affect the performance of the machine. Thanks for your comment.
Hey MicrohoundComputers, ive ordered two of these a couple days ago. Just saw the "Vostro 3550 "evil touch" reset video.. Could you check if that happens on yours?
I bought this laptop...Actually, thanks to you! haha. I'm using it ... right now. I do find that the resolution is a bit... low, as my old computer (Inspiron 6000) was a much higher resolution, but it also is a consumer machine, which must be considered when buying a laptop.
It's a great laptop, and INCREDIBLY light for all that it can do. Perrrrfect. There's barely a fan sound, it's pretty strong and the keyboard is a DREAM. Gotta love the light up feature.
@OmarLovesBarbii They are both similar laptops, I personally like the 3750 because it has a larger screen and it has a dedicated numeric keypad. Thanks.
@Zenitune I think the 3550 has a little better edge, being the redesign. You benefit from stronger processors and you have a nicer keyboard and you also have USB 3.0. Thanks for the questions.
That is one "aware" video. =p

Nice Video, hey men how about the Matte surface of the screen, is it a issue or bad for image qualit? tnx
XIIDiego 9 months ago
@XIIDiego matte screens are only slightly less sharper than regular, but are considered better because they stop light reflection.
