  • i love this!

  • How did you dye your hair that color?

  • @aynakodelsey My hair is always this color. See my hair dye videos 'Let Me Dye in Peace' and "Seeing Red'

  • Beautiful! You really look like Lucille with the hair!

  • LOVE IT

  • Is there any way to do this hair style a different way? I don't have pomade or hair combs or sponge rollers. Can I do it with pin curls and bobby pins? And what about a substitute for pomade? My friend and I are having an "I Love Lucy" marathon at her house and she is dressing like Ethel and I'm gonna be Lucy since I have red hair lol.

  • @PresentingLilyMars sure...just tryout different things!

  • :O This is awesome

  • I think your grandmother looks a lot like Fran Drescher, just with Lucy hair. Very pretty, and great female comic combination, lol.

  • you make this look so easy!! but i don't think it is... i'm doing a report on lucille ball, and my teacher is having us dress up as our character and do an interview, so i want to do something sort of easy.

  • @LocoRocoFreak very easy...can't go wrong w/ tight curls.

  • I know this was sped up but DAMN!!! you did that super fast!! I would have taken me a half hour just to pin my hair up! This is a great tutorial, though!

  • im doin this on my manakin for school lolol

  • I love this. You look alot like Wilma from the Flintstones.

  • Great style. i liked the Rickey video pic! Funny

  • You are fantastic! Thank you for making this, I always wondered how to do this.

  • Your grandma does look like Lucy , my grandpa looked quite a bit like Desi in his younger days XD lol

  • Oh man! I tried this last night and ended up with a terrible 'fro!! What I'd love to see is a before (your hair, plain...so I can see how long it is), all the rollers in place and what size you used, and the BACK with rollers in! I have longer hair than you, I think (5 or 6 inches on top?) and it took the curl SO well...I also couldn't get a nice "bang" in the front...they curved and twisted all over the place!! Sigh! Any tips for me??? I have naturally curly hair to begin with...

  • @flashnflaky Sorry you're having trouble. :( You can se my hair plain in many of my videos...my recent Tinkerbell inspired video for instance. And do you not have bangs? If you are trying to create a bang appearance w/ out bangs in your cut then it will be difficult. Try brushing sections of the frizz against your hand to piece out the curls, as well. ;-)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I sort of have bangs...the top of my hair is all about 6 inches long, up to 10 at the bottom back, with layers. It's the closest I could get to a "middy" without lots of work, as I have curly hair. My hair is VERY fine and fairly thin. I just found that the curls were WAY too small when done with the small foam rollers. Like seriously afro small!! The curl wouldn't stay in a roll shape no matter what I did (even with a bigger roller).

  • @LisaFreemontStreet I figured it out! Yes, I'd need bangs for this style...but I DID manage a side-swept updo...I learned to roll less tightly and use a bigger roller for my hair. I uploaded a little vid showing it...check it out!

  • @flashnflaky You might try using a setting lotion and brushing the curls out individually after they're dry...also roll barely damp hair, not wet. THat will make a big difference. Since my hair is so thin and fine, it also has a tendency to frizz w/ the small rollers. Don't give up on trying this style if you like it.

  • On most episodes of the tv show, she had a very tightly rolled french twist in the back. Nice job!

  • @debbiechickie5 I was going off of the photos but I think you're right! haha

  • i did a hairstyle like this in my cosmo classsssss anyways it looks really pretty =]

  • Your grandmother is beautiful!

  • @fcdmm97 Thanks so much! I thought she was lovely...like a combination of Lucille Ball and Loretta Young. :)

  • What's That 1st song?

  • What's That first song called?

  • @dll0990 Check for annotations on the video...if there isnt one, let me know. :)

  • @dll0990 make em laugh, from singing in the rain :D

  • So if I have naturally tightly curly hair, I can do this no problem? Thanks!

  • @Victorian9322 yep...Lucy has that type of hair. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Thanks! :D

  • Gosh, I never liked Lucy or her hair. You pulled if off, though, as usual. :)

  • woot woot Im not the only one who says anyhoo.

  • I love how you do a tribute to many of the great actresses of the past.

  • Oh my, thats fantastic! I'm a huge lucille ball fan and I've always wondered how to do her hair. Thank you!!

  • Not sure how I missed this one -- it's wonderful. Great job! And...I *do* LOVE Lucy.

  • Thank you! I'm a naturally curly gal and this is the first (and only) how-to for the poodle do, at least on humans. ;)

  • Whoa! This is so great! You look just like Lucy!

  • So.. How long does your hair have to be to pull off this look?

  • @sammmyyurbina

shoulder length or longer, Id say. :)

  • i have a lot of fine to medium hair and the combs never seem to stay in place any tips on placement or product that might help keep them in thanks!!!1

  • probably the wrong combs...I have fine hair and these puppies don't go anywhere. They're 'goody's combs...two for 97 cents at Wal Mart.

  • I always tried this hairstyle ive gotten it pretty good but this has to be the best lucy style ive seen! what combs do you use for the sides and bottom? :) ahaha!

  • They are Goody's combs that you buy for around a dollar a pair at Wal Mart. They need to be flexible and somewhat large; most combs do not work as well as these.

  • I love this hairstyle, thank you for taking the time to do it. Your grandmother actually looks like a cross between Fran from the Nanny and Lucy.

  • This was such a cute tutorial Ashley. XOXO

  • So cute! And your haircolor is perfect! I'm gonna try this soon, i accidentally cut a bit too much of my hair so i have almost the same lenght as you

One question, how where the rollers placed? Can't really see the sides and the back, 1 row or 2 rows around or? And mabye next time you could place the camera a bit higher or if you could sit down ;)

  • When I sit down, my current lighting casts my hair in darkness. See my 'Tips for Brushing out a Retro Set' video and this will be evident. I think I described the setting in the text. If not, it's probably a case of my just throwing them up there with no rhyme or reason. :)

  • wow the resemblance is incredible you actually look at her at times! and i love your choice of clothes to make the look more complete hehe

    Kudos!

  • You are too cute! Ok, so I have a couple of questions. Where did you get your side combs? I got some from Wal Mart and they are too big and flimsy, I had some nicer ones from Walgreens before.

Also, you mentioned in this tutorial that you did sponge rollers to the scalp. So, usually (like for other 'dos) when you do sponge rollers, you don't roll all the way to the scalp then?

  • Believe it or not, the Goody's sidecombs from Wal Mart are the best I've used. The hold so tightly! Alot of combs will slip and not stay in my fine hair but I've never had that problem w/ the Goody's combs and they are only 97 cents a pair. Heather from Belle Blossoms also uses them in her floral combs that she sells.

If you go back at any video that starts w/ a roller set, I will usually mention whether to roll the hair 'off base' (which means not all the way to the scalp) or all the way in

  • Ok, cool. I think the larger ones I got are not the same as the others I've had. Can't remember the brand. The Goody's ones are the ones I've gotten at Walgreens. For some reason that's the only store here that has them! LOL I have to go get more since my sister keeps stealing them for her own vintage hair dos. :)

  • I love your hair colour! Made me wanna go to the hair dresser right now and do what I've planned for a while; dye my hair more red!

Love the music and you remind me a little bit of Lucy ^^

  • FABULOUS! I can't wait to try this out. It doesn't look too complicated.

    Thanks for the great videos!

  • you have the perfect hair color for lucy

  • There is a lady that comes into the salon every week. She gets her hair done exactly like this. (she's in her 50's) I did it for her once instead of her reg stylist. I was so scared I was gunna mess it up. But I didn't lol.

  • this is so perfect. especially casue u are a red head I love it xo

  • I LOVE LUCY!!!! You make a great one =)

  • you make such a good lucille ball!

  • my hair is super long how do i mange this?

  • You couldnt achieve this exactly but you could roll your hair in sponge rollers and then do small pincurls all over your head after you put it up in the combs. Lots of bobby pins required. :)

  • You should start a hair stylist profile on ModelMayhem! You can meet models and photographers in the area to do work like this. I really thing you could go far with everything you've done so far! Love your work!

  • I wish! I'm not liscensed so I don't think I could do that. :(

  • i love love love lucy!!

  • only you and Lucille could wear that and still look cute!

    :-)

  • Great job! Thats an easy updo.. but like the last reader said.. it seems like an updo for an older person..

Keep up the Great Hair Styles!

  • I don't think it is a good hairstyle for any age, personally. But it is authentic and definitely speaks of the era. .

  • @LisaFreemontStreet

    I agree :)

But.. let me just say.. you look good no matter what hairstyle you do! :)
