  • ellaskins, why and how do you understand that you have to bring in track number 2 at 2:37?

    sorry for my bad english

  • I would be really careful using this type of mixing, cause there's no worse partypoop then when the dj switches track at your favourite part of a song.

  • This is not new stuff but I'm glad that he is sharing his knowledge with us!

  • @robbbobobbbo look at when this video was made

  • Hello,

I'm new in dj land :)

    I had a question.

How you guys make sure the beat starts excactly when you push play on the cd player of your dj set.

Sometimes, the beat starts a little bit later then the start of the song.

    Please help!

  • @gerardtrees1 What prog are you using?

  • @darkitachi50 I'm using a behringer djx700 and two american audio cd players

  • @darkitachi50 but I think I found the solution. When I hit cue the song starts excactly at the beginning. Thanks anyway

  • @gerardtrees1 you need to press the play/pause button twice and then press the cue button that way the song wont start from the beginning the song will start were ever you paused it

  • @gerardtrees1 you need to press pause on the spot were you want the beat to come in press pause twice and then press the cue button and then the beat will come in strait away

  • @TrixstaJonesy Thanks man!

  • @gerardtrees1 Move the jog wheel to the right point.

  • @gerardtrees1 Move the jog wheel to the first kick.

  • @DutchHouseBangers Thanks

  • DJ AM had this down to a science.

  • techno and house are easy to mix - try rap , r&b or dancehall - datz real school ... :> Yaw !

  • hey J im kinda new to dj stuff but if i buy a behringer eurolive b212d PA and a pioneer dj controller do i need another mixer or can i just plug in the PA`s inte the inbuilt mixer from the controller? and im also wondering if i dont have the controller and dont have a mixer can I still play music whith my PA`s connected to an ipod or another source? please need answer :)

  • has any one thaught about mixing slow songs??

M N M when I'm gone -- R Kelly I believe can fly -- Out cast, Ms. Jackson -- Chevelle The clencher -- Brian Adams everything I do I do it for you -- AHA Take me on -- Mr. Big To be with you?? why is that all the "how to" mixes I find are all done with "dance" house/techno/trance music?? what about rock/metal and balads??

  • @DJChafe Those styles you`ve mentioned house/techno/trance are made for djs, they have intro and outro to make the mix easier and smoother. Some other styles arent made for djs, they are mainstream commercial tunes and have 10 sec intro. Hip Hop usualy(not always) doesn`t have that intro and outro bit, so you gotta know a bit of scratching to make good mixes.

The other styles you asked about, pretty much, be creative, use some filter or an echo and make a smooth transition. Good luck mate! ;-)

  • @Tulhera aahhhh yes, creative is fun but make a chalange and try somthing like jazz/blues mixed into house/techno!! I'd love to c some one try that!!

  • I mix dancehall soo u have to know how 2 mix interally

  • as a brand new hobby/wedding/etc dj, this video is probably one of the most helpful ones ever

  • I have a question, howcome you're moving the jog wheels then moving the speed when you can just play the song in your headphones and move the speed to sync them??

  • bro ur the shit ima b famous cuz of u

  • How many deck and mixers do you have ??

  • very good thanks

  • what is the name of the tracks that are playing??

  • very good tutorial !!! thax man

  • thumbs up if you search trough the comments for coolman471 :P

  • Is it a good idea to bring in a song near the end of another song like in the last :30-:15 seconds of the song?

  • @wrestlemaniac202 it a good idea to mix intro into outro... you will find after about 1min(with 128bpm) everysong "changes" which means his intro finishes... you will also find that everysong changes about 1min befor it finishes... thats the outro! this only counts for electronic/dance music ;)

but theire are way better explanations out there then mine ;)

  • This helped me out a ton! We're a duo that mashes up two stylez (dance/all else) and this is exactly the kind of stuff we gotta practice

  • His shirt: Disco Sucks... Again :P

  • is there actually one single room in hour house, with no kind of DJ equipment at all? ;p

keep up the good work, very nice tutorials

  • i would like to know can you do a mix with heavy metal music?

  • @djjamingman with more metal? or a different genre?

  • @djjamingman well metal and rock is a different beast, you cant really do a whole lot but crossfade between songs at the outro/intro and try to blend them as much as you can so you dont have to hear silence

and i think thats why most dj's get into electronic music, cause there's more to work with

    just my opinion anyways

  • this is very helpful thank you very much bro you r the man!

  • Grüße Fräulein, Sturm-Verbot-Führer, the rough boy can do it for you' the Earth writes to the right

  • First song = "The Cure And The Cause (Dennis Ferrer Remix) by Fish Go Deep feat. Tracey K"

  • You should try mixing drum and bass, muchos fun

  • duuude i love your tuts they taught me so much. cud u plez give me the model of the mixer with turntables ur using in this vodeo

  • HOW many sets do ya have ! :O ?

  • wheres the laptop?

  • @nanokid10 CD's ??

  • is there a video on how to flow a set, as in say bring it up and down. For example for me to go from 80bpm to 130bpm it will take me liek 1.5 hours. But your suppose to go up and down a couple of times. So i would like tips on how to speed up the process without changes the pitches way too much.

  • i think it's more about changes like 126-129bpm..

  • @Shitfuck341

Make it half BPM of the other track then. U can take the 80bpm track to 65, and keep the other one at 130bpm. Or play a little with it, as 80bpm is quite slow..

  • @Shitfuck341 throw some delay over a short sound (vocal or a stab in the track, or even a backspin or scratch) and let it fade out, creating a short break before mixing in the slower/faster tune. it may be a bit drastic, but it can turn out pretty good if your timing is right

  • @Shitfuck341 if you're playing a track in 80 bpm and want to go to a track that has 100 bpm, you could change track at the drop if you know what i mean :) but it's hard to go from 80 to 130 bpm directly, wouldn't be so easy to dance to that mix ;)

  • Thanks ALOT Jhonathan

i just bought this gear and this was really Helpfull man =)

    A+ !!

  • being a good dj is hard. at least its hard once your learning

  • I have a question about connecting the CDJ 400 / DJM to a pc or laptop with DJ software.

I have 2 CDJ 400 and a DJM 400 and im thinking of getting traktor pro on a laptop or something. How does it work exaxctly? Will i lose sound quality by running my stuff through traktor and then through my mixer ?

  • Virtual DK packages like Traktor and Serato come with a USB audio interface that communicates with all of the equipment. Very easy to setup and start using.

  • What does these things cost ? :)

  • them players are like 400 each i think. can get any price range pretty much. mixer will be a couple 100 too. it takes quite a bit of commitment for a hobby lol

  • @Fingerklar

    google it -.- xD

    google for the CDJ-400

  • Fair play you put a lot of time into ur clips. You have a lot of dedication. any how tnx for the tips. Keep her lit bud

  • das hot

  • asshole fliped me off

  • Thank you so much, you are always a help

  • like your video's.

nice that there be people who explane mixing in such a way.

    respect

  • guys im somewhat frustrated - i threw a halloween house party... to get people dancing I played popular hip/hop new stuff with a lot of electronic elements - i transitioned with a rhianna remix to get to my electro house stuff - but people werent dancing as much :C

  • poor you

  • save the 8 characters and just don't reply next time :D

  • listen, the person that wrote that was trying to say

    a) they don't want to read about your woes, and,

    b) you answered your own question.

what i mean by this is - if you're playing at an electro/commercial house club, or even a party where the majority of people are part of the electro house subculture, you'll get a response in the form of the crowd responding well (ie dancing). But you misjudged your crowd as they clearly liked top 40 and you decided to play your own brand of electronica.

  • alrighty mate, here's what you do. You drop one or two electro/house tracks and then drop one top 40 smash. Then you go back to the elctro house. Nothing fancy, mind you, just good steady house. And then drop another top 40. Everyone wins

  • thank u

  • cure and the cause-fish go deep, is first :-)

  • nice tutorial, but doing this on electro house is harder cuz there is more melody and you have to pay attention not to play 2 melodie at the same time!

  • get mixedinkey. it tells you the key of your tracks and you will never miss a mix.

  • en français ça serait cool merçi!!!!!!!!

  • lol! learn english!

this comment definitely confirms the cliché of french people

  • Thanks for the tutorial...can that technique be used on all genres?

  • man can i have the names of those tracks??

  • try reading and listening

  • ellaskins:

You are an amazing guy,and i learnd

    a lott from your videos

    thank you.......

  • @galila50930 except for spelling.

  • dj tutor rocks dude.........

  • That vid made me DJng <3 ^^

  • this tracks could take me on a journey to another club

  • If you mix Trance it´s not possible to mix in the middle of track.

  • sorry mate but course u can u can mix any where on a track mate

  • But if you mix in Trance in the middle you lose the journey, because Trance lifts and then chills and if you mix another tune in the middle of lifting part (breakdown for example) you´ll lose the atmosphere of the first track. But there are some departures of the rules.

  • nope. if the uphill goes at the top on the first track it will flow together so it keeps on top (not 100%)

  • what genre of house music would you call that hes playing?

  • extremely lame house.

  • LOOL

  • haha you always play that first track.... cure and the cause.... its a nice song..

  • Lots of songs start with a beat. Lots of club mixes do. The total tracklength is about 6 of 7 min.

The way explained in the video with remembering times doesn't work for me.

Start track 2 at the beginning, when track 1 begins with te climax. most music has 64 bars (4 beats) for every part. So theoreticly when the climax of track 1 stops, the climax of track 2 should begin.

  • You know what? I get angry when i read something like this, "coolman471".

this video is about explaining things and not about "how he looks". in my opinion sharing his knowledge and give people ideas how things work makes him way cooler then you will ever get, "coolman471".

  • Especially since his name is "coolman471" what'a douche. get a real screen name. just cuz it has cool in it dosnt mean squat.

  • @deinemodda Grüße Fräulein, Sturm-Verbot-Führer, more instruction the best thing, plus the friendly returns it the best one, but without loyalty without the cable people would buy the deaf person of dmc of the person--The donkey the films of the instruction, than does not obtain the objective, if you had ways, than before ten years he had had, in a station of the very better work would be

  • @deinemodda Grüße Fräulein, Sturm-Verbot-Führer, if the new and excellent selections had shaken, the one little gradico the method, that has begun at the outset first sistemazione, benassi of Benny and the type of the assassins of the asterisk of ruined the scene with its poisons

  • then fuck u,asshole

  • I got that setup

  • good job man and good teaching ......but i want to know whats the difference between this dj setup and the dj setup with the disk..plzplzplz i want an answer

  • u have fuckn equipment every where!!!!

  • i want that setup!!

i think i need money first though ahah

  • same

  • man, first of all, gratz for ur skill and ur videos,u are a greath teacher and a very good dj.

There is a thing i need to know,i don't undestand..:(

When u start a mix,and u have xfade in the center with both tracks on, u must reduce the low tone level of one of 2 tracks or can u continue to mix both tracks with the same low tone level? Coz i'm scary for a low tone level overload on the speakers! O_O

Sorry for this kid questions, but i'm really a beginner :( And soz for my bad english. :|

  • make sure that you watch the clip-leds(usually red) on your amp. If they don't light up, youre safe. keep in mind that when youre mixing, the main volume will go up, simply because youre playing 2 tracks.

  • Great information! Thanks for taking the time to detail these tips. :)

  • Mixing the end and beginning of tracks is so boring to me. I'm all about making each set different from the previous. Just don't see the point of simply playing tracks one after another.

I guess lots of people do that, but I'm really into knowing ur tracks and creating completely new songs out of existing songs, as well as making ur own new tracks/loops/samples completely.

  • me too! if you do it from end-beginning, your just a regular (boring) dj

  • It´s abou knowing your tunes...you know break points

  • wat cdj's r dem m8

  • pioneer cdj 400

  • to dj Turt that is asking for allsort but what ever, this vid is about knowing your tunes, each track may have multiple drop in points and the new tune will determine the best one to pick.

  • thank you mate!

  • Hi m8 .just like to say love the informative vids, very helpful. ive seen a few of your vids now and you never seem to be in the same place , how many houses do you have, lol

  • So it is 1:52 a.m. in L.A. California and guess wat Ima go practice mixing with this new knowledge u just gave. thnx!

  • i love this kind of music, what kind of music is this (genre)?

  • It is funky house, I have uploaded a quick mix if your interested, click on my username and it should be listed :-)

  • i think that this only apllies to dance music djs (hard house hard style etc) it seems that all these dj do is make a sort or compilation mix rather than a propa mixing about mix. i mix dnb and i double drop my choons and dnt just string them along when 1 choon is finishing. this dulls the mix so double droping brings loads of energy to the mix. i have neva herd a hardcore, hard dance ect dj double drop!!??

  • I LOVE IT THANK YOU!

  • I WANNA SEE YOU MIX HIP HOP

  • You get "dj kit in a box" but now we have "dj in a box" a small box surrouded by links and other boxes.

Now what you were trying there was to teach the so be "dj" the inner workings of a dj at work, you surley must know you cant teach that!

You dont learn how to construct a set,you construt a set by way of knowledge, not by way of "right bring that one in at the middle stage, then after that bring the other in at the end"

Knowledge and years help you get to the next level.

    Love your work

  • "disco sucks again" ... XD lol

  • lol @ 2:24

This is a good point though, people who don't listen to EDM ask me how I can listen to ASOT for 2 hours all at once- or they'll ask me why they need a DJ if they have a playlist on their ipod. And this is basically what I tell them xD

  • u have a nice bundle there m8 i like the 2 pioneer CDJ-400 and the Pioneer DJM-400 they work great together but ive seen them on a web site i wanted 2 buy em seporated bc the bundel cost 2 much but they coundt match together the DJM wasnt digital and i have no idea how the bundel with 2 pioneer CDJ-400 and the pioneer DJM-400 they could work together if u wanted to buy them seporated they coundt match together little weird dont u think so plz reply this comment i need help m8's

  • I too have the CDJ 400's. When you grab the sides of the jogwheel what exactly does that do? i do most of my beat matching through the tempo and by turning vinyl mode off, i havent used that technique

  • Hell yeah, A good minute to two of two songs on each other is always good. I usually start my 2nd track when the first beat hits of the main melody and force after the build up. The melodies and breaks tend to line up nicely as well.

  • can u mix some dancehall reggae somtime plz

  • I have used many makes of cd decks now and the one i found my self sticking with are the cdj 1000's. Some may say that they are over rated, but they are indusrty standard for a reason.

  • yeah and boy are they pricey!

  • would be better if you had chosen two songs that were more different to each other.. Those club-house tracks are to easy to mix into each other..

  • tnx for ur tips, but u havent talked about one thing yet. What is the best speed for burning CDs to play on CDJ-200 or CDJ-400?

and what kinds of burning?Data? or Audio Cd (audio cd that is mp3)?

    tnx

  • pretty dope... im gona be picking up my set pretty soon here too :D

  • first mix was on wrong beat! how do the cdj400's hold the wen beat mtching compared to the 1000's???? do they hold steady etc??

  • Sure, it's not true but it's a tutorial dude !

  • pioneers are nice but i stick with my denon's

  • Nice J, very nice...

  • pretty good! im in the market for the 800s though..

  • fish go deep is the first track

  • Nice work J - By the way i love cdj 400 ^^

  • I just just applied for finance to get a pair of CDJ400s - I have been waiting for something to bridge the gap between the 200 and the 800.

  • nice one

  • what is the name if the first track? i like that....

  • toons are

left cdj fish go deep " the cure and the cause"

righ cdj indego " save your life"

Look in the description! :) Thx J for this movie!!

  • toons are

  • i love this sound !!! since long time now !!great video ..

  • just some other advice, just got numark icdx and a efx 5000 mixer, great package! n very cheap these days, fast loading. good effects,mp3/dvd/ipod/serato/cue works with them! scratch wheel is ok but not the best, once i get on the case ill load a video

  • Build em up. Drop the track and blow em up. Slow things down a bit to let em rest. Bring em back up again. You cant play club bangers all the time or they lose their value. Take people on a trip with your music.

  • Technwich r better Tecnics or vestax decks

  • these video really help alot thanks man

  • hey jonathan i have a question for u plz help.

i was wondering if u would advise me to get the C.314 cdj from stanton or the T80 vinyl turntable from stanton because i would prefer to scratch vinyl but its IMPOSSIBLE to find vinyl shops here......

    thx mate

  • have you thought of serato scratch live?, you get to use vinyl but you use the music off your pc. j

  • serato scratch is GOOD, but really expensive.

Is there another equipment like that, but cheaper?

  • there are other programs, BUT!! once you buy serato you have it for good and expensive vinyl is the thing of the past. But this is only if you cant afford vinyl or cant get hole of it easy!! j

  • Haha. Awesome shirt Jonathan.

  • to shadowquestion, hey mate im in the same situation as you, i have a low budget and i dont know what to buy. i've been investigating about the stanton c314, and they seem nice to me, especially for a beginner, because they offer you a lot of functions and best of all at an affordable price

  • get some kind of cdj as these are what you need to learn to play in clubs!

  • Hi Jon gt a quick question i just bought a pair of cd players and it worked fine the first day but the next day it wont turn on ive cheked the fuse andall connections. Do have any thoughts to get them workin agen?

    cheers

  • internal fuse? dodgy switch on the back? j

  • i like this tutorial a lot!!!

  • ya john how come u picked the first 3 top winners in the ten mix competition using only vynil, but u use cdjs?

  • just happend, could be all pc next month, or cdj, or cdj, vinyl and cd, j

  • Great Video, perfectly explained to help others understand, and greatly mixed!

  • smooth mix

  • ye, mixing in the middle of tracks is true mixing in my opionion. mixing the last 32 and first 32 beats of every track becomes boring.

by the way greet you adam! ^^ "i can't get no sleep..." sing*

  • Interesting stuff man :)

  • these cdj 200's?

  • 400,
