The third wife was a part of a Qulliute legend. the third wife who sacrifised herself for taha aki. Bella thought that she had the same characteristics as her. You probably skipped that part of the book because it was one of those boring jacob parts

One was about the third wife, who saved her husband by killing herself so the vampire he was trying to kill would get distracted. While Edward, Victoria, Riley and Seth were fighting, Bella felt like the fight was her fault. This song is how she felt during the fight, useless.

She tells storeys really well I couldnt help but cry through out the whole fight between Edward and Victoria, which was kind of annoying since I was sobbing after I finished my science test and not everybody else had. I was the same way the first time I read the books. I'm guessing you skipped over the Indian legends. Billy Black was telling at the bonfire when Bella was there with Jacob. The Third Wife was a story of a human woman. That saved the village from a vampire by killing herself and splashing her blood into the vampires face. Causing it to lose control so the werewolves could take it down.
