Kingdom Come by Mark Waid (NOT RELIGIOUS) got this right. A disaster in the bread basket will result in the greatest disaster in history of Earth. EVERYONE will be starving with in a year. It will be the bloodiest and most erratic Civil War the World has ever known and the ones who eat a bullet are the lucky ones.
In the early 1900's 1 out of every 3 people were farmers. Today it is 1 out of 1,000,000. One MILLION!

Along with that, people no longer know how to make their own private crops. We might know how to do it as a hobby, using prefab bulbs, but not from scratch. The government also pays people not to grow crops to keep the market level. Problem is, we only make the minimal of food required...

So what happens when the next dust bowl happens?
We barely make enough food for everyone.
We are unable to do home gardens.
We will be screwed.
