You guys sound pretty good calling. I'm suprised...most youtube videos when I hear hunters calling make me want to blow my ears out...nice work guys. Great job.
i gotta tell this, this was awesome, I have never hunt duck on dry land, how do you manage to do that? I have hunt lot on or around water, but never on full dry land.
@CarveCraver, I think most everybody else was using 2's. I shoot 2 3/4" 4's. As a taxidermist, I like the smaller shot, but I have pick my shots. As for the chokes, I think all were mod.
@CarveCraver i use 2-4 shot (depends if im hunting mallards) you cant go wrong with 2's... i use a mod/full choke depends how far of a shot im taking anything 30 yards + i use full
I'm sorry then, I inferred by the post hunt pic that the rest were hens and not in pic...My bad :)
I just hate seeing a hen get taken when the chance for many drakes is there...it happens up here alot with all the weeekend guys just trying to knock down their limit as fast as possible and it angers me to no end.
Anyways, I apologize for my assumptions! :) Have a fun safe season this fall!
40 Mallards and only about 1/2 were drakes??? Don't you selectively harvest drakes when you are running 8 damn spinners and have tornadoes of birds working you??? Looked like a bit of flock shooting at one point to me...
Man, if you are guiding flockshooters and henbusters, that ruins the sport. Hope not.
that was some fucken nice shooting... look at those birds come down.. make me so jealous. haha... good hunting. i wish they had ducks like that in MN...
Nice hunt but I find it ridiculous that you have to resort to a whole flock of mojos. Down south we take pride in working flocks in close in the timber instead of putting out mojos. People blasting away with ten mojos in the field is exactly why birds have gotten so much tougher to finish. It would be more admirable to leave them at home and make the hunt more fair and challenging.
Missouri gets lots of "Mallard Tornados." You don't have to go to Canada. I have hunted Missouri for 55 years and even though things have evolved with all the reserves and pressure, it is still fantastic. It just never lasts long enough. There is nothing like hunting Mallards. I have so many Mallard stories to tell and memories to warm me up when I,m hunting Canada geese or catching Walleyes. It's been grrrrreat!!
I used to have a dog that would stay calm and still but after just treating her like a normal dog it got lazy and started to play and jump around more so its no use to use it for that
Hard to finish birds when it's the last day of the season and the mallards have seen "how many spinning wings". and the weather wasn't the greatest. Not the dog's fault !
There was a west wind that afternoon and the sun was setting behind us. If the wind and the sun line up, that is a deadly combination. The sun will cast shadows from the blinds, but if the wind is right, the ducks vision will be hindered. When the clouds roll in, it is easier for the ducks to pick out 8 blinds in a firing line. I also believe the spinners are more effective in sunshine.
wow thats awesome i wish we could have birds work like that down here in tennessee but we usually get groups of like two or three most of the time. looks like i will have to make a trip to south dakota sometime. thought it was funny that the lab had two ducks in its mouth lol.
To keep your dog quiete I have found to put hot sauce in their mouth and if that does not work than spray them with water unless its cold. great video too
steal your wife's black panty hose and put them over the wings on those spinner decoys and those birds will come in better! I believe the falsh on the white pushes the birds off when they get close... Great vid..

Why someone would take a dog that is unsteady and wont lay down is beyond me! Hard to finish birds with dogs like that. Nice hunt though.

yes, you have to aim, and just pick out 1 duck at a time, but it is very tempting to flock shoot, but it usally never works un less u get lucky
Buckmaster2222 2 years ago
do you have to aim or just fire into the flock
andy48101 2 years ago
just point the gun at the flock or bird

They can see down in the rows of corn. With the sun out, there are shadows in the rows. Shadows are good!!!
