@GJNCA I agree K.D was robbed of several Oscars , he should have won one for "Champion" another one for "Lust for Life" and another one for "Spartacus" but because he hired a Commie to do the screen play he was snubbed by the Academy and black-listed. Today he would be honored and called a hero for hiring a commie , my has Hollywood changed.
The family had a steady downhill trajectory from kirk. Michael just wasn't the man his father was. And Kirk's grandson is a drug dealing punk. End of that line I guess.
How about you telling us what the name of the movie that Natalie Wood made with Kirk Douglas that is named in the book? You must have a copy.. Frankly I find these allegations of rape and the people who make them pretty disgusting. In my opinion a person who accuses someone of a crime when they aren't around to defend themselves is libel by a coward.
@Shadow4000000 I think when someone dies we should let them rest in peace. The world has enough evil in it, if we want to fight evil there are more appropriate battle fields. If you don't believe in God, the person doesn't exist anymore. If you do believe in God, then we don't have to do His job for him. Also isn't there a little room for giving someone the benefit of the doubt when someone passes away? Their relatives and friends are grieving and we should at least respect that.
giving someone the benefit of the doubt about what?? I am grieving too I saw his death on so you think you can dance and thought it was one big hoax. but heard it from others that it wasn't a hoax it was real... I know this isn't MJ board but I still miss him along with Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorrey and Dean Martin etc. I only know facts that the case was thrown out because the boy in the trial said that MJ never touched him and he also said that his parents made him do it...
I am not disagreeing with your first statement. I just hate lies. I am also sorry for offending Michaels Parents but I think others who hate him need to leave him alone...
@Shadow4000000 Hi Shadow I reread your original post and it just didn't click that you were talking about Michael Jackson and not Michael Douglas. I'm sorry about that and apologize. I only meant my remark for one event. I didn't realize I was mixing apples and oranges and if I had read your post more closely I wouldn't have made that mistake. Apologies SS.
it is no problem I as well as you and many others hate lies about certain stars that just aren't true. Apology accepted. I don't find many people on here willing to admit when they are wrong.
@smokeysport2 , LOL this is a late reply but she didn't make a film with Kirk, she was supposed to star with him in "The Devil's Disciple" but she refused the role. She never did work with him. Supposedly her private reason is because he had raped her. He did have a thing for younger women (i.e. Pier Angeli) but who knows for sure.
Me too!!!! I always say that to my husband. Even on the Game Show Network they play some awful game shows (although that is just my opinion, I'm sure there are plenty of people who like them) I just wish they'd show more of the classics such as WHAT'S MY LINE...I'm a very nostalgic person and love the old stuff...lol!
@betsiecow You mean these old shows, I take it? because with modern day 'celebreties' it would be dead boring, and you couldn't find panelist members of this level of wit and sophistication.
@betsiecow Unfortunately, cleanliness doesn't sell. These are so entertaining, but doesn't need the grossness typically associated with more modern shows.
As a young girl, I use to love to watch his movies. Spartcus and The Vikings were his best to me. A sweet man to my way of thinking. His son seems to respect him. I don't want to know his background as I find when you look too deep all people have flaws. Including me. But I think he made the world a little better place.
Very interesting clip! Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Mr Douglas had real screen charisma. A world of thanks for sharing it with us! ;)
The rape story first came from a biography of Natalie Wood that was published after her death. The author said that Natalie refused to play in movie "The Devil's Disciple" because of the alleged rape. Problem: that movie came out in 1959. Wood died in 1981 which is an awful long time for such a story to surface. The author refuses to name the actor until after his death and Natalie's not around to ask. Saying such a thing, true or not, would get the biography a lot of publicity.
Secondly, the rape would have to happened around 1952. What was this supposed film they made togethor where the rape happened? The book doesn't say and it wouldn't be that hard to find a movie both made in either 51, 52 or 53.
Maybe so, but five close friends of Natalie's told the author that Natalie was raped, so I doubt the five of them conspired together to make up a story like that. Especially considered the author would not name the rapist, it's doubtful that any of these people were trying to ruin the actor's reputation. Also, Natalie was not the type of person who would publicly say anything overly negative about someone. That's the way she was conditioned.
You need to remember that there are people who would not have wanted something like that to get out - if indeed it did happen. Hollywood isn't exactly squeaky clean - and never has been.
Peter Lind Hayes calls him the "Golden Boy" at 3:49 but is confusing his 1949 film, "Champion", with "Golden Boy", a 1939 film starring William Holden.
According to the Internet, sure. I mean, it's been decided he's the person but Lana Wood has NOT confirmed it, saying only that the person was married at the time, a star, and is still alive. Heck, it could be Jerry Lewis, Rip Torn, Eli Wallach . . . or Kim Novak! Lana Wood says that once the creep is dead, THEN she'll out him. Correct me if I'm wrong, please, because films are ruined for me if it turns out the stars were scum.

The actor in question was also a producer and allegedly lured Natalie to a hotel room with a ruse that he wanted her to read for a part. Douglas did have his own production company at the time. Douglas was also implicated in the disappearance of movie bit-player Jean Spangler in 1949 (that's all I'm saying, implicated). He also broke of his engagement to the much younger Pier Angeli mainly because she wouldn't have sex with him.
If you are going to wait until someone is dead and can't answer, don't accuse someone of anything. Then again, if he did rape someone, he should have confessed it long ago, especially after a religious conversion.
Kirk is definately the most likely suspect, if the rape did in fact occur. Since Natalie never said so publicly herself, we may never know for sure. Since at least five people confirm that she was raped by the same person to me makes it plausible that it DID happen. Douglas has a history of roughing up women and has admitted that he was violent during sex. If he did do it, I doubt if he'll ever admit it.
I remember vaguely the UK version of the show but seeing these a-list Greats like Douglas and Stewart is a real treat, will save viewing the rest for another day. Many thanks to all those who uploaded and last but not least to You Tube who made this all possible! :)
The whole atmosphere so polite and refined for a TV show. The ladies stay seated as he greets them. Tell me where one can go where people treat each other this way? There are some cultures around the world where they have maintained certain protocols of hospitality but we consider them backward and hotbeds of terrorism! Can't we have agreed upon order without insanity, too? Perhaps not.
