Your turtle here is the ruler by which I measure the quality of my turtle care. I would be delighted to have my snapper grow up so beautiful! (So far so good!)
I have never seen a common snapper with that color/ type of carapace. Is this some sort of variation of the common snapper? I have a baby common and his carapace is dark and spikier.
Wow! What nice shell coloration. Wild snappers have the color of well aged mud. Is that better nutrition or lack of algae and mud? I've seen cleaned-up wild snappers and they still have dull coloring.
cool, thats prettty good size how old? i like to find the really old ones with all the moss and and big plates grown on them there are some massive snappers out there lol awesome vid.
Hicks, sand and pebbles can be ingested by the turtle....
Any pebble that is big enough to fit into the mouth of the turtle, will be ingested, and sand and pebbles can cause constipation, or, even worse, an intestinal blok in the turtle....
omg, when i was a kid i found a baby turtle he grew up to look like this, i could never find his name in any of the books, and he smelled funny, i had him for 10yrs before he got to big and i had to release him into a very nice large lake. I wonder if he could have been some type of snapping turtle. He was friendly enough.
"well if it was friendly it wasn't a snapper. they are some of the meanest animals alive"
NOT true. Snapping turtles can be harmful, but they are not mean and will only attack or bite for self defence, if you hold them in the wrong way or if they are under stress.
I was fishing one time and a snapper maybe a lil bigger then yours ate two of my bluegill before I got them in lol I saw him just walk away both times with them in his mouth.
Nice looking snapper. You need to get some stuff in that tank though, like gravel or dirt and some rocks and plants and stuff. They love to dig and hide. They really need to be able to do those things. I've had two common snappers for about 3 years now. I got them as little babies. They were rescued.
My snapping turtle experience tells me that this is not a very old turtle. but I could be wrong. how have you kept it alive so long? my snappes always died after a year when I got them young and the adults wouldn't eat in captivity.
Man, thats a very nice turtle. I remember catchin my snapper when he was about the 3in. and now he's about 14in. maybe more. Yeah I jumped on two small rocks crossing a small stream and scooped him out. That was July 4th 2000. So how old is your guy? And yeah my guy really "loves" his rocks, so should i get him a mate?
NICE. My turtle is only 9 inches but it can still climb and claw it's way just about anywhere, i can put it on a tree trunk and it will climb like it belongs up there.
WOW HIS SOOOO COOOOL!!! but dude you better mind your fingers i wouldnt wana get my fingers snapped of that oooo no way! but anyways i swear that snappers are illegal to keep as pets?
Love snappers! What's his/her name? Looks very healthy and well kept. Did you buy him or catch him? I prefer the bare bottom, too. Nice video. I could look at those guys for hours. Fascinating.
shingle, pebles or bare bottom is all up to your personal taste. but the advantage of having a bare bottom tank is that its much more easier to keep clean. shingle or gravels can trap dirt and wastes, and you need to vacum the gravels weeky or else those muck will build up.
yes :) i have msn, but i dont use it that much. dont really have the time :( should look out for a turtle called "mata mata turtle" they get MASSIVE too. and also they have very different patterns and shape!
Matamatas are awesome. Do you like soft shelled turtles? I know this turtle site called Turtle Man. He sells main alligator snappers, but he might have some matamatas. Oops. Nevermind. My bad, dude. I'll keep a lookout, though. :)
nice i have a african helmeted turtle he is cute :D , in the name it says 24'' i dnt think thts 24 inch coz tht is wa '' stands for lol n e way i may subscribe to u lol....
His name is "BOWSER" named after the supermario boss. yes, its a boy for sure!! i've seen its *** a few times!! i have logs in the tank before, and some time he think it a turtle so he hum away. LOL
Tell us moore wetstock. What his name?I'm guessing its a male cause of the slightly longer tail.I use to have a snapper just like this name him Fury cause it he was by far the hardest turtle I ever cought!Only 1 in 50 or 1 in 100 have the dazziling shell patterns like this one.And I just BET he loves it when you jently rub the back of his shell with the tips of your fingers and thumb. You should do a clip scratching his back for us.
It's rare to see one with a shell that radiated like the sun.Hope you don't give them table scraps. They need whole fish mice, rats ect.Real nice specimen

Beautiful setup and critter. Of course they're happy in muddy ponds with near zero visibility but if well fed they seem to adapt to tank life.
