@TheMAJofficial You know what, you're probably right. I'm the first person who is all for improving things. I'm not stuck in the 60's and fried out of my head and think that everything musical should still be from (or a reproduction of) that era. So many things have been improved so very beyond that stuff. If they can make a string that tastes good and sounds good, I'm all for it. But, they will screw it up somehow. lol They will do steak flavor, but forget the A-1 sauce. lol
I have hyperhidrosis, and I can't feel "all-right" while playing any kind of strings that isn't Elixir. I play Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar, for bass strings I can use other brands, since the strings are thick, but for the guitar, I feel somekind of fear while bending a non-elixir E string. And thanks bro, you saved my money! I was about to order a set of SHIT.. er I mean DR strings.
@luizzeross LOL, I love this post! You are so very welcome and I'm so glad to see that you are a member of the Elixir string family! You just can't beat 'em!
@SiCF1ST Hi my friend. All of the Elixirs have the coating on the plain strings also. Not even a hint of discoloration on any of my 150 guitars that are strung up with these. Even after YEARS. So, don't fear, all 6 strings are coated.
I about the Elixer polyweb not knowing what they are and what they do. Lol but they sound great! I use them for my epiphone les paul and they sound terrific. I have had them for about 4 months now and they still sound great
@xxZMANXX44 That is great! I'm glad that you tried a set and are enjoying them. Love them or hate them.....there's no other strings out there like them fo sure.
I have been using the color coated strings for a couple years now and I agree that the DR's totally suck. I use and recommend the strings by Aurora. The color lasts well but more importantly, the sound is great, and they are very easy on the fingers and quiet string noise. They are a little hard to find and pricey at $10-$13 depending on where you get them. They are the only strings on my small herd of 6 guitars
@tbofilms I grabbed a black set of the Aurora strings by a request for me to try them. I got 20 minutes out of them before they were completely shot and I had to cut them off. That's how bad the acid level is in my sweat. I know that everybody had different chemicals in their body that react differently to every kind of string and every different alloy used. It's amazing that I eat through them all other than the Polywebs. I'm glad that the Auroras are working for you.
@AXfo7 Yes, the Nanowebs are simply the exact same thing as the Polywebs, only much thinner on the webbing or coating. So, it rips easier and doesn't protect your strings for very long. It's like Nanowebs are panty hose and Polywebs are Levi's Jeans.
Ok, thanks a lot, this has been really helpful, but say I'm just recording some heavy tracks and i'll really only need them for a few hours, would you say for close recording that the nanowebs bring out the best in my guitar, or would you say the polywebs deaden the sound a bit more on account of their thicker coating? I have a pair of nanowebs with me and i'm wondering if i should go out and grab polywebs for this recording session... thanks a lot.
@mortemdrummer My total pleasure. Elixir claims that the NANOWEBS are more like traditional sounding strings. I hear no difference at all. I've researched these things into the ground and there is no difference in sound at all, the feeling of both is also non distiguishable (because we have thick callouses on our finger tips...right?..lol). But, the last thing in the world that the POLYWEBS are is dead or even slightly deader than the others. They are the king of strings for sure.Good Luck!
@speedjunkie66 Howdy my friend. I know a lot of folks have been contacting them. So there must be an email address for them out there somewhere. If it's not on their site, it's got to be found easily on Google. Folks have been sending me copies of the letters that they have written to them and the responses that they've gottn back saying that they are not getting rid of them, (even though they are dissappearing....lol). I just picked up the phone and called them myself.
Every time I've tried Elixirs (including the Polywebs) the coating has flaked off. Have you ever had this issue? It's crazy to think you've had them on your guitars for as long as 5 years.
@psyoptica I've never had the coating flake off. If you do....you're forcing it off of there due to your playing style or by wiping your strings down after you play. Any wiping of them will fray the coating right off of them.
@Thorvund1970 Howdy there Cat-Daddy-O-Groove-Cricket! lol That is too cool. Your outlook on what a great guitar string should be will soon be solidified iinto your k'noggin'. lol If for any reason you don't like them....you know who to sell them to.
@groovydjs I bought up the local supply of Polywebs, four sets. That means I will have five Tele's understrung until my delivery comes in. Where do you order your strings? You know as well as I do that I love these strings ;). Plus I play with .010's as they stay in tune a little better for me. I sent you a non-guitar related video via email. Happy New Year my Good Friend!
@Thorvund1970 4 whole sets in stock huh? Your axes will thank you, your fingertips and frets will thank you. I already thank you for trying them out! I'll go check my mail for the video! I get my strings through Music123 but on Ebay, They have the best deals on them anywhere and the more you get....it even gets better. They are free delivery, no tax and a few bucks less than Musican's Friend per set. Can't beat that kind of deal.
umm question man... "what acoustic guitar strings can you recommend???" my coated strings always rusts after an hour. the next time, i changed the the string using the same kind of string (new sets though) and this time i bought some cleaners (Big Bends wipes, and Big Bends fret board juice), but after three days there are some discolorations/rust already in the string.. by the way my current guitar string is DR Dragon string, but its a shame that its just bad.cause i have to change evry 2month
@fetong No problem my friend. The Elixir Polyweb acoustic strings are the only strings to use. Never, ever use any kind of fretboard conditioner. No need for it. The wood is dead and never needs to be treated. Just clean it with some water and then wipe the funk off when you are changing strings and that's it. Never wipe down your Elixir strings, that will take the coating off of them. Just put them on, play them for at least a year, they will NEVER, EVER go dead. Enjoy them! Peace.
@groovydjs but while changing the strings could i give them a little stretch? or stretching them would damage the coating?? while i'm putting them on?
I do have the elixer acoustic nanoweb strings on my $100 dollar epiphone acoustic guitar and they sound great even after three years, I just got a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Stratocaster Electric Guitar so I might get those strings and slap em on there thanks for the info I was going to buy
@slayter202 Awesome my friend! Welcome to the world of Elixir! That is great.....3 years and they are still going strong. No other strings can do that. Let me know how they work out for you on the Classic Vibe. I hear that they are really great guitars that are giving the USA Fender's a run for their money!
Hey Scott. Guess what? Elixir called me back. They said. There is no plans to get rid of the strings the polywebs so. Umm. I don't no what 2 think. I just hope they dont but. Yeah. I wanted to tell u that c what u think of it. I dont no if they're hiding something or not u no. They just better not is all I can say. I will call them everyday till they bring them back. They said no plans to quit making them. We'll see huh?
@jeraldsrestoration Yeah, I've got you and a couple of other people that have contacted them this past week and I've heard the same from everybody. I don't buy it for a moment. The guy I talked to last year was very straight forward. I asked him about the Polyweb bass strings and he said to buy all you can now because they are as good as gone and all the other Polywebs are going right behind them. 3 months later, the bass strings were gone, now the other strings are down to 2 gauges. GOING!
hey i restrung my guitar today and its doing something really weird i think its teh way i string them cause it alaways happens when i put them on and try to play i hold in a fret but it wont play the fret it plays the same sound as the string liek ill hold in the first fret but it wont sound different as the 12th or any of them it just plays one sound can any one help me please im really getting pissed
@dropthedead15 Wow, really bad music on your channel. OUCH! Anyway. You haven't looked up hot to change stings on You Tube? Just wind them down the posts. Never cross them over each other. Put plenty of winds on there to make sure that there is downward pressure on the nut. Your guitar is simply not set up properly. Either your action is too low or you don't have enough relief in your neck. So, raise your action a bit, and try loosening your trus rod a bit and you'll be fine.
@groovydjs thanks i figured out the problem after like three seconds of posting teh bridge was to low and i understand the type of music i listen to isnt everyones cup of tea everyones different and everyone has a type of music but thanks for the tips anyways
@dropthedead15 Cool, I'm glad you figured out that it was something so simple. Yeah, I hear you about musical choice. I checked your channel and that song came on and my throat got sore just imagining having to scream like that all night. That's some angry sounding stuff. Quite the departure from the down home country stuff that I listen to. I'll have to try singing a Hank Williams Sr. song like that and see if it catches on. lol Cheers and happy holidays.
I've heard a lot of bad things about DR strings. I don't like the Blue Steel Cryogenic strings. When i was restringing them, something didn't feel right about the strings. I felt things on the strings. It could have been rust, maybe not. After about 2 weeks, one string already broke and I was trying to preserve the strings with my FastFret too.
@helloimkevin10 You are very correct about the Blue Steel strings. The whole concept is wrong to begin with. So, you have metal strings, you freeze them, then you thaw them out. Water will be left on them, then they rust and go dead before they even go in the package. So, it was a failed plan from the beginning. lol If you ever want to save money, buy rubbing alcohol, put it on your string cleaning rag. It's the same thing as Fast Fret and the others like it.
I play Dr DDT strings and the are amazing. I can't get over the slimy feel of the elixirs. The dr strings I play are not coated just a larger gauge to stay tuned up in drop tunings. I don't like coated strings but not all dr strings are crappy
@FxVodoo This is only about these particular COATED DR strings being total shit, not the others. That would be why I didn't pick on the other DR strings.
hey man befor you ditch earnie balls completely. have you tried their stanless steel strings? and i have tried the red devils and they didnt sound dead. i have never tried elixers tho. too expensive for my taste. I figure the stainless steel strings wouldnt rust from your sweat
@gregory1138 Yeah, the stainless go dead just as fast. Reason being, dirt, dead skin, and other elements get lodged in the windings of your strings and they simply can't ring anymore. So, every brand goes dead due to that. Elixir is the ONLY brand that puts the coating over the whole string (like a condom) other companies coat the string windings before they even wind the strings. So, the same crap happens, more junk between the windings. That's the whole problem with all guitar strings.
@speedjunkie66 You got it my man, I sent you the link. For anyone else interested in saving the Polywebs and killing the Nanowebs, you can go to Elixirstrings dot c o m and select CONTACT.
@SoreEyeMusic Rotosound strings are fair at best. They have been know for decades to be the one brand of strings that will destroy your frets faster than any others out there.
I'd love to use Polywebs, but problem is: My local music store only has Elixir Nanowebs :S So for now, i'll have to go with Nanowebs, but they're Elixir, and as far as i know, all Elixir strings last long.
@SoreEyeMusic Do not support your local music store if they won't order the strings you want. You can get them cheaper online anyway and they will come to you instead of you settling for the nasty Nanowebs. Just because they are Elixir doesn't make them good. That is like saying, yeah, it's an Epiphone....but, it's still a Gibson.....kinda. The Polywebs are 20X longer lasting and better sounding than the Nanowebs. Tell your music store you'll just buy them online. And do. Save some cash.
I hear everything your sayin. I've been talked into all kinds of coated strings includining the dr's. Our music stores have something against elixirs around here. But I've got the same sweat issue as you, and the elixirs are bulletproof against it. LOVE em.
@brotherincognito1 Yeah, most music store employees are guitarded and only like what Hendrix played. Hendrix didn't play Elixirs. lol So, that is the mentality of most musicians. And the folks at Guitar Center, that is simply back to the GUITARDED thing again, just more so. Most of their employees were working at McDonald's last week. lol
Ive used ghs strings for a long time and others and all of em have discolored and rusted but not the elixir strings, they rock!!!!! I can shred with these and i play eveyday
@speedjunkie66 I hear you my friend. THey are great aren't they!?! Do me a favor and join us in writing to the folks at Elixir and trying to stop them from from discontinuing the Polyweb strings. They have already killed the bass strings and are only down to 2 gauges of electrics (all the rest are the lame Nanowebs that they plan on keeping). So, give them an ear full and let's keep the POLYWEBS that REALLY work.
I agree DR strings are overpriced pieces of crap. DR has found a comfortable niche with the young inexperienced crowd who are more interested in looking cool than sounding good. I really like the Ernie Ball strings but they don't seem to last too long. I've been meaning to try some Dean Markley but they're rather pricey. I think I'll give those Polywebs a go next time around. Thanks!
@lockpicker2k I hear you my friend. I would love to have just a big hunk of anything with lots of nails on it to fit through the ball ends of the strings and a hundred tuners on it and just get take the low E string from every string ever made and just tune each string up, give it a pull and let it slap and see which ones suck and which one's don't. No pickups needed. You could weed out 99% of them with that one little pluck of the string.
I am so glad you mentioned the nanowebs at the beginnibg because I was mistakenly thinking they were polywebs. I remember absolutely hating the nanowebs cause they sounded muffled. I've been using the Fender Super Bullets and they've worked okay. I recently tried a set of EB and again they are pretty good considering I don't have the acidic hands. I was considering trying the DR's which is what brought me to your video. I think I am definitely going to give the polywebs a try instead. Thanks!
@shield400 Yeah, I always enjoyed the sound of the EB's. I just have the misfortune of the acidic sweat and had to go another route. I was spending way too much by changing strings on my electrics and acousic guitars 6 times a night, 7 nights a week. When the Elixir Polywebs came out, they just did the ticket BIG TIME and saved me a fortune!
@Switchblade46 Thanks. Those are just the way that the DR strings sound. They are their coated nickel strings. Total garbage. I just had to make the video to save at least one person from blowing their money on that stuff. Then the color on them is even worse. It honestly seems as though they took regular strings and spray painted them. That is why they are so lively and brilliant sounding. lol They should just shut their doors.
dude once again not even a month yet and my friend just reviewed the Polywebs. here's what he said : 'this is by far the smoothest, most comfortable strings i've used. hasn't gone black, still sounds fresh, love them. Thanks scott.' my friend also switched to Jazz iii picks because he was using Dunlop steel picks previously and didnt want to scrape the coating off.
@PoetryEmotion94 Awesome! I'm glad that he is loving the strings. I should really buy the company to ensure that they stay around. Something to keep us all happy. lol
DR strings are the biggest piles of crap I've ever played, my music shop was selling them at half price so I bought a set for my strat and I had the same problem, I thought it was just me though haha
@aidyanimal Nope, it's not you. They are just plain awful. I don't know how other people use them and like them. lol Some people really love pain huh?
Duuude ! i tried those Elixer Polywebs and i had them on for about 2 months from now and it's still shiny like new, sounds still new. and i play almost everyday. what the hell have i been missing? Polywebs are my main strings now, but i still use DR tite-fits as a backup in case Polywebs are sold out. and you're right about those Blue Steels. my cousin had to replace his frets because of those. Thanks dude for this video.
@PoetryEmotion94 AWESOME! Another converted guitar player! I'm so glad that you like them. Yeah, your frets will be saved using the Elixirs too. They are easily the least abrasive strings you can grind on your frets. Thanks for letting me know how they did for you! All my best.
@groovydjs yeah my guitar has stainless steel frets, and it has such a smooth feeling when bending with normal strings. but with these Polywebs, Damn its like strings on ice lol. Oh and i suggested Polywebs to my cousin, and my friend. i'll let you know what they think of them in about a month time. Cheers !
@PoetryEmotion94 Exactly! Yeah, please do let me know how they enjoy them (or not) also, I like for folks that do visit this little thread to know what others honestly think..
@groovydjs hey dude its not even a month yet and my cousin had this to say about Polywebs : 'these strings must be from heaven or something, feel great, good sustain, hasn't even discolored yet, and my hands sweat like hell. hope they'll last a long time. and thanks scott for mentioning these strings man.' he said exactly what i wrote here. heard nothing from my friend yet. im sure he'll review it soon.
@PoetryEmotion94 That is great! I thought the exact same thing when I first tried them out. I finally found the perfect set of strings for people who have that kind of horrible sweat. I think that everybody should write to them and tell them not to discontinue them. They are on their way to doing so. They have already killed the POLYWEB bass strings and a few others and are only keeping the horrible NANOWEBS. It would be see the best strings around killed off. But we probably will.
@groovydjs yeah i think if enough people use Polywebs, Elixir might save them. good thing my regular guitar shop sells alot of them. if only there was a petition or something like that to save the Polywebs, I'll sign it faster than my brother drinkin beer. and he's a hell of a fast drinker lol !
@PoetryEmotion94 I would love to do a Pedition. When I called them back when they were pulling the plug on the Polyweb bass strings and asked if they would reconsider. They told me "don't hold your breath buddy", and that was the end of that.
@groovydjs Damn thats cold ! so once they discontinue them in the future my regular shop might stop selling them. hopefully the way Elixer coat their string will trend and other companies might do the same. not like those Extra Life strings. EL strings should be used for decorating christman trees instead.
@PoetryEmotion94 Yeah, I don't think that anybody will follow the Elixir formula. They are all going the EXACT wrong direction. The coated strings from all other companies have goofed them up the same way. Guitarded.....yeah, I know. lol I think that we'll be sunk. I've bought a lifetime worth of Polywebs, so...I'm set. But, everybody else shouldn't have to suffer because the folks at Gore Inc. (Elixir) have lost their minds and are slashing their own wrists with this move.
@groovydjs you're so lucky to have a life time supply lol. anyway at least im enjoying them while they last. my sweat isn't acidic so if my strings give in, by some kind of natural disaster lol, i'l always have DR tite-fits which are alittle cheaper but last damn long for me. But all hail Polywebs. THE best strings ever. (tite-fit 2nd place lol)
I personally like that dead sound for death metal and grindcore. As for being mentally ill for liking dead sounding strings... I take that as a compliment. :)
@skylineXpert So very true. Making colors is fine, you can simply put the dye in during the liquid state of the metal and all would've turned out fine. But the morons at DR put the color on AFTER the strings were made. So, that is what made the strings go dead. It's simply like spray painting your strings, the way they went about it. Very wrong indeed.
Ahhhhhhhh stop plucking those DR strings they sound like dead strings and I HATE DEAD STRINGS STOP IT STOP IT PLEASE I BEG YOU SCOTT YOUR GONA MAKE ME GO CRAZY AGAIN AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!@^%&$*@!*&$&^#^ great now i need some polywebs cause were im going im gona need strings that last for a long time(sigh) better get use to playing with my feet
@OWNGEMASTER1993 LMAO, yeah.....that was literally 5 minutes or so after I took them out of the package and put them on. I had to get the camera out right away and demonstrate that monstrosity. I figured that if I could save one person from buying those, my job was done. Nobody has to like my choice in strings, but for God's sake, stay away from those particular kind of DR's. lol Just nasty isn't it. Like fingernails on a chalkboard....worse actually for us huh? lol
Personally I liked the fact that they last longer...BUT the sound sucks! (elixirs I mean). Therefore I go for D'Addarios and use Dunlop String conditioner...thinggy... And they last much longer. Before I started using the dunlop I would rust a set of D'Addarios in a day...now they last for like...2-3 weeks... I change strings on my guitar every month or so anyway. Try it and see what it's like!
@m0rgulash Nope, you're dead wrong actually. You may not like them, but they really are the best strings on the market, they are just not your cup of tea. I can kill your strings in under a half hour. Every time I get a guitar in that has D'Addarios on it, they are as dead as a door nail and there is no magic in that Dunlop String Conditioner. It doesn't work. You change strings every month, I change them every 5 years now. So, I win!
I got u my friend. Thanks! Over the years of playing guitar i wish i had all the money i spent on strings u no. All i use now is the elixirs. Very cool and twangy lol
@jeraldsrestoration You are the best in the world my friend. I know I've got an email from you to read sometime soon too. I'll be on that very shortly. Looking forward to it.
Ok. go with me here lol. How do i put them on so i don't have this problem again? Do I Just tighten them up when i put it threw the hole & not wrap them correct?
@jeraldsrestoration Just put them on as normal, no knots, no bending, no cripmping or angles or any of that nonsense. Stick it through the tuner and do about 3-4 wraps on the wound strings and 5-6 wraps on the plain strings, all going under each other, never crossing over at any point. Just as any strings should be put on. Tune them, stretch them, tune them, stretch them, about 4 times and they will be good for a LONG, LONG, LONG time, don't clean them, or wipe them hard, just play them.
Scott. What color box do u use for the elixir acoustics? The purple or white? Mine r dead on my acoustic. I get the purple box. Am i getting the wrong ones? It says Polyweb on it but they're dead after a month or less. Some of the coating comes off them. This is my 2nd set. I have no problems with the electrics. Still like new. Should i get the white box Elixirs & not the purple?
@jeraldsrestoration Yep, they are the purple Polywebs. I can 100% guarantee that it is because you are doing one of 2 things that will make that happen and I'll bet it's the first of these. You are probably wiping the strings down like regular strings. Doing so will rip the coating off. They don't tell you not to do that on the box or even on the site. But, don't ever wipe them down and they will stay new forever. The other is doing the pick scrape thing on your wound strings. 1st one huh?
@eddyboy409 The only thing they are good for is hanging yourself with. I actually sold those horrible things for double of what I paid for them. Won't they be so amazingly happy with those things. lol
@eddyboy409 You poor thing. Use a real set of strings. Go Elixir and never have to change strings again. Yeah, there is that much of a difference. I used to use Ernie Ball too before Elixirs came to be. I had to change strings 6 times per night. (no lie). A half hour is as long as normal strings will last me. So, every break, new set of strings. Now, I go years on 1 set of Elixirs.
@eddyboy409 Cool, get the Polywebs (not the Nanowebs) and please let me know how you like them. I love converting the world over to them one at a time.
@TrebleWizard Yep, Elixir are hanging themselves by phasing out the Polywebs. You can easily get 10 times more time out of the Polywebs. The whole idea is for the coating to stay on there to protect the strings from the elements and your sweat and dead skin. So, the thin Nanoweb stuff gets compromised pretty quickly and all of those elements get in there and kill the strings like all other strings. Breaking the Polyweb coating pretty much takes a set of wire cutters to make it happen. lol

I ordered 2 sets of dr 7 string coated recently. Put the first set on and it sounded so bad i couldt even play it. I figured it might have been a bad set but the 2nd set
sounded like bullshit too. I have had these in the past and they sounded good but 2 sets.....DR WTF!
@Mikem1033 Yeah, DR has some of the worst strings on the planet with these particular strings. I really don't see how they can seriously put them on the market. I guess the color somehow is more important to the kids than having good sounding, live strings.
@Tomastheskater Sure, why not. As long as you like the sound of live strings. If you like the sound of dead strings, toss the DR strings on there. The Elixir strings will not rust. I'm sure you run into rust on your strings. If you don't want that.....go for the Elixir strings.
@jacobsanchez24 I honestly only like the 3 pickup Telecasters with 6 saddles. lol It's a true thing. So, as long as it has all of the options of a Strat, then I'm good.
Hey scott i have a question. on the polywebs and nanowebs shouldnt they both last the same length? they both have the same coating but the nanowebs just have it thinner but shouldnt the coating wear the same, meaning not at all, as it seems. if the polywebs last 5 years shouldnt the nanowebs having the same material as the coating or is it because the thinness of the coating cant hold up against the elements. thanks scott.
@Fkepler2 Hi there my friend! You are pretty close to correct with the last assumption. It's simply this. Some people claim that the Polyweb was so thick that it killed the natural sound of the strings. We know better, but THEY don't. Elixir thought they would shut people up by making it thinner and it worked. So, now folks think that the strings sound more like real strings. lol So, after a couple of weeks playing, your strings now look like a shredded violin bow, Coating gone! Not Good.
my brother keeps telling me to get the colored strings i thought that they would be peaces of junk (my brother tells me to do a lot of ridiculous junk on guitar(he's a metal head)
@TheMAJofficial Yeah, in this case, just walk away from them. They honestly (as you can hear) sound like someone just spray painted a perfectly good set of strings and gunked them all up. lol They really are worthless.
This kinda convinced me about my next choice of strings. However I might have to still change my strings often still because I abuse the hell out of a Floyd Rose. I have been going through constant brands of strings trying to find the best pair. Let me ask this at least: Would Elixir be the best choice of string or would I need to go somewhere else?
@SilentDestruction900 Hi Mike, yeah, these just are amazing! I too spank the hell out of my trems and never a problem with them. The only thing to remember about this particular kind of string is that the string itself is "WRAPPED", COVERED, whatever with this webbed type of material and it will fray and rip if you do a lot of the pick scraping thing. That will leave your string exposed to the "Elements" sweat, dirt etc. like regular strings. So, if you can live without the pick scrapes. GROOVY.
@topdog2328 Thank you very much. That is the Ventures Signature Model Strat. They are so very cool. 125 of them were sent to the USA. They are at $3,000.00 right now. They have the Lace Sensors, TBX tone control and the Clapton active mid boost on the center tone knob. Awesome axe!
@valdivia562 LOL, pretty much. Then again, other people can sweat just as much as I do and it won't do anything to their strings. It's simply the acid type and levels in the sweat that makes strings physically rust in under an hour. That's pretty heavy duty stuff there.
@valdivia562 I used the use the Ernie Ball Super Slinky's until the Elixir's hit the market. I put a new set on every single break. We usually played 6 sets a night, so....that was 6 sets of strings I would go through every single night. Now, I never, ever have to change them. It's a beautiful thing!
@valdivia562 That's where everybody is wrong. Ernie Ball = $4.00 ... Elixir = $10.99 The Ernie's last a week for people with normal sweat, the Elixir's last ... well, forever. So, 2 1/2 weeks of Ernie Ball strings for the same price as FOREVER with Elixir. Within under a month, the Ernie Balll's are the expensive strings.
@valdivia562 Then you're one of the lucky ones. I have to change ANY other brand in about half an hour to 40 minutes. So for me........Elixirs are the cheapest strings going.
@valdivia562 Either. If I touch a set of normal strings for 3 minutes and walk away from them, they will sound like they are 20 years old a half hour later.
@valdivia562 Yeah, it's just in my acidic sweat. People, back when I was young and would go to "JAM NIGHT", would make me bring my own guitar because they learned really fast that I would destroy their new strings after one song and leave them with the expense of having to change strings again on break when they could normally get a week out of a set of strings. So, word got around town and I was feared when I walked through the door WITHOUT a guitar case in my hand. lol
Interesting - wish I'd saw this before I tried a set. Mine were exactly as yours there - blue and dead. DR offered to replace them for me, but I told them no thanks - there was no point in having another set of shitty strings...
Also curious about your experience with nanowebs, I've been using them for years without any problems, just as you describe the polywebs in fact. I'll grab a set of polys and give them a try....
@PaulNeedsMusic Hello my friend. Yeah, can you believe that some people actually LOVE those DR strings? lol To each their own I guess. I was lucky enough to seel all of mine on Ebay for more than I paid for them. I bought a dozen sets on sale online and deciced to check out those DR's and that one set is all it took for me too. The Elixir Nanowebs last about 1/3 of the time that the Polywebs do. Grab some Polywebs before they discontinue them. They are on the chopping block. WHY? lol
Thanks for telling me about the nanos, I wasnt sure which ones were better and thought elexir had got worse, I've just ordered some polywebs, I notice the polywebs break easily too and I never break strings
@merotesduo That would mean you need to change your playing technique. I haven't broken a single Elixer string since the day that they were introduced to the public. Even guitars that have had a set on them for over 5 years and played regularly.........sound like new, never break a string and I give them hell. Check for burrs on your saddles or something else, it's not the strings.
@PoetryEmotion94 No I haven't. I will stay with my Elixir Polywebs until they are dead and gone or until I'm dead and gone, whicever comes first. Output from a string is just hype. Nothing more. If I want 10% more output, I turn up my amp.

@stonedrocker666 I wish I could answer that question for you my friend, but I've never once changed string gauges. I just have always stuck with what worked as far as gauges go.
@cninja87 Yeah, they are easily one of the worst sounding coated strings ever made. It would stand to reason that the acoustic ones would be nasty too. They go about the process wrong by coating them before the wind the strings instead of afterwards, that is the100% secret to it all. Anybody who coats the strings before the winding process (it will say on the back of the package usually) will just end up with awful strings. Thanks for letting everybody know that you found out the same!
@cninja87 Yeah, it sucks. I actually have to change bridge saddles all the time because my sweat actually eats right through them. Now if they would only make some coated saddles. lol I can't stand the graphite based ones. But, saddles are cheap, so no biggie.
They'll do flavors next lawl
TheMAJofficial 1 day ago
@TheMAJofficial You know what, you're probably right. I'm the first person who is all for improving things. I'm not stuck in the 60's and fried out of my head and think that everything musical should still be from (or a reproduction of) that era. So many things have been improved so very beyond that stuff. If they can make a string that tastes good and sounds good, I'm all for it. But, they will screw it up somehow. lol They will do steak flavor, but forget the A-1 sauce. lol
groovydjs 1 day ago
I have hyperhidrosis, and I can't feel "all-right" while playing any kind of strings that isn't Elixir. I play Bass Guitar and Electric Guitar, for bass strings I can use other brands, since the strings are thick, but for the guitar, I feel somekind of fear while bending a non-elixir E string. And thanks bro, you saved my money! I was about to order a set of SHIT.. er I mean DR strings.
luizzeross 5 days ago
@luizzeross LOL, I love this post! You are so very welcome and I'm so glad to see that you are a member of the Elixir string family! You just can't beat 'em!

Scott, i need some help. My plain steels are rusting, hate that.. What should i do?
I heard that you have many sets with the coating on the plain steels. Care to share?
SiCF1ST 2 weeks ago
@SiCF1ST Hi my friend. All of the Elixirs have the coating on the plain strings also. Not even a hint of discoloration on any of my 150 guitars that are strung up with these. Even after YEARS. So, don't fear, all 6 strings are coated.
groovydjs 2 weeks ago
@groovydjs Can i buy a set? Ill pay 14.95$ for a set and shipping.

@SiCF1ST You can get them for a lot less than that and free shipping on Ebay or Musician's Friend. They have an unlimited supply.

I about the Elixer polyweb not knowing what they are and what they do. Lol but they sound great! I use them for my epiphone les paul and they sound terrific. I have had them for about 4 months now and they still sound great
xxZMANXX44 1 month ago
@xxZMANXX44 That is great! I'm glad that you tried a set and are enjoying them. Love them or hate them.....there's no other strings out there like them fo sure.

They sounded like shit cause you played it like shit, you need to strum it, not just bang it against the guitar. Nice try.
uenragedbro 1 month ago
@uenragedbro Wrong dumb ass, that is slapping and how you test the life of your strings. Speaking of life, go get one moron.
groovydjs 1 month ago
I have been using the color coated strings for a couple years now and I agree that the DR's totally suck. I use and recommend the strings by Aurora. The color lasts well but more importantly, the sound is great, and they are very easy on the fingers and quiet string noise. They are a little hard to find and pricey at $10-$13 depending on where you get them. They are the only strings on my small herd of 6 guitars
tbofilms 1 month ago
@tbofilms I grabbed a black set of the Aurora strings by a request for me to try them. I got 20 minutes out of them before they were completely shot and I had to cut them off. That's how bad the acid level is in my sweat. I know that everybody had different chemicals in their body that react differently to every kind of string and every different alloy used. It's amazing that I eat through them all other than the Polywebs. I'm glad that the Auroras are working for you.

Hey can you tell me what is the difference between the Elixir NANOWEB and the POLYWEB please ? ..
AXfo7 1 month ago
@AXfo7 Yes, the Nanowebs are simply the exact same thing as the Polywebs, only much thinner on the webbing or coating. So, it rips easier and doesn't protect your strings for very long. It's like Nanowebs are panty hose and Polywebs are Levi's Jeans.
groovydjs 1 month ago
@groovydjs
I have a pair of nanowebs with me and i'm wondering if i should go out and grab polywebs for this recording session... thanks a lot.
mortemdrummer 1 month ago
@mortemdrummer My total pleasure. Elixir claims that the NANOWEBS are more like traditional sounding strings. I hear no difference at all. I've researched these things into the ground and there is no difference in sound at all, the feeling of both is also non distiguishable (because we have thick callouses on our finger tips...right?..lol). But, the last thing in the world that the POLYWEBS are is dead or even slightly deader than the others. They are the king of strings for sure.Good Luck!

Hey scott, the link you sent me had no email add to contact them
speedjunkie66 1 month ago
@speedjunkie66 Howdy my friend. I know a lot of folks have been contacting them. So there must be an email address for them out there somewhere. If it's not on their site, it's got to be found easily on Google. Folks have been sending me copies of the letters that they have written to them and the responses that they've gottn back saying that they are not getting rid of them, (even though they are dissappearing....lol). I just picked up the phone and called them myself.
groovydjs 1 month ago
Every time I've tried Elixirs (including the Polywebs) the coating has flaked off. Have you ever had this issue? It's crazy to think you've had them on your guitars for as long as 5 years.
psyoptica 1 month ago
@psyoptica I've never had the coating flake off. If you do....you're forcing it off of there due to your playing style or by wiping your strings down after you play. Any wiping of them will fray the coating right off of them.

@Thorvund1970 Howdy there Cat-Daddy-O-Groove-Cricket! lol That is too cool. Your outlook on what a great guitar string should be will soon be solidified iinto your k'noggin'. lol If for any reason you don't like them....you know who to sell them to.
groovydjs 1 month ago
@groovydjs I bought up the local supply of Polywebs, four sets. That means I will have five Tele's understrung until my delivery comes in. Where do you order your strings? You know as well as I do that I love these strings ;). Plus I play with .010's as they stay in tune a little better for me. I sent you a non-guitar related video via email. Happy New Year my Good Friend!

@Thorvund1970 4 whole sets in stock huh? Your axes will thank you, your fingertips and frets will thank you. I already thank you for trying them out! I'll go check my mail for the video! They are free delivery, no tax and a few bucks less than Musican's Friend per set. Can't beat that kind of deal.

umm question man... "what acoustic guitar strings can you recommend???" my coated strings always rusts after an hour. the next time, i changed the the string using the same kind of string (new sets though) and this time i bought some cleaners (Big Bends wipes, and Big Bends fret board juice), but after three days there are some discolorations/rust already in the string.. by the way my current guitar string is DR Dragon string, but its a shame that its just bad.cause i have to change evry 2month
fetong 1 month ago
@fetong No problem my friend. The Elixir Polyweb acoustic strings are the only strings to use. Never, ever use any kind of fretboard conditioner. No need for it. The wood is dead and never needs to be treated. Just clean it with some water and then wipe the funk off when you are changing strings and that's it. Never wipe down your Elixir strings, that will take the coating off of them. Just put them on, play them for at least a year, they will NEVER, EVER go dead. Enjoy them! Peace.
groovydjs 1 month ago
@groovydjs but while changing the strings could i give them a little stretch? or stretching them would damage the coating?? while i'm putting them on?

The guy I talked to last year was very straight forward. I asked him about the Polyweb bass strings and he said to buy all you can now because they are as good as gone and all the other Polywebs are going right behind them. 3 months later, the bass strings were gone, now the other strings are down to 2 gauges. dropthedead15 2 months ago
So, raise your action a bit, and try loosening your trus rod a bit and you'll be fine.
groovydjs 2 months ago
@groovydjs thanks i figured out the problem after like three seconds of posting teh bridge was to low and i understand the type of music i listen to isnt everyones cup of tea everyones different and everyone has a type of music but thanks for the tips anyways
dropthedead15 2 months ago
@dropthedead15 Cool, I'm glad you figured out that it was something so simple. Yeah, I hear you about musical choice. I checked your channel and that song came on and my throat got sore just imagining having to scream like that all night. That's some angry sounding stuff. Quite the departure from the down home country stuff that I listen to. I'll have to try singing a Hank Williams Sr. song like that and see if it catches on. lol Cheers and happy holidays.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I've heard a lot of bad things about DR strings. I don't like the Blue Steel Cryogenic strings. When i was restringing them, something didn't feel right about the strings. I felt things on the strings. It could have been rust, maybe not. After about 2 weeks, one string already broke and I was trying to preserve the strings with my FastFret too.
helloimkevin10 2 months ago
@helloimkevin10 You are very correct about the Blue Steel strings. The whole concept is wrong to begin with. So, you have metal strings, you freeze them, then you thaw them out. Water will be left on them, then they rust and go dead before they even go in the package. So, it was a failed plan from the beginning. lol If you ever want to save money, buy rubbing alcohol, put it on your string cleaning rag. It's the same thing as Fast Fret and the others like it.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I play Dr DDT strings and the are amazing. I can't get over the slimy feel of the elixirs. The dr strings I play are not coated just a larger gauge to stay tuned up in drop tunings. I don't like coated strings but not all dr strings are crappy
FxVodoo 2 months ago
@FxVodoo This is only about these particular COATED DR strings being total shit, not the others. That would be why I didn't pick on the other DR strings.
groovydjs 2 months ago
hey man befor you ditch earnie balls completely. have you tried their stanless steel strings? and i have tried the red devils and they didnt sound dead. i have never tried elixers tho. too expensive for my taste. I figure the stainless steel strings wouldnt rust from your sweat
gregory1138 2 months ago
@gregory1138 Yeah, the stainless go dead just as fast. Reason being, dirt, dead skin, and other elements get lodged in the windings of your strings and they simply can't ring anymore. So, every brand goes dead due to that. Elixir is the ONLY brand that puts the coating over the whole string (like a condom) other companies coat the string windings before they even wind the strings. So, the same crap happens, more junk between the windings. That's the whole problem with all guitar strings.

SoreEyeMusic 2 months ago
@SoreEyeMusic Rotosound strings are fair at best. They have been know for decades to be the one brand of strings that will destroy your frets faster than any others out there.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I'd love to use Polywebs, but problem is: My local music store only has Elixir Nanowebs :S So for now, i'll have to go with Nanowebs, but they're Elixir, and as far as i know, all Elixir strings last long.
SoreEyeMusic 2 months ago
@SoreEyeMusic Do not support your local music store if they won't order the strings you want. You can get them cheaper online anyway and they will come to you instead of you settling for the nasty Nanowebs. Just because they are Elixir doesn't make them good. That is like saying, yeah, it's an Epiphone....but, it's still a Gibson.....kinda. The Polywebs are 20X longer lasting and better sounding than the Nanowebs. Tell your music store you'll just buy them online. And do. Save some cash.
groovydjs 2 months ago
oh and thanks for the polyweb tip, too.

@brotherincognito1 You are more than welcome. They Polywebs last 20 times longer than the Nanowebs. Huge difference.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I hear everything your sayin. I've been talked into all kinds of coated strings includining the dr's. Our music stores have something against elixirs around here. But I've got the same sweat issue as you, and the elixirs are bulletproof against it. LOVE em.
brotherincognito1 2 months ago
@brotherincognito1 Yeah, most music store employees are guitarded and only like what Hendrix played. Hendrix didn't play Elixirs. lol So, that is the mentality of most musicians. And the folks at Guitar Center, that is simply back to the GUITARDED thing again, just more so. Most of their employees were working at McDonald's last week. lol
groovydjs 2 months ago
Ive used ghs strings for a long time and others and all of em have discolored and rusted but not the elixir strings, they rock!!!!! I can shred with these and i play eveyday
speedjunkie66 2 months ago
@speedjunkie66 I hear you my friend. THey are great aren't they!?! Do me a favor and join us in writing to the folks at Elixir and trying to stop them from from discontinuing the Polyweb strings. They have already killed the bass strings and are only down to 2 gauges of electrics (all the rest are the lame Nanowebs that they plan on keeping). So, give them an ear full and let's keep the POLYWEBS that REALLY work.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I agree DR strings are overpriced pieces of crap. DR has found a comfortable niche with the young inexperienced crowd who are more interested in looking cool than sounding good. I really like the Ernie Ball strings but they don't seem to last too long. I've been meaning to try some Dean Markley but they're rather pricey. I think I'll give those Polywebs a go next time around. Thanks!
lockpicker2k 2 months ago
@lockpicker2k I hear you my friend. I would love to have just a big hunk of anything with lots of nails on it to fit through the ball ends of the strings and a hundred tuners on it and just get take the low E string from every string ever made and just tune each string up, give it a pull and let it slap and see which ones suck and which one's don't. No pickups needed. You could weed out 99% of them with that one little pluck of the string.
groovydjs 2 months ago
I am so glad you mentioned the nanowebs at the beginnibg because I was mistakenly thinking they were polywebs. I remember absolutely hating the nanowebs cause they sounded muffled. I've been using the Fender Super Bullets and they've worked okay. I recently tried a set of EB and again they are pretty good considering I don't have the acidic hands. I was considering trying the DR's which is what brought me to your video. I think I am definitely going to give the polywebs a try instead. Thanks!
shield400 2 months ago
@shield400 Yeah, I always enjoyed the sound of the EB's. I just have the misfortune of the acidic sweat and had to go another route. I was spending way too much by changing strings on my electrics and acousic guitars 6 times a night, 7 nights a week. When the Elixir Polywebs came out, they just did the ticket BIG TIME and saved me a fortune!
groovydjs 2 months ago
at 4:00. Are those strings made of nylon or something! Awful!!
Great review. Thanks!!!
Switchblade46 2 months ago
@Switchblade46 Thanks. Those are just the way that the DR strings sound. They are their coated nickel strings. Total garbage. I just had to make the video to save at least one person from blowing their money on that stuff. Then the color on them is even worse. It honestly seems as though they took regular strings and spray painted them. That is why they are so lively and brilliant sounding. lol They should just shut their doors.
groovydjs 2 months ago
dude once again not even a month yet and my friend just reviewed the Polywebs. here's what he said : 'this is by far the smoothest, most comfortable strings i've used. hasn't gone black, still sounds fresh, love them. Thanks scott.' my friend also switched to Jazz iii picks because he was using Dunlop steel picks previously and didnt want to scrape the coating off.

Polywebs are my main strings now, but i still use DR tite-fits as a backup in case Polywebs are sold out. and you're right about those Blue Steels. my cousin had to replace his frets because of those. Thanks dude for this video.
PoetryEmotion94 2 months ago
@PoetryEmotion94 AWESOME! Another converted guitar player! I'm so glad that you like them. Yeah, your frets will be saved using the Elixirs too. They are easily the least abrasive strings you can grind on your frets. Thanks for letting me know how they did for you! All my best.

@groovydjs yeah my guitar has stainless steel frets, and it has such a smooth feeling when bending with normal strings. but with these Polywebs, Damn its like strings on ice lol.
PoetryEmotion94 2 months ago
@PoetryEmotion94 That is great! I thought the exact same thing when I first tried them out. I finally found the perfect set of strings for people who have that kind of horrible sweat. I think that everybody should write to them and tell them not to discontinue them. They are on their way to doing so. They have already killed the POLYWEB bass strings and a few others and are only keeping the horrible NANOWEBS. It would be see the best strings around killed off. But we probably will.
groovydjs 2 months ago
@groovydjs yeah i think if enough people use Polywebs, Elixir might save them. good thing my regular guitar shop sells alot of them. if only there was a petition or something like that to save the Polywebs, I'll sign it faster than my brother drinkin beer. and he's a hell of a fast drinker lol !
PoetryEmotion94 2 months ago
@PoetryEmotion94 I would love to do a Pedition. When I called them back when they were pulling the plug on the Polyweb bass strings and asked if they would reconsider. They told me "don't hold your breath buddy", and that was the end of that.
groovydjs 2 months ago
@groovydjs Damn thats cold ! so once they discontinue them in the future my regular shop might stop selling them. hopefully the way Elixer coat their string will trend and other companies might do the same. not like those Extra Life strings. EL strings should be used for decorating christman trees instead.
PoetryEmotion94 2 months ago
@PoetryEmotion94 Yeah, I don't think that anybody will follow the Elixir formula. They are all going the EXACT wrong direction. The coated strings from all other companies have goofed them up the same way. Guitarded.....yeah, I know. lol I think that we'll be sunk. I've bought a lifetime worth of Polywebs, so...I'm set. But, everybody else shouldn't have to suffer because the folks at Gore Inc. (Elixir) have lost their minds and are slashing their own wrists with this move.
groovydjs 2 months ago
@groovydjs you're so lucky to have a life time supply lol. anyway at least im enjoying them while they last. my sweat isn't acidic so if my strings give in, by some kind of natural disaster lol, i'l always have DR tite-fits which are alittle cheaper but last damn long for me. But all hail Polywebs. THE best strings ever. (tite-fit 2nd place lol)

giving a guitar string a color like DR did, its wrong, WRONG
skylineXpert 2 months ago

Try it and see what it's like!
m0rgulash 2 months ago

Looking forward to it.

groovydjs 3 months ago
Ok. go with me here lol. How do i put them on so i don't have this problem again? Do I Just tighten them up when i put it threw the hole & not wrap them correct?
jeraldsrestoration 3 months ago
@jeraldsrestoration Just put them on as normal, no knots, no bending, no cripmping or angles or any of that nonsense. Stick it through the tuner and do about 3-4 wraps on the wound strings and 5-6 wraps on the plain strings, all going under each other, never crossing over at any point. Just as any strings should be put on. Tune them, stretch them, tune them, stretch them, about 4 times and they will be good for a LONG, LONG, LONG time, don't clean them, or wipe them hard, just play them.
groovydjs 3 months ago
Should i get the white box Elixirs & not the purple?
jeraldsrestoration 3 months ago
@jeraldsrestoration Yep, they are the purple Polywebs. I can 100% guarantee that it is because you are doing one of 2 things that will make that happen and I'll bet it's the first of these. You are probably wiping the strings down like regular strings. Doing so will rip the coating off. They don't tell you not to do that on the box or even on the site. But, don't ever wipe them down and they will stay new forever. The other is doing the pick scrape thing on your wound strings. 1st one huh?
groovydjs 3 months ago
can u send me the dr strings, lol
eddyboy409 3 months ago
@eddyboy409 The only thing they are good for is hanging yourself with. I actually sold those horrible things for double of what I paid for them. Won't they be so amazingly happy with those things. lol
groovydjs 3 months ago
@eddyboy409 they will, i use ernie ball
eddyboy409 3 months ago
@eddyboy409 You poor thing. Use a real set of strings. Go Elixir and never have to change strings again. Yeah, there is that much of a difference. I used to use Ernie Ball too before Elixirs came to be. I had to change strings 6 times per night. (no lie). A half hour is as long as normal strings will last me. So, every break, new set of strings. Now, I go years on 1 set of Elixirs.
groovydjs 3 months ago
@groovydjs im taking ur word for it, right now i still have 2 sets of ernie ball strings. when i run out i gonna buy the elixirs.
eddyboy409 3 months ago
@eddyboy409 Cool, get the Polywebs (not the Nanowebs) and please let me know how you like them. I love converting the world over to them one at a time.
groovydjs 3 months ago
"these go on dead and stay dead" LOL, you made me laugh man. Why are the nanoweb shit? Is it because of the way they feel or do they die quickly?
TrebleWizard 3 months ago
@TrebleWizard Yep, Elixir are hanging themselves by phasing out the Polywebs. You can easily get 10 times more time out of the Polywebs. The whole idea is for the coating to stay on there to protect the strings from the elements and your sweat and dead skin. So, the thin Nanoweb stuff gets compromised pretty quickly and all of those elements get in there and kill the strings like all other strings. Breaking the Polyweb coating pretty much takes a set of wire cutters to make it happen. lol
groovydjs 3 months ago
Hey there, how long does the nanoweb last for you?? beacause i uses gauge 11-52 and they dont make them for polyweb. which last longer ??

I ordered 2 sets of dr 7 string coated recently. Put the first set on and it sounded so bad i couldt even play it. I figured it might have been a bad set but the 2nd set
sounded like bullshit too. I have had these in the past and they sounded good but 2 sets.....DR WTF!
Mikem1033 3 months ago
@Mikem1033 Yeah, DR has some of the worst strings on the planet with these particular strings. I really don't see how they can seriously put them on the market. I guess the color somehow is more important to the kids than having good sounding, live strings.
groovydjs 3 months ago
Would you recommend these strings for heavy metal stuff? I do alot of soloing and heavy palm muting kind of stuff.
Tomastheskater 3 months ago
@Tomastheskater Sure, why not. As long as you like the sound of live strings. If you like the sound of dead strings, toss the DR strings on there. The Elixir strings will not rust. I'm sure you run into rust on your strings. If you don't want that.....go for the Elixir strings.
groovydjs 3 months ago
@groovydjs I see your a telecaster fan. Nice :)
jacobsanchez24 3 months ago
@jacobsanchez24 I honestly only like the 3 pickup Telecasters with 6 saddles. lol It's a true thing. So, as long as it has all of the options of a Strat, then I'm good.
groovydjs 3 months ago
Hey scott i have a question. on the polywebs and nanowebs shouldnt they both last the same length? they both have the same coating but the nanowebs just have it thinner but shouldnt the coating wear the same, meaning not at all, as it seems. if the polywebs last 5 years shouldnt the nanowebs having the same material as the coating or is it because the thinness of the coating cant hold up against the elements. thanks scott.
Fkepler2 4 months ago

TheMAJofficial 4 months ago in playlist More videos from groovydjs
@TheMAJofficial Yeah, in this case, just walk away from them. They honestly (as you can hear) sound like someone just spray painted a perfectly good set of strings and gunked them all up. lol They really are worthless.
groovydjs 4 months ago
This kinda convinced me about my next choice of strings. However I might have to still change my strings often still because I abuse the hell out of a Floyd Rose. I have been going through constant brands of strings trying to find the best pair. Let me ask this at least: Would Elixir be the best choice of string or would I need to go somewhere else?
Thanks, Mike
SilentDestruction900 4 months ago
@SilentDestruction900 Hi Mike, yeah, these just are amazing! I too spank the hell out of my trems and never a problem with them. The only thing to remember about this particular kind of string is that the string itself is "WRAPPED", COVERED, whatever with this webbed type of material and it will fray and rip if you do a lot of the pick scraping thing. That will leave your string exposed to the "Elements" sweat, dirt etc. like regular strings. So, if you can live without the pick scrapes. GROOVY.

topdog2328 4 months ago
@topdog2328 Thank you very much. That is the Ventures Signature Model Strat. They are so very cool. 125 of them were sent to the USA. They are at $3,000.00 right now. They have the Lace Sensors, TBX tone control and the Clapton active mid boost on the center tone knob. Awesome axe!

you must be like a human sprinkler on stage
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 LOL, pretty much. Then again, other people can sweat just as much as I do and it won't do anything to their strings. It's simply the acid type and levels in the sweat that makes strings physically rust in under an hour. That's pretty heavy duty stuff there.
groovydjs 4 months ago
@groovydjs yeah ive been using ernie ball strings for 3 years but i hate they get rusty in like 3 weeks
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 I used the use the Ernie Ball Super Slinky's until the Elixir's hit the market. I put a new set on every single break. We usually played 6 sets a night, so....that was 6 sets of strings I would go through every single night. Now, I never, ever have to change them. It's a beautiful thing!
groovydjs 4 months ago
@groovydjs yeah ive always wanted to try elixirs but they are expensive
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 That's where everybody is wrong. Ernie Ball = $4.00 ... Elixir = $10.99 The Ernie's last a week for people with normal sweat, the Elixir's last ... well, forever. So, 2 1/2 weeks of Ernie Ball strings for the same price as FOREVER with Elixir. Within under a month, the Ernie Balll's are the expensive strings.
groovydjs 4 months ago
@groovydjs yeah but i rarely change strings i usually leave them for a year or until they snap
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 Then you're one of the lucky ones. I have to change ANY other brand in about half an hour to 40 minutes. So for me........Elixirs are the cheapest strings going.
groovydjs 4 months ago
@groovydjs during a gig or just practicing?
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 Either. If I touch a set of normal strings for 3 minutes and walk away from them, they will sound like they are 20 years old a half hour later.
groovydjs 4 months ago
@groovydjs thats insanely fast
valdivia562 4 months ago
@valdivia562 Yeah, it's just in my acidic sweat. People, back when I was young and would go to "JAM NIGHT", would make me bring my own guitar because they learned really fast that I would destroy their new strings after one song and leave them with the expense of having to change strings again on break when they could normally get a week out of a set of strings. So, word got around town and I was feared when I walked through the door WITHOUT a guitar case in my hand. lol
groovydjs 4 months ago
Interesting - wish I'd saw this before I tried a set. Mine were exactly as yours there - blue and dead. DR offered to replace them for me, but I told them no thanks - there was no point in having another set of shitty strings...
Also curious about your experience with nanowebs, I've been using them for years without any problems, just as you describe the polywebs in fact. I'll grab a set of polys and give them a try....
Cheers from Wales...
PaulNeedsMusic 4 months ago
@PaulNeedsMusic Hello my friend. Yeah, can you believe that some people actually LOVE those DR strings? lol To each their own I guess. I was lucky enough to seel all of mine on Ebay for more than I paid for them. I bought a dozen sets on sale online and deciced to check out those DR's and that one set is all it took for me too. The Elixir Nanowebs last about 1/3 of the time that the Polywebs do. Grab some Polywebs before they discontinue them. They are on the chopping block. WHY? lol
groovydjs 4 months ago
Thanks for telling me about the nanos, I wasnt sure which ones were better and thought elexir had got worse, I've just ordered some polywebs, I notice the polywebs break easily too and I never break strings
merotesduo 4 months ago
@merotesduo That would mean you need to change your playing technique. I haven't broken a single Elixer string since the day that they were introduced to the public. Even guitars that have had a set on them for over 5 years and played regularly.........sound like new, never break a string and I give them hell. Check for burrs on your saddles or something else, it's not the strings.

dude have you tried Cleartone strings ? they are coated but SAID to have 10% more output than normal strings.
PoetryEmotion94 4 months ago
@PoetryEmotion94 No I haven't. I will stay with my Elixir Polywebs until they are dead and gone or until I'm dead and gone, whicever comes first. Output from a string is just hype. Nothing more. If I want 10% more output, I turn up my amp.

for acoustic guitars, have you ever had saddle problems or dead notes from switching gauges? (sorry for the thousand comments)
stonedrocker666 4 months ago
@stonedrocker666 I wish I could answer that question for you my friend, but I've never once changed string gauges. I just have always stuck with what worked as far as gauges go.
groovydjs 4 months ago
i tried the coated acoustic DR. same experience, just dead sounding.
cninja87 5 months ago
@cninja87 Yeah, they are easily one of the worst sounding coated strings ever made. It would stand to reason that the acoustic ones would be nasty too. They go about the process wrong by coating them before the wind the strings instead of afterwards, that is the100% secret to it all. Anybody who coats the strings before the winding process (it will say on the back of the package usually) will just end up with awful strings. Thanks for letting everybody know that you found out the same!
groovydjs 5 months ago
@groovydjs
its too bad you got that acidic sweat thing going, because DR has excellent regular strings for both acoustic and electric. :(
cninja87 5 months ago
@cninja87 Yeah, it sucks. I actually have to change bridge saddles all the time because my sweat actually eats right through them. Now if they would only make some coated saddles. lol I can't stand the graphite based ones. But, saddles are cheap, so no biggie.
