Our rescue team will get calls from citizens who see a pup on the beach, we'll evaluate each situation and determine if the pup is in distress. Meat is very much a luxury. With the slightest bit of effort, anyone without any severe metabolic problems can live 100% meat-free. As far as "strenuous activity" goes, there is more protein and, thus, more energy in tofu and other soy products than there is in red meat. There are NFL players who are vegans.
Lions and killer whales don't exactly have the ability to process or cook soy. They eat meat purely out of necessity. We, however, eat meat because we like it. It's a luxury.

That's irrelevant, though. The discussion is whether or not the use of animal products is at all necessary, or if it's a luxury; a crutch. I live fine without any animal products. I really don't know much about Seals but this is my take on them.
It looks like a Dog that can swim and has flippers. But they seem VERY intelligent, very lovable and loyal like a Dog and the "sucking flipper" thing at the end....that blew me away.

I grew up in Canada and we used to hunt these all the time. They're not too bright. You can just walk right up to them and whack 'em in the head with a club. Not very sporting true, but the meat was pretty good eating, and it used to be you could get a lot of money for the hides of the pups. Probably not worth too much today though. Those anti-fur nut jobs have pretty much ruined the fur industry. It's a shame if you ask me.

@jackstrawfrmwchta As a proud Canadian, I fully support our traditional industries! I am not against the seal hunt as it is very profitable for many East Coasters, however I am not for it either. I wish they could find a less invasive, cruel, heartless way of killing the animals. Clubbing just seems incredibly archaic and brutal.
I love harp seals and seals of all kinds! They have always been my favorite animal! Stop the brutal slaughter of these precious and innocent creatures! How can one bear to live with the guilt of killing such a cute and sweet little being????

Kid, come on. You're not that dumb. I never compared any situation to the holocaust nor you to anyone of Nazi-affiliation. It was an appropriate analogy for the situation. Don't blow things out of context just so that you can ignore the actual point being made.

No, people in third world countries wouldn't refuse a steak. We don't live in a third world country, do we? We live in a country in which we have the ability to completely and totally avoid having to cause pain and death in order to survive. Eating meat should be a necessity and in certain parts of the world it is. I don't begrudge anyone their self-preservation, just their sense of entitlement.
I don't eat fish. The concept is the same.

I really don't know much about Seals but this is my take on them.
It looks like a Dog that can swim and has flippers. But they seem VERY intelligent, very lovable and loyal like a Dog and the "sucking flipper" thing at the end....that blew me away.

@mrceebees14 As their predators have wittled down, they've been overbreeding like deer as of late, and if they are allowed to keep on breeding unhampered then tons upon tons of stuff will go extinct.
I think the seal hunt should definately develop a practice style that isn't cruel, but...yeah. Not doing this will absolutely ruin the enviroment.

I grew up in Canada and we used to hunt these all the time. They're not too bright. You can just walk right up to them and whack 'em in the head with a club. Not very sporting true, but the meat was pretty good eating, and it used to be you could get a lot of money for the hides of the pups. Probably not worth too much today though. Those anti-fur nut jobs have pretty much ruined the fur industry. It's a shame if you ask me.

@jackstrawfrmwchta As a proud Canadian, I fully support our traditional industries! I am not against the seal hunt as it is very profitable for many East Coasters, however I am not for it either. I wish they could find a less invasive, cruel, heartless way of killing the animals. Clubbing just seems incredibly archaic and brutal.
