I LOVE THAT EXPERIMENT/GAG!!! James Randi is the one who pioneered it and others have done their own little variations of it. I just love it because it's so simple but it's also a perfect little experiment that doesn't fail.

It's a pretty common misconception of those who look up the BS in astrology or tarot or psychic readings that most of what they say and is accepted by the client can be attributed to Barnum Statements. In actual fact, there are many many techniques that these con artists use to make you think that they're genuine. Experienced "psychics" or astrologers use literally over 30 different techniques. Barnum statements are only one of them.

I'm sorry, but what do your personal beliefs have to do with something being true or not? My kids believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. That doesn't make them true. A simple correlational analysis between birth signs and personality characteristics is all it would take to support the idea that the alignment of the planets hold sway over our personalities. Guess what? They don't.

Astrology has been around for thousands of years. Your horoscope is figured out by the position of the planets when you were born. The only problem is that this does not take into account planetary shift over the thousands of years. So if original teaching of astrology says you are a Sagittarius then 2 thousand years ago you would have been born a Scorpio.

Just because something "has been around for thousands of years" doesn't make it right or true. Astrology is complete and utter bullshit. I don't think that sparkyyoung believed that astrology is true because it has been around for thousands of years. I think s/he meant that even if we assume that astrology was true at the time of its invention, the fact that the position of the stars change means it is no longer true. Spakyyoung was actually arguing against astrology. Next time you should actually read what the person wrote.

@sparkyyoung Plus, the 'position' of planets and stuff depends on the position of the viewer. Then, if one is seeing the stars and planets from a sideral point in space, then the relations, the designes in the sky, the links made will necessarily be all and very different then from one seeing from the Earth.

Astrology is way ancient. And it only means that is is completely irrational. It doesn't deserve any consideration except this one: it's nonsense at all.
