  • does this work on the model 2 snes?

  • in need 1 bro!!!!

  • Those lines would make me kill myself.

  • Very cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for this one.

  • This is not a NOIC (nes-on-a-chip)?

  • @matt29171 I believe it is indeed an NOAC.

  • i have a ?? when playing super famicom games are there ones that have the killer instinct problem and also how do you tell official super famicom games from ones that are not??? i want to start a super famicon collection but the systems are expensive so would it be cheaper to find one of these or just buy the official super famicom???

  • damn just today i saw this vid and 1 minut before that bought a NES off of ebay.

  • @rollercoastermaniac2 The super 8 is pretty cool but an original NES is much better since this is just clone hardware and most likely would have some game glitches. Plus it has that line effect. I would imagine getting a real nes would be cheaper too.

  • @gamemaster14neo ahh good news

  • @gamemaster14neo I'm about to send my Super 8 Converter to JewWario and he's going to test some Famicom and Super Famicom games for me and see what works and what doesn't and maybe he has a Famicom Disk System so I see if the adapter fits. I sent him a link to your video so he know what it is. Hopefully he'll make a video too so the Super to get some more exposure The old NES had problems because of the 72-pin and the NES 2 can't use a Game Genie but the Super 8 solved my problems.

  • @nintendobard I will look forward to the report.

The 72 pin problems with the original nes can easily be fixed. Plus unlike the nes2 it has composite video.

The super 8 is pretty good but since its clone hardware it doesnt have perfect compatibility.

  • @gamemaster14neo Well with the 72 pin according to Faimicom Dojo even using a Famicom to NES adapter a few game like Akumajo Densetsu (Castlevania 3 import) just will not work at all. I don't think the Super 8 counts as a clone since it uses the SNES hardware and its own and every NES game I tried worked even the NES games that did not work on NES clones like Castlevania 3. If I could afford Akumajo Densetsu It could work with the Super 8. For Super Famicom I cut the SNES tabs out.

  • @nintendobard Is the japanese version of castlevania 3 better? You can put Super Famicom games right into the super 8 without having to "mod" your snes, thats what I did for my ranma game.

  • @gamemaster14neo Yes Akumajo Densetsu (Japanese version of Castlevania 3) that The Castlevania Dungeon talks about is way better since in japan companies made their own carts (unlike the U.S.) so it had better music and slightly improved graphics because of a chip. Not all Super Famicom games are compatible with the Super 8 and won't play at all (like some SNES games) thus a mod is needed since the Super 8 is more compatible with NES and Famicom games and that what it's used for.

  • Does the Famicom Disk System and Super Game Boy 2 work with this?

  • will this play super famicom games?

  • @FallOcean88 Yes it will, Infact I played my Ranma Super Battle game on it when I first got it. I believe this product was designed with super famicom in mind since the bottom is in the shape of an sfc cart. It was made region free since it has the proper spaces for the tabs of the Super Nintendo so no console modification is needed.

  • Have you tested Castlevania 3 NES or Japan on this thing??? Or have you tested some games with extra sound channels, for example: Mouryou senki Madara or Lagrange point???

  • @MaarioS I plan to test castlevania 3 on the super 8 and the game axe color handheld, I will make a video of it possibly soon.

As for those others games you mentioned I have never heard of them.

  • @gamemaster14neo I've used Castlevania 3 and Paperboy and they work fine and the NES Game Genie works too,but I don't know if the import Castlevania 3 on the Super 8 since I'm too poor to afford it but it should since actual Nintendo hardware is used it should work, what I want to know if I can use a Famicom Disk System in the Super 8 Famicom slot will work if I plan on getting one cheap, problem is nobody knows Super 8 exist and its so rare to find one.

  • would it work on fc16 go(super nintendo portable)

  • @ADAMTHEKILLJOY If it fits it might work but then you are risking some incompatibility running clone hardware on clone hardware.

  • Would anyone happen to know if this works with the SNES 2, a.k.a. SNES Junior?

  • I couldnt see why not since they have the same cartridge slot and av port in the back, plus the junior doesnt have any sort of design flaw that would cause the top of the unit not to fit.

  • I just tryed a super 8 on my snes model 2 and it didnt work(did have a slight ghosting of the game w/a constant horizonal scrolling) so it could just be a faulty super 8 (tryed all the normal cleaning contacts and whatnot)

  • @defset

I have a model to also and was thinking of buying this device, So do you suggest I trade my model 2 for the original? or was it a faulty super 8?

  • @mezabrian it ended up being a faulty super 8 but id assume it would work on a model 2 but you might wanna dig into google for the answer.

  • @Pro21xx you can easily mod the snes

  • Yes this device will allow you to play super famicom games. I have used it to play my Ranma 1/2 Super famicom game.

  • Great video, I have one of these converters as well and love it. I ended up taping stacks of pennies underneath the back of it so it's propped up on the edge of the SNES. I was afraid of breaking it while inserting an NES or Famicom cartridge.

You might be able to get games like KI to work if you bridge the 16-pin enhancement chip connections. Of course, it's not a big deal because the games work fine without the Super 8 attached anyway, but that might be the cause of the problem.

  • Did Link and the young woman have some Hot Chocolate? :)

Not sure how much Link likes coffee.

  • *edit *

i want too know because i want one! :D

  • where did you get that? my dad had one at his game store before he closed down?

  • actually, snes was not nintendo's second console in the us

the game and watch and the gameboy came before

    but great video nonetheless :D

  • I do not consider portables/handhelds as consoles. A console is something that gets hooked to your tv.

  • well, gameboy did have the supergameboy, which allowed you to play on your tv :D

  • You could say the same thing about Gameboy Advance and the gameboy player but thats just an add-on for a console it doesnt make the gba a console itself, but whatever.

  • hmm i see where you are coming from, but anyway, great video, keep em up :D

  • Be fun to take this apart and see what makes it tick. My guess is there is a NES on a chip in there.

  • Yep, you are correct. I have one of these and I opened it up a few years ago. Aside from the NES-on-a-chip it's pretty empty inside.

  • Wow. I didn't even know this Super 8 Converter existed. Thanks for the review!

  • Comment removed

  • I do not understand what you are saying or asking.

  • try a famicom disk system on the famicom slot

  • If I ever get my hands on one I will give it a try, I figure it might work.

From what I heard a fds system works on the top loading nes system with a converter.

  • i have heard that the snes cpu can run nes code, but the other chips aren't backwards compatible. perhaps this uses the snes's cpu. do you own caltlevania 3?

  • One of these days I will have to get Castlevania 3 and try it on all these weird clone systems and see how they do.

  • would a retro duo work for me then, cos i baught EB 3 days ago on ebay thinking this would, and ive seen some retro duo vids and thair all american so...will a retro duo work in england ?

  • As long as the RetroDuo can display in the correct video mode (PAL or PAL60) and run off the correct voltage. If it were designed as usa system it would be running ntsc video and 110 power.

  • hello... if i baught earthbound NTCS ( however its spelled ) on a PAL snes europe with a converter would earthbound not work on mah PAL snes ?

earthbound has anti-piracy laws or something i dont know not to shure but the ting is i dont wnna spent all that monney on 1 game and it dosent work hear in england, when its a american game.

plz can someone repley cos its gunna save me £150.. lol

  • The lockout chip in your pal console would prevent the ntsc game from working. You would need to do a hardware mod to your system to disable or bypass the lockout chip.

All the import converters I have seen only are for playing Japanese games on a usa console due to the different sizes but none bother with pal lockout chips.

So basically you need to do a mod that involves soldering to get your Pal system to play NTSC/USA games.

  • I found a place where i can buy one of these :o

    Is 1200$ a good price?

  • Thats a horrible price, I had bought mine for less then $60

  • cool how much

  • I bought it ages ago and honestly dont remember how much I paid.

  • u sellin the one u got

  • I am sorry, but I am not selling it.

  • I have a Super 8 but I don't know if I should

buy a Famicom Disk System because I don't know

how well it will fit the Super 8,any pointers.

  • It really would depend how deep the ram adapter for the fds system goes and if the sides of it would get in the way. I personally have never had one but I would recommend posting that on a forum before buying it.

  • looks preety awesome and it,s very rare, but it does actualy only support the snes controllers, becouse this system is based on the noac chip, wich have it,s flaws.

if it dit supported the snes hardware, using tricky emulation, sure you could experience true rgb colors and digital sound from nes games!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember seeing one for Gens at sears long time about that could hold up 10 games into one

  • If you mean the Power Base Converter for Sega genesis then, I have that and it only holds 1 game.

  • Does anyone know where I can buy this?

  • I had found mine on ebay ages ago. I personally think ebay is your best chance, if any import stores had these they would most likely charge very high prices.

  • I have a SNES Super 8 too..There are a few things that you can do to improve your converter..First take apart the super 8 and at the top board side(next to the connectors),you'll notice a spot for a missing capacitor, solder a Radial 1000uf 35V (25V) or a 1000uf 50V capacitor in there to completely get ride of the NES/FAMICOM stripey lines effect, The + and - are clearly marked there...Great video!

  • Great review though, this thing just reminds me of the Genesis mess of attachments.

  • The Genesis had its own 8-bit attachment called the Power Base Converter which allowed you to play Sega Master System games on it. It only fit into the Genesis 1 and was officially made by Sega. I plan to do a full review on it once I get more Master System games.

  • Its too big and clunky, i prefer the original famicom converter that came in early game paks.

  • put all three games in at once see what happen

  • Which ever mode you select in the menu is which works, if you select 8 bit with famicom and nes carts in it will run the famicom cart.

  • One question: Does it support S-video on NES games? And, does it support the Famicom Disk System?

  • The answer to both of those questions is I simply dont know. I dont own s-video cables for snes or a famicom disk system. I would imagine the famicom disk system would have a chance of working since the system works with famicom games.

  • No.

  • WOW,what awesome hardware indeed how did u get that??cool i miss the US version of the SNES just looks far more cool than our european version that looks like the famicom!!!good vids man keep them up!!!!!:)

  • I had got it on ebay quite a while ago. The bottom is flat so it can work with usa snes, japanese and europe models. At the time I found out about it from a website and found one on ebay and the rest is history. I will be reviewing more strange hardware soon so keep an eye here.

  • Great vid and great look at the hardware. I agree with you, I like the second zelda game for the NES better then the NES original actually lol...

  • Kinda suprized that the live action stuff looks better then I thought it would. I guess since my digital camera captures in 320X240 and thats what youtube uses it blends well, plus sony vegas did an excellent job of encoding it.
