  • this is something else that skrillexes version!

  • Simply...there's nothing cooler then this Jam! : ) In addition...the piano solo is so intense, I barely stand it, every note hits like bricks, If I may mention his name ...Elvin Jones is Kung Fu with sticks, the bass holds it all! : )

  • Simply...there's nothing cooler then this Jam! : )

  • Outstanding! For me, this has to be one of the very best jazz tunes ever recorded. Coltrane and Tyner rule!

  • Sweet Offering

  • really nice song! i loved it from beginning to end!

  • good job!!1 Mariusz

  • One of my absoloute favourites........

  • ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR PAGE !!

  • ...wonderful...the BEST...the ultimate...

  • This is The Blues in sheep's clothing

  • The beginning of this song absolutely knocks!!! The piano, drums, and percussion. Don't give me a youtube beatdown for saying this, but someone should sample it.

  • I agree, chicago, about the beginning of this tune. Man, that is a sweet lick on the piano!

  • This is the stuff. I heard this for the first time crusing down highway 101 between San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara on a rainy night. Unbelievable, the man was a sheer genius.

  • is song perfec

  • You can feel the emotion when he plays every note that among many other reasons is why i love listening to Coltrane im only 18 but i appreciate the passion he puts into every note.

  • The first time I heard this, I was sitting alone by the window watching the raindrops fall on the window pane. Pure magic. Coltrane will be remembered as one of the greatest, even hundreds of years from now

  • This is one of his greatest in my opinion. I often wonder what his music would have sounded like in the 70's and beyond.

  • probably crazy as shit, he would have been leading the way for everyone

  • I just have this picture of him in the 70's at the Fillmore East with an electric saxophone wearing a dashiki, with 3 or 4 other guys playing african percussion along with his regular combo. I read in the book "Chasing the Trane" that in 1966 he was given a Varitone saxophone attachment by the Selmer company and he was pretty excited about the new sounds it made available. He never got the chance to take it further as he died in 67. But I think he may have gone electric ala Miles Davis.

  • This is one of my all-time favorites. Thanks, LamontCJ. By the way, can anyone find Hubert Laws performing this on flute? It's not the same as Coltrane, of course. . .It's on his Wild Flower album.

  • I cry everytime I hear this .. such depth and sadnes .. trane will forever

  • You're right- it's the sound of complete loneliness!

  • My favorite John Coltrane Song

  • Thanks for posting. JC RIP or reincarnate (please !)

  • Best saxophonist of all time!

  • Best Coltrane Song Ever

  • This is my favourite John Coltrane composition. Pure genius.

  • This is my favorite Coltrane song

  • THE KING.

    Hafeez

  • beatiful

  • Excelente a performance deste grande músico. Pena que as novas gerações em função de uma mídia alienada não conheçam nem apreciem músicos desta categoria.

  • can't describe the beauty of that in words

  • This man ....was a brilliant musician...his music lives on..Trane was born on the autumnal equinox ...

Happy Birthday to him...we lost him too young...but what a gift he left the world.....gorgeous music that brings people together.....thanks for posting!

  • well i wouldnt call his music "gorgeous" but other than that you're right.

  • People wonder why Coltrane has been raised to Sainthood by so many people..listen this enough and you start to feel overwhelmed by its power.

& Elvin Jones was the baddest drummer ever

  • Very, very well said, winpoint. I have to wonder in turn why people wonder; I think Coltrane is the most profound musician since Beethoven.

I'm an atheist, but if I ever come close to believing in god, it when I am listening to Coltrane.

Oh, and I couldn't agree more about Elvin Jones. I would add that McCoy Tyner is pretty fucking extraordinary as well; few pianists have such a rich colorful, and deeply poetic sound.

  • Not only is the whole entire track BADD!

But the intro is..man it's refreshing everytime.

    Riding Da `Trane

  • one of the most revered and reverent artists of the 20th century.

  • This is only an opinion but I think Paul Chambers was Coltrane's best bassist

  • He must have thought so too because Chambers was on so many of his cuts.

  • They had a long history of being together in their early years with Miles Davis. Then there was Jimmy Garrison, Reggie Workman, and Art Davis.

  • +1--i've gotta respect steve davis but few are as perfect as paul chambers, except maybe an NHOP or scott lafaro.

  • Every time I put this on my turntable, the song brings up such vivid thoughts. I could get lost and sit there for hours on end listening to Trane; especially Central Park West.

  • such a great song. -is a bass player-

  • hey lamont its steve davis on bass

  • Coltrane's best song

  • Tony Brown used to play this song on WDAS's (Philadelphia) Sunday Jazz Brunch back in 80's. Very powerful Song.

  • Philly in Da House! Though it was well known that Tony brown loved jazz, I don't remember him playing "Equinox" for any of his programming. That said, I would not be surprised. LOL

  • Hahaha. Ever go by the Coltrane house up on 33rd?

  • this track defines the the soul of train deeply jlove

  • The intro is mighty! Workman and Tyner frames this cut while Jones gives background and Trane' tells the story. Simply Marvelous!

  • this song should have more views i listen to this everyday

  • For me, it's the music. I have some killer speakers and the images really don't mean much to me. I could get involved with uploading movies and graphics, but that's too much work. I only care about the music and sharing with YouTubers of like mind. The images it conjurs up in my mind, isn't that what it's all about?

  • The images in the mind is definitely what its about, this is the perfect piece of music to just dim the lights, lay back and listen to.

  • markj; coltrane was and is still a great artist. i just turned 40 and have to play catch up with my jazz exposure!

  • You slice a vein in jazz and it will bleed Coltrane.I'm So damn mad I was born too late to see him play live. Coltrane AKA The G.O.A.T

  • youo are a retard

  • Coltrane DEFINES JAZZ. And Equinox is one of the finest examples.

  • Totally agree!

  • tá valendo pelo som.... alguém precisa garimpar uma apresentação!

  • It's so exciting haha... A wonderful music, songs like this one makes me think that jazz is only for people with a right sense about the music

  • As much as I agree with you , I have to temper that with the thought that everything is subjective and respect others who think different and not neccessarily wrong.

  • What's right? What it means to me, or to you? Or to Coltrane when he played it? Great art ain't exclusionary, babe; no way to tell if we really experience it the same anyway, as words can't really convey the experience from one side of the subjective chasm to the other. Just dig the sound and be gentle with each other...

  • i love this piece by coltrane one of my favorite!!

  • You better believe it! Coltrane's band was one of the best. He's had a few but these cats roared.
